Field Model Tests for Landfill Leachate Leakage Detection System using Grid-net Electrical Resistivity Measurement Method (격자형 전기비저항 측정기법을 이용한 매립지 침출수 누출감지시스템에 대한 현장 모형시험)

  • 격자망식 전선배치에 의한 전기비저항 측정기법을 이용한 침출수 누출감지시스템을 개발하여 그 적용성을 평가하기 위하여 현장모형시험을 수행하였다. 현장모형시험을 수행한 결과 침출수 누출지점에서 전기비저항이 크게 감소하여 누출지점을 정확하게 감지할 수 있었다. 격자망식 전선배치에 의한 전기회로적인 효과로 인하여 전기비저항이 감소된 지점과 동일 전선상에 연결된 다른 센서에서의 측정값도 다소 감소하는 경향을 나타내었다. 이를 보정하기 위하여 P-SPICE를 이용하여 전기회로 시뮬레이션을 수행하여 전기회로 효과를 정량적으로 평가하였다 P-SPICE 시뮬레이션의 결과를 토대로 보정계수를 도출하여 현장모형시험결과를 보정하였으며, 보정된 겉과에 의하면 전기회로적 특성에 의한 영향을 효과적으로 제거되어 누출지점에서의 전기비저항 감소가 명확하게 나타났다.

제주도 비위생매립지 주변 수리지질환경 파악을 위한 전기, 전자탐사 적용

  • 쓰레기매립장의 침출수 누출 탐지를 위한 물리탐사법은 침출수의 전기전도도를 대상으로 한 전기탐사법이 주로 적용되어 왔다. 이 연구는 제주도에 위치한 비위생매립지를 대상으로 주변 수리지질환경 파악을 위한 전기비저항 탐사와 더불어 매립장 경계부와 토양층을 통한 침출수 누출 영역을 효율적으로 규명하기 위하여 다중주파수를 이용한 소형루프 전자탐사를 병행하여 수행하였으며, 아울러 오염지역의 천부 지하수 유동 방향을 추정하기 위하여 침출수의 유동에 의해 발생될 수 있는 자연전위를 모니터링 하였다. 전기비저항 탐사 및 자연전위 모니터링 결과 매립지 주변을 통한 침출수의 누출 가능성은 거의 없는 것으로 나타났으며, 이는 주변 하천에서 정기적으로 실시한 수질 분석 결과와 일치된다. 또한 소형루프 전자탐사 자료에 대하여 공간 필터링 및 1차원 역산법을 적용한 결과 매립장 경계부의 위치 및 매립장 내부의 심도별 매립물에 의한 저비저항 이상대를 효과적으로 도출 할 수 있었다.

Investigation of Leachate Leakage in Waste Landfill by Tracer Test (추적자시험에 의한 폐기물매립장 침출수 누출조사)

  • Tracer tests were conducted to investigate leachate outflow through damaged parts on HDPE liner subject to puncture loads in a closed landfill. Natural gradient tracer test was used with two different types of tracers, iodide and Rhodamine WT. Tracers were selected under careful consideration of chemical components of leachate. Five injection wells with fourteen detection points were installed and operated throughout the test site. In this study, it is found that Iodide and Rhodamine WT are applicable and effective for leachate leakage investigation on waste landfills. Also, it is concluded that considerable amount of leachate was leaked through the rain water drain box and side wall of drain box.

  • Field model tests were performed to develop the grid-net landfill leachate leakage detection system using electrical resistance. Electric circuit tests were also carried out to investigate the expected electrical effects of grid-net electric circuit. The resistance of leaking point showed lower value than that of non leaking point. Grid-net leakage detection system was thought to be effective to locate the leachate leaking point. The measured electrical resistance along the wire including the leaking point was slightly reduced following the reduction of electrical resistance at the leaking point, which was explained by electric circuit test results.

  • The purposes of this study are to investigate the hydrogeochemical characteristics of groundwaters around Keumsan municipal landfill, and to evaluate the contaminant dispersion from the landfill and its environmental impact. To achieve these goals, groundwater quality logging, hydrochemical analysis, multivariate statistical analysis, and contaminant transport modeling were performed. The water quality logging indicated a leaking from the landfill at the depth of 4-12m around a leachate sump. Electrical conductivity data indicated that groundwaters within 70-100m from landfill were affected by the landfill leakage. Principal components 1 and 2 obtained from principal components analysis (PCA) reflect the influence of leachate and the characteristics of aquifer media, respectively. The results of principal component analysis also indicated the natural attenuation processes such as cation exchange, sorption, and microbial biodegradation. The modeling results showed that groundwater flow westward along a valley from the landfill and contaminants transport accordingly.

  • The concept that the electrical properties of subsurface material can be affected by the introduction of contaminants might be applicable fur developing the leakage detection system for petroleum hydrocarbons of underground storage tanks and leachate coming from landfill. Investigations were conducted with diesel, NaCl solution, and leachate by laboratory tests. Simulation test was performed leaking at a certain point in the field. The measured resistance was exponentially decreased as the water content of uncontaminated unsaturated sand was increased. The resistance of soil was increased by diesel but decreased by NaCl solution or leachate. The optimum electrode spacings were found for NaCl solution, leachate and diesel. Electrolytic solutions were better detected by wider spacing than non electrolytic solution.

  • Electrophoresis may offer a new technique to repair in service leaking geomembrane liner of municipal solid waste (MSW) impoundment. The method involves introducing a suspended clay particles, which are charged negatively, into the leakage in geomembrane liners by electrokinetic phenomena and formation of clay cake around leakage for prevention of leachate outflows. Therefore, the 3-dimensional leakage simulation experiments are conducted to evaluate the field applicability of sealing leaks of waste impoundment. In addition, the adequateness of optimum influence factors deduced from 1-dimensional experiments is evaluated. After the test, the total size (width, length) of clay cake formation around leak is increased with enlargement of leakage diameter and distance decrease detween anode and cathode.
