This study was carried out to investigate the characteristics of the organic liquid fertilizer and find out optimum fermentation conditions of Effective Microorganisms (EM) including ascidian tunic. During the EM fermentation by adding ascidian tunic, electrical conductivity (EC) was increased, contrast to decrease the pH value, on related to the initial dosage molasses rate. Additionally, the total nitrogen quantity was shown to be increased on EM fermentation and the most effective increasing was recorded up to 220% on more than 15% molasses dosage condition. The phosphorus quantity was to be maximum rate on 21th of EM fermentation, and other contents, such to potassium, calcium, magnesium, sodium, had be shown an increasing patten during the fermentation period. After the EM fermentation, the concentration of hazardous material (Zn, As, Cd, Cu, Cr, Hg, Ni, pb) was measured below than the official criteria for commercial fertilizer. As a effective material in fermentated fertilizer, the 29 kinds free amino acids were detected and their total concentration was measured to 7080.94 mg/L.

The effect of 1,3-dioxolane on the structural development in the optical polycarbonate film was studied. The 1,3-dioxolane was used as an environmental friendly solvent for manufacturing solution-cast polycarbonate film instead of methylene chloride. The evaporation rate in film drying process decreased due to the high boiling temperature of 1,3-dioxolane. This caused the crystallization in the polycarbonate film. As a result, The increase of crystallinity and roughness led to the decrease of light transmissivity. It was also found that the lowering of mechanical properties in polycarbonate film was attributed to the morphological change due to the solvent evaporation rate in film drying process.

The effect of methylene chloride/1,3-dioxolane co-solvent on the crystallization in the optical polycarbonate film was investigated. Increasing 1,3-dioxolane content in co-solvent resulted in the crystallization due to the lowering of solvent evaporation rate during film drying process. The crystallization in PC film could be minimized by either controlling of solvent composition and increasing solvent drying temperature. It was found that the surface roughness of solution casting PC film was affected by both crystallization and solvent evaporation rate. This morphological effect by alternative solvent is ascribed to a large decrease in light transmissivity on the optical PC film.

This study was conducted to know that if ionic liquids can be applicable as control agents of harmful algae in water-ecosystem and to find out problems caused by ionic liquid application. Firstly, the differential selectivity of various fresh-water algal species to several 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ionic liquids was investigated. There was a distinct differential response between alkyl chain lengths from butyl to dodecyl and towards the algal organisms : Generally algicidal activity was increased with increase of chain length and among the algae used in this study, Stephanodiscus hantzschii f. tenuis, Oscillatoria tenuis and Spirulina pratensis were most sensitive to 1-dodecyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride (MAIC12), next was Microcystis aeruginosa, and the others were relatively less sensitive to the chemical. The selectivity degree was about ten to twenty times based on the $EC_{80}$ (Effective concentration required for 80% growth inhibition). Secondly, an activity persistence of ionic liquids was investigated in natural mimic condition (using water bottle containing soil-sediments under the greenhouse condition). At the application of $1.0{\mu}g\;mL^{-1}$ of 1-octyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride (MAIC8), the algal growth did not occur at all until 6 days after treatment(DAT) and observed a only little growth at 9 DAT. But the algae grew rapidly after 9 DAT. So at 20 DAT, total chlorophylls was $264.4{\mu}g\;L^{-1}$ and the growth was inhibited by 58.2% compared to untreatment. On the other hand, MAIC12 also had a similar persistence pattern to MAIC8, showing nearly 5 times more activity than MAIC8. At 20 days after $0.2{\mu}g\;mL^{-1}$ application of MAIC12, that is, total chlorophylls was $251.2{\mu}g\;L^{-1}$ and the growth was inhibited by 55.2% compared to untreatment. In summary, 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ionic liquids is likely to be applicable for selective control of harmful algae as potent compounds having long lasting activity. However, the difficulty of degradation seems to be a limiting factor in an eco-friendly application of the compounds.
Community structures and fish densit were investigated on three different types of artificial reefs, dice, turtle artificial reef and tubes, constructed in the Korean waters. Variations of fish fauna according to type of artificial reef and the proper artificial reef in each area for optimizing harvest were discussed. Fish were captured by trammel gill net during May, June, September and November, 1988 and both identified and counted. Fourty-five fish species were found in the artificial reefs. Of these, Sebastes spp., Hexagrammos otakii, Pleuronectidae, Navodon modestus and Stephanolepis cirrhifer showed high occurrence-frequency. The dominant species groups were coastal settlement, demersal or rock fishes such as Pleuronectidae, Rajiformes, Stephanolepis cirrhifer, Navodon modestus, Hexagrammos otakii and Sebastes spp. in all of the Artificial reefs except the oceanic area of southern waters. Scomber japonicus was predominant in the oceanic area of southern waters. Composition of demersal, rock and pelagic fishes were different depending on the types of artificial reef. Dice artificial reefs were occupied by rock fish, on the other hand turtle artificial reefs were dominated by dermersal fish. Fish density was high at the dice artificial reef in all survey areas except the middle area of Eastern waters, with high fish density evident in the Tube artificial reef. Fish community structures were remarkably different between Dice and Turtle artificial reefs. The Tube artificial reef showed intermediate characteristics between the above two types of artificial reefs. The coastal areas of Southern waters and the middle and southern areas of Western waters revealed similar fish fauna. Results from the oceanic areas of Southern waters were well associated with the middle and southern areas of Eastern waters.

The interest in mini watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) with small fruits weighing 2-3 kg has increased by the increasing trend in one-person households and consequent tendency to consume small meals. Watermelon grafting onto cucurbit rootstocks is a very effective way to control soil-borne diseases, such as Fusarium wilt; however, this practice negatively impacts the fruit quality. This study was conducted to investigate the growth, fruit set, and fruit quality of mini watermelon grafted onto wild watermelon accessions (Citrullus spp.) resistant to Fusarium wilt. Five watermelon accessions (Galactica, IT 208441, PI 482322, PI 500303, and PI 593358) were evaluated as rootstocks for the mini watermelon "Ministar". Non-grafted "Ministar" and "Ministar" grafted onto "Shintozwa" (Cucurbita maxima D. C. moschata D.) or "Bullojangsaeng" (Lagenaria leucantha) were used as controls. The roots of the transplants grafted onto "PI 593358" and "Shintozwa" weighed more than those on other rootstocks. Additionally, the transplants on "PI 593358" showed better growth and fruit set in the field than the other transplants. However, the total soluble solid contents and fruit quality indices of the transplants on "PI 593358" and "Shintozwa" were lower, whereas the total fruit quality index of those on "PI 482322" was higher. Thus, the wild watermelon accessions tested can potentially be used as basic germplasm for developing watermelon rootstocks instead of cucurbit rootstocks. The most promising accession for this purpose was found to be "PI 482322".
Plants social network analysis, which combines plants society and social network analyses, is a new research method for understanding plants society. This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between species, using plant social network analysis targeting Taejongdae in Busan, and build basic data for management. Taejongdae, located in the warm temperate forest in Korea, is a representative coastal forest of Busan Metropolitan City, and the Pinus thunbergii-Eurya japonicacommunity is widely distributed. This study set up 100 quadrats (size of 100m2each) in Taejongdae to investigate the species that emerged and analyzed the interspecies association focusing on major species. Based on the results, a sociogram was created using the Gephi 0.9.2, and the network centrality and structure were analyzed. The results showed that the frequency of appearance was high in the order of P. thunbergii, E. japonica, Quercus serrata, Sorbus alnifolia, Ligustrum japonicum, and Styrax japonicusand that many evergreen broad-leaved trees appeared due to the environmental characteristics of the site. The plants social network of Taejongdae was composed of a small-scale network with 50 nodes and 172 links and was divided into 4 groups through modularization. The succession sere identified through a sociogram confirmed that the group that include P. thunbergiiand E. japonicawould progress to a deciduous broadleaf community dominated by Q. serrataand Carpinus tschonoskii, using hub nodes such as Prunus serrulataf. spontaneaand Toxicodendron trichocarpum. Another succession sere was highly likely to progress to an evergreen broad-leaved community dominated by Machilus thunbergiiand Neolitsea sericea, using M. thunbergiias a medium. In some areas, a transition to a deciduous broad-leaved community dominated by Celtis sinensis, Q. variabilisand Zelkova serratausing Lindera obtusilobaand C. sinensisas hub nodes was expected.
Selenium species (inorganic selenium, selenoaminoacids, and selenoproteins) were analyzed using anion exchange and affinity chromatography, which were connected to ICP/MS for the blood serum of sows fed by seleniumfortified feed. The Anion Exchange PRP X-100 column was used for the analysis of inorganic selenium (Se4+ and Se6+) and selenoaminoacids. The HEP column was used to separate SelP from GPx+SeAlb in selenoproteins. A quantitative analysis was performed using the post-column isotope dilution technique. The lactating sows were divided into three groups and fed by selenium fortified feed (organic 0.3 mg/kg, 0.6 mg/kg and inorganic 0.6 mg/kg) for four weeks. The test groups showed increases in selenoaminoacids compared with the control group, except the inorganic feed group. There was no significant difference between the organic feed groups. All test groups showed increases in selenoproteins. In particular, SelP showed a large increase that was 1.5 times higher than the other proteins.
