This study analyzed the mediating effects of self-esteem and peer relationship in the effects between physical satisfaction and academic adaptation of multicultural youth. The subjects of the study were 1,064 first-year high school students at the time of the survey using the 8th Multicultural Youth Panel (MAPS) data. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, correlations, and path analysis of measurement variables were carried out using SPSS 25.0. According to the analysis, first, multicultural youth's body satisfaction has a positive effect on academic adaptation, and second, self-esteem is completely mediated in the relationship between body satisfaction and academic adaptation. Third, the relationship between multicultural youth's body satisfaction and academic adaptation has been partially mediated. The results will be used to develop basic data and programs to support healthy growth of multicultural youth. These results can be used to develop basic data and programs to devise support measures for healthy growth of multicultural youth.

This study identified the relationship between adolescents' academic helplessness and smartphone dependence and verified the parallel mediating effect of self-esteem and friendships. To this end, the fourth data of the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey 2018 (KCYPS) conducted by the Korea Youth Policy Institute were used, and 2,244 were used for analysis after removing 346 adolescents who responded to the survey. For data analysis, the statistical package programs SPSS WIN 25.0 and Hayes (2013)'s PROCESS Macro V 3.5 were used, and the following results were derived. First, adolescents' academic helplessness had a positive (+)(+) effect on their dependence on smartphones. Second, self-esteem was found to mediate the relationship between adolescents' academic helplessness and smartphone dependence. Third, it was found that friend relationships mediate the relationship between adolescents' academic helplessness and smartphone dependence. Based on these results, practical and policy suggestions to reduce adolescents' dependence on smartphones and follow-up studies to overcome the limitations of research were proposed.

This study aims to examine and analyze the operations and activities of Friends of Libraries groups in foreign countries. Friends of Libraries are groups of people who are voluntarily associated in order to assist libraries in their work. They have been involved with various libraries in many countries for almost a century. They support libraries by raising funds, working as volunteers, performing P.R. activities, operating political campaigns and being involved in the community. Nowadays. Friends groups are considered more important than at any time in their history because they provide such diverse support. Thus, new groups are being established in many countries. This study suggests that the establishment of Friends groups could improve library operations and services in Korea.

This study explored how peers influence on adolescents' game over-indulgence. More specifically, it was examined the effects of emotional support, subjective norm of game use, peer stress, and friends' attitude toward gaming on game over-indulgence. Results showed that the higher level of subjective norm of game use and peer stress one received the higher level of game over-indulgence one reported. However, lower emotional support caused higher game over-indulgence. Meanwhile, friends' attitude toward gaming was not significantly related to game over-indulgence. The meaning and the importance of peer in terms of game over-indulgence and limitations of the study were discussed.

The aim of this study was to examine middle school students' career attitude maturity with five career elements(career decisiveness, goal orientation, confidence, preparation, and independence) related to relational(parent, teacher, friend) and school adjustment (school life, instruction, environment) variables. To accomplish this, 467 collected data was passed through correlation, and simple and multiple regression analysis using SPSS win 12. The main finding was that friend's support was highly correlated to and significantly affected career preparation and independence of the students. School life and instruction were also highly correlated to their career preparation. Parents' and teachers' support affected their career decisiveness. Their school life was an important factor to influence career decisiveness, preparation, and independence of the students. Generally, friends' support and school life of the students were the most important factors that affected the students' career preparation and independence. From the findings, this study suggests that middle schools need to provide more vocational education, diverse after-school activities, and teacher training to support middle school students' career attitude maturity.

The purpose of this study was to shed light on a role of hope in understanding the relationship between the search for meaning in life and academic satisfaction and to suggest ways to increase hope among Korean students. We hypothesized that the relationship between search for meaning in life and academic satisfaction would be mediated by hope and the positive relationship between search for meaning and hope would be strengthened by family support and friend support. We conducted two surveys to examine the hypotheses. Based on Study 1 using a sample of 190 undergraduate students, we found that the relationship between search for meaning in life and academic satisfaction was fully mediated by hope. In Study 2, we examined the four types of hope that include internal hope and three types of external hope (i.e., family, friends, and supernatural being) to extend knowledge on what features of hope mediate the relationships between search for meaning and academic satisfaction. Study 2 based on a sample of 313 high school students showed that the link from the search for meaning in life and academic satisfaction was fully mediated by internal hope and external-peers hope. The mediating effects of external-family hope and external-spiritual hope were not significant in Study 2. Also, we found that family support strengthened the positive links from the search for meaning in life to hope (Study 1) and to internal hope (Study 2) while the interactive effects of friend support and the search for meaning on hope were not significant in both studies. Based on the results, we discussed several implications, limitations, and recommendations for future research.

Purpose: This is a descriptive survey study for identifying the factors affecting the communication skills of nursing students in the current situation where non-face-to-face culture becomes commonplace due to the COVID-19. Methods: The data was collected from June 1-30, 2022, targeting total 160 nursing students(3rd/4th year) of three universities in Daejeon and Chungnam. Using the IBM SPSS/Win 25.0, the collected data was analyzed through the descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression analysis. Results: In the results, the communication skills showed positive correlations with the acceptance of others (r=.32, p<.001), positive emotions in friendship (r=.44, p<.001), and empathy (r=.38, p<.001), and these variables explained total 32.0% of communication skills. Conclusion: Based on such results, it would be necessary to develop various extracurricular programs and also to establish the application measures for maintaining positive friendships and enhancing empathy.

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of self-esteem, relationships with parents and peer relationships on adolescents' school adjustment. Total of 900 middle school students residing in Guri, Geonggi-Do participated in the survey and the data collected from 874 students (557 male and 317 female students) were analyzed for this study. The followings summarize results of the study. First, the findings suggested that there is no significant difference between female and male students in school adjustment. Secondly, the study revealed that there is no difference between female and male students in self-esteem and relationship with parents. Thirdly, this study provided clear evidence that students with high self-esteem and close relationship with parents and schoolmates adapt to school life better than those with low self-esteem and distant relationship with parents and schoolmates. Fourthly, students with high self-esteem and close relationship with parents and schoolmates displayed higher adaptability to school life, and as for male students, close relationship with schoolmates was the most prominent factor which helps them adapt to school life better while female students' adaptability to school lifewas mainly affected by relationship with parents.

The proliferation of online social networking services (OSNSs) and smartphones has enabled people to easily make friends with a large number of users in the online communities, and interact with each other. This leads to an increase in the usage rate of OSNSs. However, individuals who have immersed into their digital lives, prioritizing the virtual world against the real one, become more and more isolated in the physical world. Thus, their socialization processes that are undertaken only through lots of face-to-face interactions and trial-and-errors are apt to be neglected via 'Add Friend' kind of functions in OSNSs. In this paper, we present a friend recommendation system based on the on/off-line contextual information for the OSNS users to have more serendipitous offline interactions. In order to accomplish this, we modeled both offline information (i.e., place visit history) collected from a user's smartphone on a 3D tensor, and online social data (i.e., friend relationships) from Facebook on a matrix. We then recommended like-minded people and encouraged their offline interactions. We evaluated the users' satisfaction based on a real-world dataset collected from 43 users (12 on-campus users and 31 users randomly selected from Facebook friends of on-campus users).
