  • Photoreactions of pseudosaccharin pyridinemethyl ethers have been investigated. Pseudosaccharin 2-pyridinemethyl ether, pseudosaccharin 4-pyridinemethyl ether and pseudosaccharin 3-pyridinemethyl ether all undergo a facile photoreaction via reaction pathways involving homolysis of the bond between pseudosaccharyl oxygen and pyridinemethyl carbon, and excited nucleophilic substitution of pyridinemethoxy group by solvent, methanol which are not quenched by oxygen present in the reaction. Product yield demonstrates that the homolysis pathway predominates over the nucleophilic substitution.

  • Kinetics for the reaction of para-substituted benzyl bromides with 3-picoline have been studied with the changes of substituent, pressure and temperature. The activation parameters and the Hammett ρ-values were determined from the values of rate constants. The results of these studies showed that the positive charge developed in the reaction center and bond cleavage was greater than bond formation. The reaction rate and the ability of charge transfer were increased with elevating pressure. The effect of pressure for the charge transfer was more enhanced at low temperatures.

  • Conventional binary adder requires a carry propagation to the most significant bit, and leads to serial addition. However, optical adder using a modified signed digit(MSD) number system has been Proposed to reduce the carry propagation chain encountered in binary adder. In this paper, in order to minimize the number of symbolic substitution(SS) rules, nine input patterns were divided into five groups of the same addition results. For recognizing the input reference patterns, serial connections of joint spatial encoded patterns and masks without any other spatial operations are used.

  • 생체재료로 사용되는 polyurethane(PU) 표면에 항혈전성 lumbrokinase(LK)를 고정함으로써 생체적합성을 향상시키고자하였다. 먼저 LK를 PU 표면에 고정하기 위한 가교제로서 4-azidoaniline hydrochloride와 poly(acrylic acid)를 이용하여 4-azidophenyl 작용기가 amido 결합으로 치환된 수용성, 광반응성 poly(acrylic acid)(PPa-II)를 합성하였다. H-nuclear magnetic reasonance spectrum(500MHz H-NMR)의 6-7 peak와 infrared spectrum (FT-IR) 의 2125.48 cm peak으로부터 PPA-II의 합성을 지원하였다. EH한 4-azidophenyl 작용기가 poly(acrylid acid) 잔기에 치환된 정도는 UV/VIS adpectrophotometric spectrum을 확인한 결과 11~14%임을 알 수있었다. 0.5 1및 5% PPA-II를 각각 광반응하여 얻은 PU는 39.5, 161.8 및 181.5 nmole/$\textrm{cm}^2$의 농도로 표면에 carvoxyl 작용기가 유도되었음을 알 수있었다. 0.05M KH2PO4 (pH 4.5) 용액에서 1-ethyl-3-(3-(dimethylamino)propyl)carbodiimide(EDC)를 촉매로 사용하여 LK를 PU표면에 amido 공유결합으로 고정하였으며, 이것은 지속적인 fibrinolytic 활성도를 보였다. PPA-II를 이용한 표면 개질 방법은 수용성 반응조건에서 이루어진다는 점과 광반응을 이용함으로써 특정부위에서의 표면개질이 가능하다는 점에서 그 응용가치가 크며 아울러 PU의 생체적합성을 향상시킬 수 있는 방법으로서 판단된다.

  • Ti-Cu-N and Ti-Ag-N nanocomposite films with various copper and silver contents were synthesized by arc ion plating and magnetron sputtering hybrid system. The structure and mechanical properties of these films were found to be dependant on the copper and silver concentration. The maximum hardness of Ti-Cu-N and Ti-Ag-N films showed approximately 40 ㎬ below 2 at%Me. The role of soft metallic phase in Ti-Me-N nanosturctured films containing one hard and one soft phase is also discussed.

  • Kinetic studies have been carried out on solvolyses and halide exchanges $(Cl^-,\;Br^-,\;I^-)$ of N,N-dimethyl-, N,N-diethylcarbamoyl chlorides, and solvolyses of N,N-diphenylcarbamoyl chloride. Kinetic results together with simple MO analysis indicated that: (a) N,N-dialkylcarbamoyl chlorides reacted via the $S_N2$ mechanism, while N,N-diphenylcarbamoylchloride reacted via the $S_N1$ mechanism; (b) in chloride exchanges, the bond-breaking appeared to be important, whereas in bromide and iodide exchanges, the bond-formation was shown to be important.

  • The selective cleavage of phenylsilane by triflic acid gives silyltriflates. The removal of phenyl groups in $Ph_3SiH$ and carbosilane polymer $(Ph_2SiCH_2CH_2CH_2)n$ with one to two equiv of triflic acid leads to formation of mono- and disubstituted silyltriflate ester bonds. Reaction with allylmagnesium bromide produces corresponding derivatives with good yields. An organosilane dendrimer with allylated carbosilane polymer has been synthesized up to G3 using repetitive allylation hydrosilylation cycles.

  • A Series of meta and para-substituted phenyl N-methylcarbamate derivatives were synthesized and influence of substituents(X) on the molecular orbital(MO) quantities of carbonyl group, carbamylation reaction center, and insecticidal activities($pI_50$) were discussed quantitatively. From these findings, the most stable streo conformer(Z) shows that the planer phenyl group occupies vertical(${\theta}=90^{\circ}$) position on the plane of the N-methylcarbamyl group. The carbamylation mechanism was proposed that the carbamylation process of acetylcholinesterase(ACh.E) by m-methyl substituted phenyl N-methylcarbamate derivatives proceeds via hyperconjugation of m-methyl group and carbonyl oxygene protonation, theromodynamically control reaction with acidic site of ACh.E.

  • The present study prepared lightweight foam-soil concrete mixtures classified into three groups. Considering the sustainablility, workability, and compressive strength development of such concrete, high-volume supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) were used as follows: 20% cement, 15% fly ash, and 65% ground granulated blast-furnace slag. As main test parameters selected for achieving the compressive strength of 1MPa and dry density of $1,000kg/m^3$, the unit solid content (dredged soil and binder) ranged between 900 and $1,807kg/m^3$, and soil-to-binder ratio varied between 3.0 and 7.0. Test results revealed that the flow of the lightweight foam-soil concrete tended to decrease with the increase of unit soil content. The compressive strength of such concrete increased with the increase with the unit binder content, whereas it decreased as soil-to-binder ratio increased, indicating that the compressive strength can be formulated as a function of its dry density and soil-to-binder ratio.

Comparison of the Mid-term Changes at the Remnant Distal Aorta after Aortic Arch Replacement or Ascending Aortic Replacement for Treating Type A Aortic Dissection (A형 급성대동맥박리증에서 대동맥궁치환술과 상행대동맥치환술 후 잔존 원위부 대동맥의 변화에 대한 중기 관찰 비교)

  • Background: Replacing the ascending aorta is a standard surgical option for treating acute type A aortic dissection. But replacing the aortic arch has recently been reported as an acceptable procedure for this disease. We compared the effects of aortic arch replacement for treating acute type A aortic dissection with the effects of ascending aortic replacement. Material and Method: From 2002 to 2006, 25 patients undewent surgical treatment for acute type A aortic dissection, 12 patients undewent ascending aortic replacement and 13 patients underwent aortic arch replacement. Among the aortic arch group, an additional distal stent-graft was inserted during the operation in 5 patients. 19 patients (11 arch replaced patients and 8 ascending aortic replaced patients) were followed up at the out patient clinic for an average of $756{\pm}373$ days. All the patients undewent CT scanning and we analyzed their distal aortic segments. Result: 4 patients who underwent ascending aortic replacement died, so the overall mortality rate was 16%. Among the 11 long term followed-up arch replacement patients, 2 patients (18.1 %) developed distal aortic dilatation and one of them underwent thoracoabdominal aortic replacement later on. However, among the 8 the ascending aortic replaced patients, 5 patients (62.5%) developed distal aortic dilatation. Conclusion: Aortic arch replacement is one of the safe options for treating acute type A aortic dissection. Aortic arch replacement for treating acute type A aortic dissection could contribute to a reduced distal aortic dilatation rate and fewer secondary aortic procedures.
