당뇨병에 걸리면 치주질환에 걸릴 위험이 크고, 일반인보다 낫기가 어렵다. 치주질환은 비용과 치료의 두려움으로 병원에 가길 꺼려한다. 그러나 방치하면 잇몸 뼈가 상하게 되고 치아가 빠져 수술로 이어지게 된다. 그러므로 당뇨병환자라면 치과에 정기적으로 내원하여 잇몸병은 조기에 발견하고 치료하는 것이 중요하다.

The ultimate goal of periodontal therapy is the regeneration of supporting tissues. It is recommended to avoid probing until 6~9 months following the regenerative therapy because the probing may jeopardize the newly formed tissues. We can measure tooth mobility objectively using Periotest. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether Periotest can be used to evaluate the treatment results alternatively, and whether there are the correlations between the changes of Periotest value (PTV) and other clinical parameters. Regenerative treatments have been performed on 29 teeth of twenty five patients, at Department of Periodontology, Pusan National University Hospital. We measured the tooth mobility by Periotest and other parameters at the baseline, 6 and 12 months after regenerative treatment. Compared to the baseline, there were the statistically significant improvements in all the parameters at 6 months and 12 months. There were statistically significant correlations among the probing depth, attachment level, gingival recession and PTV at baseline, 6 months, and 12 months. Also there was the correlation between changes in PTV and in the attachment level at each time of observation period. We may conclude that regenerative therapy would improve the clinical parameters and periodontal status and PTV would be an alternative index to evaluate the healing process after regenerative surgery.

The present studies were performed to investigate the interaction of $17{\beta}$-estradiol and human growth hormone(hGH) on the proliferation of human periodontal ligament(WDL) cell. The independent effects of $17{\beta}$ estradiol and hGH on hPDL cell proliferation were investigated and the effects of hGH on hPDL cell proliferation after $17{\beta}$-estradiol pre-treatment were also investigated. Lastly, the change of hGH receptor expression in hPDL cell after $17{\beta}$-estradiol pre-treatment were investigated. The obtained results were as follows; 1. The treatment of $17{\beta}$-estradiol or hGH had no significant effects on hPDL cell proliferation. 2. After pre-treatment of $17{\beta}$-estradiol, hGH stimulated the proliferation of the hPDL cell, regardless of hHG concentration. 3. Although there was not hGH receptor in the hPDL cell, hGH receptors were expressed in hPDL cell after more than 6 hours pre-treatment of $17{\beta}$-estradiol. 4. The effect of hGH on hPDL cell proliferation was related to the hGH receptor expression. $17{\beta}$-estradiol pre-treaaent contributed to the hGH effects on the hPDL cell by stimulating hGHR expression.

1940년대부터 1970년대까지 치주치료의 목적은 복잡핞 치주외과적 수술을 통하여 치주낭을 제거 또는 감소시키는 것이었다. 그러나 1960년대와 1970년대에 이루어진 연구 결과를 보면 치주질환의 병인발생에 있어서 치태의 역할과 적절한 구강위생의 중요성이 강조되었다. 즉 치태를 제거하기 위해서 치솔과 치약, 그리고 보조기구를 이용한 구강위생방법(기계적인 처치)과 전신적 및 국소적 항생제투여, 그리고 양치용액의 사용(화학적인 처치)과 같은 비외과적 처치방법이 관심의 대상이 되었다. 여기에서는 치태를 효과적으로 관리하기 위한 기계적인 치료방법과 화학적인 치료방법에 대해 살펴보고자 한다.
