  • The treatment of obesity have been developed various devices for the treatment of obesity, the ultrasound is to be made after the state changes to become easy fat decomposition by heat and vibrations to facilitate the flow of blood and lymph fatty acid released into the blood. There is such ultrasonic transducer array is used in obesity therapy focusing angle of the transducer array and the frequency may have a significant impact on the degradation of fat. In this paper, we set the frequency that reaches the shortest time to a set temperature 27kHz, 1MHz, by applying a transducer with a diameter of 5mm, 10mm, 16mm for the frequency of 3MHz, obtain the wavelength and near the stomach in order to set the frequency of the transducer array, which was set to the focusing angle of the transducer with three contact surfaces. As a result, the time to reach the set temperature was short days when 3MHz frequency, the focusing angle is titrated is $40^{\circ}$.

  • Ultrasound brain stimulation is spot-lighted by its capability of inducing brain cell activation in a localized deep brain region and ultimately treating impaired brain function while the efficiency and directivity of neural modulation are highly dependent on types of stimulus waveforms. Therefore, to optimize the types of stimulation parameters, we propose a cell-cultivable ultrasonic transducer having a series stack of a spin-coated polymer piezoelectric element (Poly-vinylidene fluoride-trifluorethylene, PVDF-TrFE) and a parylene insulating layer enhancing output acoustic pressure on a glass-coverslip which is commonly used in culturing cells. Due to the uniformity and high accuracy of stimulus waveform, tens of neuronal cell responses located on the transducer surface can be recorded simultaneously with fluorescence microscopy. By averaging the cell response traces from tens of cells, small changes to the low intensity ultrasound stimulations can be identified. In addition, the reduction of stimulus distortions made by standing wave generated from reflections between the transducers and other strong reflectors can be achieved by placing acoustic absorbers. Through the proposed ultrasound transducer, we could successfully observe the calcium responses induced by low-intensity ultrasound stimulation of 6 MHz, 0.2 MPa in astrocytes cultured on the transducer surface.

  • Colorectal cancer produce focal mass or segmental thickening which can be detected with sonography. The purpose of this study was to describe sonographic findings of colorectal cancer. we reviewed sonograms of 51 patients with colorectal cancer in whom sonography was performed before colon study. In 51 patients who had more common coloretal cancer 27cases(53%) had 40 to 50 years of age(60%). Sonographic findings included segmental thickening 42cases, or irregular mass 9 cases. With careful examination, these findings can be detectable, and therefore bowel should be carefully examination in patients with sign and symptoms suggesting carcinoma of the colon and rectum.

  • Spinoglenoid cyst have been reported in small series in the orthopaedic literature in association with SLAP lesion, which is one of less common causes of shoulder pain. Authors experienced one case of spinoglenoid cyst with SLAP lesion initially missed with ultrasonographic examination and physical examination. This case was confirmed by MRI, EMG and arthroscopic surgery was done. When clinicians cannot find a definite cause of shoulder pain and decreased power of rotator cuff tendon with ultrasonographic examination, they need further study such as MRI and EMG with careful physical examination. Clinicians need to aware of the limitation of ultrasonography for spinoglenoid cyst especially, (1) cyst size is small, (2) location of cyst is too deep to detect and along the scapula spine from SLAP lesion.

  • Tissue stimulation technique using ultrasound has been continuously studied and developed. Recently, as a increment of interests for obesity treatment and cosmetic care, a various studies on ultrasonic fat emulsification has been conducted. In this study, the fat emulsification adapted ultrasonic transducer was designed. And using designed transducer, the simulation for the shape of focal area and thermal degradation region was conducted. The dimensions were verified by the simulation results. And the effectiveness was confirmed by evaluating measured radiation characteristic and heating characteristic. In addition, we estimated the ultrasonic heating characteristics in composite structure medium. The shape of focal point and heating characteristic of the proposed transducer were determined to be sufficient to emulsify the fat. The results of this study are considered to be used as basic research in more efficient and safe ultrasonic fat removal.

  • Objective: To reduce urinary side effects in prostate cancer patients receiving radiation, patients were asked to drink certain amount of water to maintain bladder volume constant and the bladder volumes were measured weekly using ultrasound scanner. Materials and Methods: Twenty-six patients with prostate cancer who received radiation between December 2002 and August 2007 were enrolled in this study. Thirteen patients were enrolled in experimental group. These patients were asked to drink 450 cc of water, one hour prior to simulation, CT scan, and treatment. The other thirteen patients were given no information about bladder filing. Bladder, prostate, and rectum were contoured on CT and volumes were calculated. 3D conformal treatment planning was performed and effective volumes of bladder were calculated when a prescription dose of 70.2 Gy was delivered. For the patients in experimental group, bladder volumes were measured weekly using ultrasound scanner for 6-8 weeks and the bladder volume variations were analyzed. Results: Average bladder volumes and standard deviations obtained at CT scanning were $283.5{\pm}114.0\;cc$ (40%) and $181.2{\pm}120.1\;cc$ (66%) in experimental and control groups, respectively. Although it was not statistically significant, there was correlation between the bladder volumes measured from CT and ultrasound. The volumes measured using ultrasound scanner were 62% lower than the volumes using CT images on average. There was significant variations in volumes measured weekly for 6-8 weeks. It ranged between 33 - 75 %. Conclusion: Our results showed that it is possible to obtain larger bladder volume if they are asked to drink certain amount of water prior to CT scan. However, patients were unable to maintain constant bladder volumes over the 6-8 weeks of treatment period although they were asked to drink constant amount of water.

  • Blood-Brain Barrier (BBB) is the brain protecting system blocking the inflow of harmful substances into brain parenchyma from brain blood vessel. However, the BBB has a negative effect on the treatment of various brain diseases such as Alzheimer's dementia or brain tumors because it also prevents drug delivery into brain parenchyma. To overcome this problem, a brain drug delivery technique using Focused Ultrasound (FUS) which allows BBB to be temporarily opened by inducing the acoustic cavitation effect of microbubbles has been developed. Thus far, various studies using the FUS technique has been conducted to improve drug delivery efficiency, and therefore, this paper discusses recently developed drug delivery technologies using the FUS-induced BBB opening.

  • In patients with thyroid nodules, ultrasonography (US) has been established as a primary diagnostic imaging method and is essential for treatment decision. The Korean Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System (K-TIRADS) is a pattern-based, US malignancy risk stratification system that can easily diagnose nodules during real-time ultrasound examinations. The 2021 K-TIRADS clarified the US criteria for nodule classification and revised the size thresholds for nodule biopsy, thereby reducing unnecessary biopsies for benign nodules while maintaining the appropriate sensitivity to detect malignant tumors in patients without feature of high risk thyroid cancer. Thyroid radiology practice has an important clinical role in the diagnosis and non-surgical treatment of patients with thyroid nodules, and should be performed according to standard practice guidelines for proper and effective clinical care.
