The relationship between hand washing practice and health belief model of hand washing among dental practitioners (치과종사자의 손씻기에 대한 건강신념과 손씻기 수행도의 관련성)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the correlation between hand washing practice and hand washing on the health belief model among dental practitioners. A self-reported questionnaire was completed by each 140 dental practitioners in dental clinics, general and university dental hospitals. The data were analyzed statistically with t-test, 1-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient test(${\alpha}=.05$). The hand washing practice showed a quantitative linear relationship(p<0.01) of r=0.285 with the hand washing on health belief. In order to prevent hospital infection of dental practitioners working in dental clinics or general and university dental hospitals, health beliefs about hand washing consisting of perceived susceptibility, perceived seriousness, perceived benefit, perceived barriers, and cues to action in infection control education should be considered.

  • This survey was conducted between January 15, 2014 and February 25, 2014 to investigate the practice for infection prevention among dental hygienists. Data were obtained from 294 dental clinic worker who worked in dental hospital (clinics) of Gwangju and Chonnam. At the conclusion of this investigation, according to the conclusion of this investigation, the necessity of infection control education for dental hygienists and washing their gowns after caring infected patients affected the practice for infection prevention. They also well practiced the infection prevention working in dental hospital. To prevent infection in dental clinic, it is necessary to provide the continuing education programs for dental infection control to dental clinic worker.

A Study on Indoor Subjective Symptoms of Workers at Dental Hospitals (치과병원 종사자들의 실내자각증상에 관한 요인분석)

  • 본 연구는 치과진료실의 실내 공기질에 영향을 미치는 요인과 종사자의 실내자각증상과 관련성을 조사하여 치과위생사 개인의 발전과 건강 증진에 필요한 기초자료를 마련하고자 본 연구를 시행하였다. 전국(서울, 경기, 대구, 포항)의 종합병원, 치과병원, 치과의원의 치과위생사 210명을 대상으로 2011년 10월 1일부터 20일까지 자기기입식 설문지 조사를 시행한 후 회수하여 응답이 불분명한 5명을 제외한 205명에 대해서 분석 하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS WIN 15.0 프로그램을 이용하여 분석하였다. 그 결과 근무 중 휴식시간 유무별로는 근무 중 휴식시간이 없는 치과위생사가 67.3%로 높은 분포를 보였고, 건물 밖 외출 여부별로는 때때로가 54.6%로 절반 이상을 차지하였으며, 건물 밖 외출횟수별로는 1회 86.1%로 대부분을 차지하였으며, 근무기관의 계절별 자연환기 정도별로는 봄, 여름, 가을, 겨울 모두 1일 2회 이내가 절반 이상을 차지하였으며, 다음으로 1일 4회 이내 19.0%, 기타 9.8%, 1일 10회 이내와 하루 종일 2.4% 순이었다. 실내자각증상 호소율에 대해 살펴본 결과는 4점 만점 중 전체 평균이 2.45로 나타났다. 먼저 영역별로는 평균이 '목증상'과 '눈증상'이 각각 2.54로 가장 높았으며, 문항 중에는 평균이 '눈이 잘 피로해진다'가 3.00으로 가장 높게 나타났다. 근무환경 특성에 따른 실내자각증상은 야간진료 여부별로는 야간진료를 하는 치과위생사가 그렇지 않은 치과위생사보다 실내자각증상이 낮았으며, 야간진료 여부에 따라 유의한 차이를 보였다(t=2.07, p<.05). 실내자각증상과 직무스트레스의 관계는 물리환경(r=.259, p<.001)과 직무요구(r=.311, p<.001), 관계갈등(r=.172, p<.05), 조직체계(r=.158, p<.05), 보상 부적절(r=.197, p<.01), 그리고 직무스트레스(r=.275, p<.001)와 통계적으로 유의한 상관관계를 보였다.

Behaviors-Based Safety Management of Dental Professionals on Dental Amalgam and Resin (치과용 아말감과 레진에 대한 치과종사자의 안전성에 대한 관리행동 실태)

  • This study investigated the safety management behavior of dental professionals to minimize exposure to harmful elements of amalgam and resin. As for the use of amalgam and resin, 85.8% of them used amalgam. 100% of used composite resin 100%. 97.8% used acryl resin, and 95.7% used tray resin. 95.2% and 36.5% of them were aware of the harm of amalgam and resin respectively. When using resin, their safety management behavior score was 1.99 on average, and the lowest score was 2.50 on average for 'ventilate the indoor air when handling resin'. Their average score of the safety management behavior was 1.83 when using amalgam. The lowest score was 2.89 on average for 'use the rubber dam for patients when handling amalgam'. As a result of the safety management behavior based on general characteristics, all characteristics were significant with regard to amalgam, and my position at work and work experience were significant with regard to resin (p<0.05). The correlation between the safety management behavior and general characteristics was analyzed when dental amalgam and resin are used. Amalgam was statistically correlated with academic background (p<0.05) and position at work (p<0.05), whereas resin was statistically significantly correlated with age (p<0.05) and position at work (p<0.05). Accordingly, education about the harm of dental materials must be continuously provided for dental professionals when they handle dental materials so that safety management behavior will be conducted correctly, and active efforts to protect the health of dental professionals from harmful chemicals must be made.

  • 치과임상에 있어서 약제, 재료, 기구 및 기타 부대시설과 치료실 환경은 오랫동안에 걸쳐 현금에 와서 놀라운 발전을 이룩하였음에도 치과의사가 시술중 받게되는 위해의 가능서은 아직도 여러곳에 상존하고 있는 실정이다. 의사가 늘 갖고 또 자신이 느껴야 되는 책임감에서 오는 긴장, 기계에서 오는 소음이 미치는 신체적영향 특히 청력과 관계되는 점 및 각종약제의 부작용 및 중독증, 그리고 치료중 예기치 않게 발생될 수 있는 환자로 부터오는 각종 감염, 도한 치과의사의 특수한 치료자세로부터 생기는 습관적인 정형외과적 문제와 정신적 육체적으로 겪게되는 격무로부터 오는 전신피로등의 문제를 어쩔수 없이 또는 치과의사 자신의 부주의로 당하고 있는 실례가 많다. 저자는 이 점에 대하여 위해가 생기는 문제를 항목별로 기술하면서 문헌적 고찰과 말레이시아의 치과의사 164명으로부터 설문을 통하여 수집한 사실의 통계를 분류하여 정리하고 그 예방 및 개선의 방법을 제시하면서 이는 치과의사뿐 아니라 종사자 전원이 숙지하여야 할 사실로 강조하였으며 가장 이상적인 치료실내의 치과의사용 의자를 고안하고 그 구조에 대하여 설명 하였다.

A Study on the Management of Exposure of Workers and Assistants Related to Diagnostic Radiation (진단용 방사선 관련 업무 종사자의 피폭관리에 관한 연구)

  • In medical institutions, there are radiation-related workers such as radiological technologists, physicians, dentists, and dental hygienists who handle diagnostic radiation generators. Also, there are work assistants, such as nurses and assistant nurses, who assist in radiation treatment or transfer patients to the radiation examination room. Radiation exposure management for radiation-related workers is carried out under the 「Medical Service Act」, but there is no legal basis for work assistants, etc. And the management of radiation exposure for diagnosis is regulated by the 「Medical Service Act」, and the management of radiation exposure by therapeutic radiation and nuclear medical examination is governed by the 「Nuclear Safety Act」. Thus, to improve the management of radiation exposure for diagnosis, the regulations on radiation exposure management for diagnosis under the 「Medical Service Act」 were compared and reviewed with those of the 「Nuclear Safety Act」. As a result, the main contents are as follows. First, it is necessary to legislate to include nurses, assistant nurses, and clinical practice students who are likely to be exposed to radiation besides radiationrelated workers as subjects of radiation exposure management for diagnosis. Second, when a radiation-related worker for diagnosis is confirmed to be pregnant, the exposure dose limit should be defined. Third, it is necessary to revise the regulations on the types of personal exposure dosimeters in the 「Rules on the Safety Management of Radiation Generators for Diagnostics」. Fourth, it seems that health examination items for radiation-related workers, radiation workers, and frequent visitors should be the same. Fifth, It is necessary to unify and regulate diagnostic radiation and all medical radiation, including therapeutic radiation and nuclear medicine, in one legal system.

Trend in Preference for Dental Hygienist Image among Health Care Workers (일부 병원 종사자들의 치과위생사에 대한 이미지 선호 경향)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine preference for dental hygienists. The subjects in this study were 228 employees in general hospitals located in the region of Busan, on whom a survey was conducted in May and June, 2009. The findings of the study were as follows: As for top priority of dental hygienists' duties, providing assistance for dentist treatment ranked first(28.2%), followed by scaling(23.2%) and preventive duties(20.6%). Concerning a favorable image of a dental hygienist, a cheerful look was most preferred(61.4%), followed by a clean-cut look (32.9%), a refined look (3.5%) and an intellectual look (2.2%). Among the subjects, married respondents exhibited a greater liking for a cheerful look, and the gap between them and the unmarried subjects was statistically significant($x^2=8.11$, p<.05). In terms of uniform preference, a two-piece suit with pants was most favored(76.3%). Female respondents showed a greater preference for a two-piece suit with pants, and the gap between them and the male respondents was statistically significant($x^2=41.09$, p<.001). As for major qualifications, professional knowledge was most valued (49.1%), followed by integrity/responsibility(23.2%), friendliness(22.4%), and a great personality/being well-cultivated(5.3%). Employees who were in their 40s and up placed more importance on integrity and responsibility, and the gap between them and the others was statistically significant($x^2=20.62$, p<.01).

  • This investigated 205 dental personnel in Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do to find out the effects of Dental Hygienist(Nurse's Aide)'s coaching leadership on job satisfaction, motivational self-concept and quality of life. the entire average of coaching leadership was 2.67 On 5 point scale, development coaching 2.61, relationship coaching 2.61. "my boss fully provides me with training opportunities for my development' had the lowest 2.50. As for coaching leadership according to general characteristics, had the highest average those aged of 20-25years old, work experience of 1-5years, single, salary less than 20 million, female immediate superior, immediate superior aged 20-30years old, position of immediate superior is team head, senior dental hygienists(p<.05). The three criteria had positive correlation with coaching leadership(p<.05). Therefore, Right coaching leadership increases job satisfaction, improves motivational self-concept for increasing individual development, raises quality of life.

Elderly Convalescence Facility Workers' Knowledge About Oral Health and Subjective Oral Health Care is the Degree of the Elderly (노인요양시설 종사자들의 구강보건 지식정도와 노인구강건강관리에 대한 인지정도 연구)

  • According to the result of examining the recognition on subjective oral health knowledge and elderly oral health management with a self-administered questionnaire survey conducted to 233 workers of elderly care facilities located in Gyeonggi-do, it was shown that their general oral health knowledge level was high while their elderly oral health knowledge was lower than general oral health knowledge. And it was found that respondents answering they had keen interest in the level of oral health knowledge according to the interest in elderly oral health showed a higher level of oral health knowledge than those answering they had no interest in it, which indicated statistically significant difference (p<.001). Regarding the study subjects' elderly oral health management and educational demand, quite a high percentage of 83,7% responded the education is needed. A response that it is appropriate for dental hygienists to give elderly oral health management and the education showed 57.9%, which was the most. Also, it was shown that in the level of oral health knowledge according to the recognition of elderly oral health managers and educators, subjects recognizing that it is needed to be dental hygienists indicated a high level of oral health knowledge, which showed statically significant difference (p<.05).

Occupational Radiation Exposure in Korea: 2002 (2002년 국내 방사선 작업종사자의 직업군별 피폭선량)

  • Dose distribution of Korean radiation workers classified by occupational categories was analyzed. Statistics of the occupational radiation exposure(ORE) in 2002 of the radiation workers in diagnostic and dental radiology were obtained from the Korea Food and Drug Agency(KFDA) who maintains the database for individual radiation dose records. Corresponding statistics for the rest of radiation workers were obtained by processing the individual annual doses provided by the Korea Radioisotope Association(KRIA) after deletion of individual information. The ORE distribution was classified in term of 28 occupational categories, annual individual dose levels, age groups and gender of 52733 radiation workers as of the year of 2002. The total collective dose was 66.4 man-Sv and resulting average individual ORE was 1.26 mSv. Around 80% of the workers were exposed to minimal doses less than 1.2 mSv. However, it appeared that the recorded doses exceeded 20 mSv for 43 workers in the industrial radiography and for 147 workers in the field of radiology. Particularly, recorded doses of 23 workers in radiology exceeded the annual dose limits of 50 mSv, which is extraordinary when the working environment is considered. It is uncertain whether those doses are real or caused by careless placing of dosimeters in the imaging rooms while the X-ray units are in operation. No one in the workforce of 16 operating nuclear power plant units was exposed over 20 mSv in 2002. Number of workers was the largest in their 30's of age and the mean individual dose was the highest in their 20's. Women were around 20% of the radiation workers and their average dose was around one half of that of man workers.
