The Special School Teachers' Perception of the Significant Skills Required by Students with Intellectual Disabilities for Gaining and Maintaining Employment (지적장애학생의 취업 및 고용 유지를 위한 주요기술 관련 특수교사 인식)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate 1) the perception of special school teachers on the significant skills required by students with intellectual disabilities(ID) for gaining and maintaining employment. For this study, a mixed method design including quantitative survey method and qualitative in-depth interview were utilized. First, through quantitative survey method, the perception on significant skills of students with ID for gaining and maintaining employment was investigated. At the same time, to overcome the limitation of a quantitative survey study, in-depth interviews with special school teachers were implemented. Through in-depth interviews, difficulties keeping students with ID from maintaining employment and significant skills for gaining & maintaining employment were investigated. Many students with ID have had difficulties in maintaining their employment for reasons such as behavioral problems, lack of social skills, or lack of diligence. Thus, many special teachers perceived the importance of educating the significant skills for maintaining their employment as well as gaining employment. For successful vocational transition, daily living skills, occupational skills, and personnel-social skills are significant. However, students' personal-social skills are more important than daily living skills and occupational skills. Among personal-social skills, students' sincerity, diligence, good-hearted personality, social skills, and ability for following directions of a supervisor are significant characteristics for gaining and maintaining employment.

Analysis to Determine the Employment Status of Married Women's on the Social Factors Associated (기혼여성의 고용지위 결정요인에 관련한 사회변인 분석)

  • After industrialization, the labor force participation rates of women, especially married women is drastically increasing. So, this study was designed to analyze the determinants of married women's employment status considered. For this, the determinants of married women's employment status were divided into individual-related, children-related, household-related and job-related variables to establish the research models. Based on this, the following results were drawn from a multinominal logistic regression analysis of the determinants of married women's employment status. First, an analysis of individual-related variable showed that married women had the employment status of labor wages with residence in the center of the city and high academic background. Second, an analysis of children-related variable showed that they had the employment status of labor wages with many their children and no their children under the age of six. Third, an analysis of household-related variable showed that they had the self-employment status of labor wages with nuclear family and few income earners of family members. Finally, an analysis of job-related variable showed that they had the employment status of labor wages when they got a job before they got married, their husband didn't get a job, and their husband worked in a professional field. As for findings stated above, as there was a difference in the determinants of married women's employment status, the ways for improvement in the married women's employment status would be suggested as follows. First, married women with young children have the low employment status, basically, requiring problem-solving ways for this because the housekeeping and child-rearing burden caused by marriage and childbirth are factors that continue to obstruct a job. For this, the flexible working hours system, which housekeeping and child-rearing can harmonize with economic activities like developed countries, needs to be activated. But the activation of such flexible working system will produce actual results under institutional protection, such as a related-protection law. Second, the Leave of Child Care System is debated as one of the most representatively systems that housekeeping can harmonize with economic activities. Now, although the System is legislated, the use is very poor.

Exploratory Research on Married Immigrant Women's Participation in the Official Development Assistance Programs (결혼이주여성의 공적개발원조 사업 참여를 위한 탐색적 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the possibility of recruiting married immigrant women to participate in the Official Development Assistance (ODA) program. We used focus group interviews to understand their experiences with ODA, their intent to participate in the ODA, and the resources and barriers to ODA participation. The data were collected from 14 married immigrant women who were actively engaged in the labor force in Seoul and Gyunggi areas. Data were analyzed based on the thematic analysis method. Four themes were identified including the women's experiences, motivation, barriers, and resources for ODA participation. Out of the 14 women, three had participated in the ODA and were happy with the experiences. The rest of the women wanted to participate in the ODA that supported their home countries. The results also highlighted that these married immigrant women had capabilities including a strong desire to participate in vocational development and support from their families, but they also had barriers to overcome such as a lack of work capacity, child care burden, and difficulty forming relationships with Korean colleagues. Despite these barriers, they were motivated to participate in the ODA since it would be very meaningful for them to help their home country and to improve awareness of Korea and married immigrant women. It is important to develop vocational education programs for these women to enhance the work skills that are needed in the ODA.

A Qualitative Study on the Influence of College Student Preference Job Type on Confirmation Bias (대학생의 선호직업유형이 확증편향에 미치는 영향에 관한 질적 연구)

  • This study examined the influence and role of college students' career preference type on the decision-making process of career selection, and also analyzed the effect on the confession bias in the process. The data was collected from June 20th to July 9th, 2017. The case analysis method was used for three times over 20 days by interviewing university students in the metropolitan area. The results of the analysis of the data from the study participants show that there are differences in the degree of individuals regardless of the preferred occupation type and career aptitude, but mostly there is a bias toward career and career. Confirmed biased thinking is a phenomenon that is shaped by the psychological and environmental factors of the research participants and that they try to fit themselves into a framework that reflects social awareness. The implication of this study is that the preference type affects the selection of the major, and that confirmation bias is a hindrance to proper employment and a job search. The preference for the individual job type should be properly established. Environment and opportunity should be provided.
