The major hypothesis of this study is that employed wives are more likely to be equal in performing their roles at home than full-time homemakers. However, a pattern of asymmetry exists concerning the role performance of wives regardless of their employment The specific findings are as follows : (1) Wives indicate the instrumental and the dual(mixed the traditional value with the developmental value) perceptions of marriage. (2) It is not equal in the distribution of family resources and the procedure of decision-making among couples. (3) The household labor is mainly performed by wives. (4) Wives are mainly responsible for child-rearing and indicate the inconsistent perception of mothering From the findings study suggests that : (1) Future research might investigate the reason of low family contribution among employed wives (2) The egalitarianism (role sharing) in household labor and child rearing might be extended. 93) women might be educated to pursue an independent life.

  • Using detailed data of women's work history, this study analyses the transition process between employment and non-employment over the life history in order to identity individual and structural determinants in the processes. Korean women comprise very heterogeneous groups in terms of work continuity: one group having a continuous work history and another having an interrupted work experience. While 4.0% of total women have stayed in the labor market since leaving school, 17.3% have not worked outside at all and remaining 87.9% have experienced into and out of the labor market at least once. On the average, the cumulated time of employment per woman is 8.2 years and the cumulated time of unemployment is 13.1 years. Thus Korean women work a total of only 38.5% of their whole lifetime after leaving school. We can conclude that the increase of the employment rate of married women in Korea since the 1970s has been due to the increase of the new entrants with short or little working careers into the labor market, not to the increase of women's work continuity on the whole. A women's educational achievement does not seem to be positively related to employment duration, contrary to the suggestion of the human capital theory, Rather, family variables, especially the existence of the child under 6 yens old, is a more significant determining factor for an individual's exit from employment. And there is little difference among different age cohorts which implies little improvement in the employment continuity of younger women. This study also documents the importance of structural variables, such as the type of occupation, as significant determining factors for the hazard rate. Specially women with professional jobs tend to stay longer in the labor market. Therefore, women's entry into more professional occupations is expected to contribute to the continuity of employment. Our results also show that duration-dependence is not spurious. When unobserved heterogeneity is controlled, the negative relation between the rate from employment and the duration of employment does not disappear.

For analysis, data from 2002 Women's Work Survey is employed. The results show the followings. Among women of young generation, negative effect of education has disappeared and turned out to be positive among the never married. But, marriage and the family responsibility still influence negatively on young women's participation into the labor market. In making a decision to work, husband's attitude is more important than wife's own. But, among the single, women's own attitude toward work plays an important role. In overall, women of young generation is also influenced by the family responsibility as much as the previous generation. The negative effect of marriage and the family responsibility on women's working is stronger among the college educated women.

  • This study aims to analyze everyday caring activities of young working single-person households. To collect the data, we interviewed 10 working single-person households. The topics are composed of 3 parts: 1) the everyday life of single-person households; 2) caring activities and household labor; 3) the experience of caring activities. The results are as follows : In comparison with families living together, single-person households carry out everyday caring activities alone, so they found a new meaning in caring activities and household labor. In particular, they were fully aware of the importance of everyday caring activities even though they sometimes felt the caring activities were uncomfortable. On the other hand, they improved their technique and ability for caring activities, and they felt satisfied with the caring activities. We found the meaning of everyday caring activities to be an essential condition for the independence of single-person households.

  • This study aims to explore the status and characteristics of the working poor and to identify the major determinants of their statistic status. For this, longitudinal panel data (from 2nd wave(1999) data to 7th wave(2004) data) from Korean Labor and Income Panel Study (KLIPS), is used. The data is analyzed by adopting Hierarchical Generalized Linear Model (HGLM), which is known as an app.opriate data analysis method for the hierarchically structured data, to look at the factors that affect on the poverty status of the working people. The results show that 1) it is estimated that about 1 out of 10 working people (about 10.0%) are poor, and 2) sex, education level, marital status, region where they lives, employment status, occupation type, and industry type that they are working at are significant predictors in determining their poverty status. Unlike the results of the previous studies, however, the number of the household member, age are not influenced on their poverty status. Based on these results, several policy implications are presented at the end of this paper.

Some of the outstanding research findings of the study as follows. Students at CBNU think that they are capable of team-working and utilizing internet while less so with foreign language skill. With regard to academic achievement, students responded that they have seen a relatively low outcome in foreign language competency. In terms of their job placement, CBNU students highly recognize their logical thinking skill, creativity, and activity, whereas lower satisfaction with social service, study abroad, and internship experience. For further development of the survey analysis, this study suggests additional items included to make a sophisticated analysis possible such as scholarship, part-time job, educational outcome. This is expected to allow researchers to tab into the effect of finance of CBNU students. More detailed information on students' characteristics also need to be added; collaborative learning, student faculty interaction, co-work with students from diverse background, etc., which would allow the analysis of the impact of extra-curricula activities.
