Axial Compression of Stub Columns for Concrete-filled Square Steel Tubes (일축 압축력을 받는 콘크리트충전 각형강관 단주의 구조적 거동)

  • Concrete-filled steel tubular columns can improve the strength and deformation capacity of structures, thereby enabling the development of efficient structures. The Korean design standard (KDS41) regarding concrete-filled steel tubular structures, established by the architectural institute of Korea in 2005, was revised in 2009 and 2016. The objective was to understand the compressive strengths and deformation capacity of stub columns for concrete-filled square steel tubes under uniaxial compression and validate the KDS41's standard code for necessary corrections. Experiments were conducted on 26 specimens with parameters, such as the width-thickness ratio of cold-formed square tubes. The following values of the stub columns for concrete-filled square steel tubes were obtained: compressive strengths, relationship between the axial load and axial displacement, and failure modes. An analysis of these results enabled an understanding of the concrete-filled effect and the influence of the wide-thickness ratio. The compressive strengths of filled concrete saw a 9% increase compared to a state of uniaxial stress, which must be noted in a future edition of KDS41. After benchmarking the results regarding square steel tubes generated by cold forming to the guidelines provided by the KDS41, the KDS41's value of 2.26 for the limiting width-to-thickness ratio for the compact section was found to be inflated. With a safety concern, this paper proposes a more conservative value of 1.35.

  • While the hydrogen refueling station is rapidly expanded and installed, the safety inspection of the hydrogen pressure vessel in the station should be very important. Of these, according to ASME, hydrogen embrittlement tests must be performed for hydrogen vessel that store hydrogen above a certain pressure. The main test method for hydrogen embrittlement inspection is to carry out fracture tests and fatigue fracture tests in a high pressure hydrogen atmosphere, which allows the durability limit of the pressure vessel to be measured and the endurable limit to be determined in the hydrogen atmosphere. In detail, the critical crack depth can be calculated by the stress intensity factor(K), and the service life can be determined by da/dN (fatigue growth rate). API579-1/ ASME FFS-1 part 9 exemplifies the calculation method according to the mode of crack-like flaws, but for various shapes such as plates and cylinders, there are about 55 modes according to the shape and location of the crack. Due to the fairly complex formula, it is not easily accessible. In this study, we will show you how to calculate fracture mechanics numerically via Excel and VBA. In addition, this was applied to analyze the effects of the thickness and inner diameter of the pressure vessel on the service life.

  • The effects of reinforcing materials on durability and mechanical properties of V-rib belt were investigated. Cotton fiber and ZnO were used as a filler for CR, and cotton and aramid fiber were used for EPDM rubber compounds. These materials were prepared as a specimen and V-rib belt for heat resistant and mechanical test. High contents of ZnO give improved wear resistance, and higher contents of cotton fiber showed higher durability in high rotation speed but lower wear resistance for CR rubber compounds. Using the aramid and cotton fiber together in EPDM rubber compounds, thermal and wear resistance were improved simultaneously. The material containing EPDM matrix showed better durability and wear resistance than those of containing CR matrix comparing in the same cotton fiber contents.

A Study on the Strength Evaluation of Rectangular Steel Tubular Columns Infilled with High Strength Concrete (고강도콘크리트 충전 각형강관기둥의 내력평가에 관한 연구)

  • The CFT columns used in thin-walled steel tubes can be more economical, because it was expected the increase of strength by restriction for the local buckling of steel tubes. The purpose of this paper is to review feasibility of existing design formula and verify the applicability limit of width-to-thickness ratio for increasing the strength of rectangular CFT columns. As the main parameters of experiments, width-to-thickness ratios of steel tube, height of rectangular concrete columns, and concrete filled or not. The strength of concrete are selected to 90MPa. From the test results, the confinement effect of steel tube on the compressive strength of infilled concrete is remarkably appeared in the thin-walled rectangular steel tube columns infilled wih high strength concrete. By the non-linear analysis, the axial strength from experiment result was given higher than analysis result for all CFT stub columns.

  • In response to the recent increase in demand for hydrogen stations, the Ministry of Trade and Industry has enacted and promulgated special notifications to enable the installation of hydrogen stations in the form of the combined complex in existing automotive fuel supply facilities such as LPG, CNG, and gas stations. Hydrogen multi energy filling stations haven't been operated yet in Korea till the establishment of special standards, so it is necessary create special standards by considering all Korean environmental characteristics such as four seasons and daily crossings. In this study, we collected and analyzed the charging data of Ulsan LPG-Hydrogen Multi Fueling Station installed for the first time in Korea. The data are hourly temperature and pressure data from compressors, storage vessels and dispensers. We used the data collected for a year, including the highest temperature and the lowest temperature in Ulsan to compare seasonal characteristics. As a result, it was found that the change of the outside temperature affects the initial temperature of the vehicle's container of the hydrogen car, which finally affects the charging time and the charging speed of the vehicle. There was no effect on vehicle containers because the limit temperature suggested by the Korean Hydrogen Station Standard(KGS FP217) and the US Filling Protocol(SAE J2601) was not exceeded.

Improved Degree of Freedom of Magnetic Induction Wireless Charging Coil Using Proposed Double Coil (이중코일을 이용한 자기유도 무선충전 코일의 자유도 개선)

  • Wireless charging has been actively researched and popularized owing to the potential convenience of being able to charge electronic devices without wires for users. However, the receiver on the wireless charging pad is not charged when the center of the receiver is misaligned; thus, the center of the receiver must be adjusted well. This misalignment may greatly reduce the convenience of wireless charging. To overcome this limitation of wireless charging, a coil is designed to improve the positional freedom of the receiver. The positional freedom of the Rx coil is improved when the outer diameter of Tx coil is larger than when Rx and Tx coils are almost the same size. When the Tx coil has a larger outer diameter than that of the Rx coil, the efficiency at the center is somewhat lowered, but the efficiency is improved compared to when the center is out of order. In this paper, a double coil structure having an outer and an inner coil is proposed. The double coil structure further improves the efficiency, compared with one coil with the same outer size. The simulation and measurement results demonstrated that the tendency was consistent, and it was verified that the degree of freedom of the Rx coil is improved by adding the inner coil, while the size of the outer coil was the same. The measurement shows that the transmission efficiency of the conventional Tx coil is 37 %, the larger outer diameter coil is 45 %, and double coil is 47 % when the distance of the Tx/Rx coil is 3 mm, the misalignment is 15 mm and current flowing in the Rx coil is 1 A at an operating frequency of 105 to 210 kHz.

  • The spontaneous ignition of hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose(HPMC) was investigated at constant ambient temperature in the oven and minimum ignition temperature of dust clouds with Godbret-Creenwald Furnace respectively, In the experiments of the vessel filled with sample. the larger the vessel was the lower the spontaneous ignition temperature and ambient temperature was calculated from the Frank-Kamenetskii thermal ignition theory. The minimum ignition temperature for the dust cloud state was found under 21% oxygen concentration. At the experiment with the change of oxygen concentration, HPMC was not ignite at 10% $O_2$and so the limiting oxygen concentration was obtained at 10%.

  • 최근 차량은 기존의 화석연료를 사용하는 엔진과 배터리로부터 전원을 공급받는 전동기를 연결하는 구조로 연비를 개선하기 위한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 가속 시 배터리 방전으로부터 전원을 공급받고, 감속 시 회생제동을 통해 배터리 충전을 반복한다. 이로 인한 배터리의 수명한계 및 전력 한계 등을 보완하기 위해서 초고용량 커패시터를 배터리와 함께 사용하는 이중 보조 동력원에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 배터리 수명 개선을 위해 배터리와 슈퍼커 패시터를 병렬 운전하는 5kW급 양방향 DC/DC 컨버터를 설계하여 검증하였다.
