  • The phenomenon of consumers referring to the opinions of other consumers when choosing a hotel based on review platforms is rapidly increasing. Previous research has mainly focused on how online reviews affect travelers' information acceptance and decision making. However, there are only a few studies on how hotels' CSR activities are reflected in online reviews and how this information affects potential consumers. As the importance of CSR in the hotel industry continues to grow, it is meaningful to analyze whether a hotel's CSR activities are communicated to other potential consumers through online reviews. In this study, we explored the relationship by considering the reviewer's culture as a leading factor of CSR information included in online reviews and review usefulness as a subsequent factor. For empirical analysis, 6,632 online reviews of hotels located in Seoul were collected and analyzed using multilevel regression analysis. The LIWC(Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count) methodology was used to measure CSR information, and national culture was measured separately into East and West. As a result of the analysis, consumers in Asian countries tend to write relatively more CSR information in online reviews, and CSR information included in reviews had a positive effect on review usefulness.

  • In the Fourth Industrial Revolution era, global powers are enhancing R&D support to leverage innovations like AI, IoT, and big data for productivity gains and structural economic and social reforms. Yet, the declining R&D budget growth rate and the forecasted sharp cut in South Korea's R&D budget in 2024 highlight the critical need for national R&D performance management system discussions. Diverging from previous studies focused on quantitative analysis of performance determinants, this research utilizes fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis(fsQCA) to explore the interplay of factors affecting research institutions' outcomes comprehensively. Analyzing data from 2018 to 2022, it examines three outcome types of research institutions, identifying factor combinations crucial for success. By pinpointing these factors' configurations, the study offers institution-specific performance enhancement guidelines and insights for national R&D policy management and performance evaluation efficiency.

  • This study aimed to analyze the main forest environmental factors affecting the discernment of slow-moving landslide-prone areas in the Republic of Korea, based on data from a detailed landslide survey conducted from 2019 to 2021. Field survey data from 256 sites were collected covering 29 forest environmental factors in seven categories, including geology, soil, and topography. The analysis was conducted using the Random Forest model (AUC = 0.910) and XGBoost model (Accuracy = 0.808, Kappa = 0.594, F1 - measure = 0.494), which were evaluated as having high classification accuracy during the machine learning model development process. Consequently, factors with a high mean decrease Gini (MDG), representing classification importance, were identified as the presence of cracks (average MDG of both models: 22.1), peak elevation (14.8), and the presence of steps (7.0), indicating that these were significant factors in determining slow-moving landslide-prone areas. The presence of cracks and steps aligned well with the characteristics of slow-moving landslides, suggesting that their importance should be emphasized in future detailed landslide surveys. However, the influence of the peak elevation was considered somewhat overestimated due to the characteristics of the input data used in the analysis. These findings are expected to further improve the accuracy and efficiency of final judgments in detailed landslide surveys.

  • This study aimed to identify differences in soil properties and geological characteristics between slow-moving landslide prone areas and areas without landslide (control areas) in the Republic of Korea. During this 3-year field surveys (2019-2021), 11 soil and geological parameters were measured at 300 sites, i.e., 107 slow-moving landslide prone areas and 193 control areas. T-tests were conducted to identify differences in field-observed parameters between the two areas, followed by χ2-tests and density plots considering distribution patterns of the sample groups. We identified statistically significant differences between the areas in terms of soil internal friction angle, weathered rock thickness, bedrock thickness, and number of major geological anomaly zones. In conclusion, slow-moving landslide prone areas exhibited significant differences in geological characteristics, such as stratum thickness and presence of anomaly zones, compared with the control areas. To better understand the relationship between the geological characteristics identified in this study and the occurrence of slow-moving landslides, further field data collection and systematic analyses are warranted.

  • Chatbots are becoming increasingly popular as interactive communication tools that provide not only convenience but also a friendly and humanized experience. Due to the interactive nature of chatbots, they can exchange information with users to perform various tasks, and users sometimes intentionally provide inaccurate information. Considering social presence of conversational agents, perceived risk of providing personal information, and trust in algorithms as key influencing factors, this study explores the effects of those factors on the intention to provide inaccurate information in the context of online dating services and examine whether these effects vary across types of conversational agents. We conducted an analysis of structural equation model using data collected from Amazon Mechanical Turk (MTurk). The analysis results showed significant relationships between factors related to the intention to provide inaccurate information and empirically confirmed that those relationships vary by types of conversational agents. Out findings have academic implications for the behavior of providing inaccurate information in online environments and practical implications for designing chatbots to reduce such intentions. We also discuss the ethical implications of the consequences of inaccurate information online.

  • Clubroot caused by Plasmodiophora brassicae is an important disease of crucifer crops worldwide. This study aimed to establish an efficient screening method to determine resistant cultivars of Chinese cabbage against P. brassicae. To do this, we investigated the virulence of seven P. brassicae isolates using seedlings of susceptible Chinese cabbage cultivar. The isolates exhibited different virulence in the plants and were divided into three groups based on their virulence. When we explored the disease occurrence in Chinese cabbage seedlings according to photoperiod after inoculation of P. brassicae and incubation temperature, the plants with all-day light showed higher disease severity than seedlings cultivated under 14 hr of light a day. The occurrence of clubroot disease was most severe at 25℃, followed by 20℃ and 18℃, but the fresh weight of clubroot of the seedlings cultivated at 20℃ was the highest, followed by plants grown at 25℃ and 18℃. When the seedlings of two commercial resistant cultivars were inoculated with the mixed spore suspensions of two different pathotype isolates of P. brassicae, disease severity increased as the spore concentration of the susceptible P. brassicae isolate among the two strains increased, suggesting that the clubroot development by different pathotype isolates was independent and not influenced by each other. Taken together, our results provide a faster and more accurate screening methods to determine the resistance of Chinese cabbage against P. brassicae.

  • The sensory characteristics of imported (two dry, two sweet, and one medium dry wines) and domestic (one sweet wine) red wine were evaluated by 250 panels. The preferences of aroma, color, sweetness, tartness, astringency, and overall acceptability were determined by 5-point just-about-right scale. Among six wines, B sample obtained the highest mean overall acceptability score of 3.67 and its chemical and sensory characteristics were as follow: cherry or strawberry aroma, 9.4 brix, 3.7% of sugar content, pH 3.5, 10% of ethanol, 0.14% of tannin, 5.74 mg/mL of total organic acids, and color of $L(12.04{\pm}0.01)$, $a(33.90{\pm}0.19)$, and $b(8.22{\pm}0.00)$. These results revealed that Korean consumers generally prefer sweet taste to dry one, flat taste to bitter one, and fruity aroma to others. Panels preferred a red wine containing high sugar content of $5{\sim}10%$. On the other hand, panels showed low preference to the wine containing tannin above 0.16%. However, these general trends were slightly varied depending on their ages and consuming frequencies.

  • This study was performed to examine the effect of the clay mineral illite on the improvement of soil and plant growth. Red pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) was used as a test vegetable crop. The experiment was performed during six weeks in the plantation of the Chungbuk National University. Its seedlings were cultivated in the soil normally used for horticultural purpose. Among the seedlings germinated the healthy and regular size of seed were selected and cultivated in the plantation. They were treated with two forms of illite, particulate (PA) and powder (PW), at the following application rates: standard application[P1 (PA1, PW1), soil: illite = 1:20 (w/w)] and two times [P2 (PA2, PW2), 1:10 (w/w)] of standard application. Untreatment (P0) was used as a control soil. At six weeks of cultivation, their growth lengths were correspondingly increased as the application rate was increased ranging from P0, P1, and P2. Their growth length was a little greater with the application of powder illite (PW) than with the particulate illite (PA). Based on the plant analysis of root, leaf, and stem of red pepper, the uptake amounts of K, Ca, and Mg, were correspondingly increased, as the application rate was increased ranging from P0, P1, and P2 respectively. At the same application rate, their amounts taken up in the respective parts were higher with the application of PW illite than on the PA one. Especially the amounts of Ca and Mg were higher in the stem and leaf than root. Consequently, it appears that the illite treatment, especially, PW form of illite, enhance the growth of red pepper in the plantation during the six weeks of experiment.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of beginning teachers in elementary school as they experience the lifecycle of teachers, to analyze and comprehend the difficulties of these teachers based on their characteristics, and to propose a resolution strategy. The study is intended to assist beginning teachers in adapting well to their work and profession as teachers in order to contribute to the growth in quality of education; it is also intended to prepare beginning teachers to utilize their time in elementary school as a period of self-improvement to become proficient teachers. The difficulties in human relations that beginning teachers experience in school can be divided into three major categories: relations with administrators and fellow teachers, relations with parents of students, and relations with students. The standardized and uniform culture of a school and the administrators and fellow workers imposing such a culture are the reason for the difficulties that beginning teachers face, and the question of what kind of fellow teachers the beginning teachers will encounter in their first school exerts a serious influence on the growth of these teachers, who have just begun their career in education. Furthermore, the lack of skills to discipline students eventually leads beginning teachers to face difficulties in controlling students in the classroom, and the process of encountering and resolving various classroom problems contributes to the growth of teachers' proficiency. Moreover, the attitude of students' parents who behave toward them as novice teachers serves as the reason for beginning teachers to lose their confidence or face difficulties in their careers, and exerts an influence on student counseling and guidance. The resolution strategy that beginning teachers apply as they encounter such problems with the entities in the educational field is as follows: imitation, listening, and accepting the thoughts and to renounce. To resolve the difficulties that beginning teachers experience, it is necessary to allocate space and time to discuss their difficulties and possible plans for resolution during the beginning teachers' training period and initiate a mentoring system in schools. Lastly, it is necessary that the offices of education continuously conduct qualitative research on beginning teachers and publish casebooks on such studies.
