  • The effect of pressure perturbation in the ramjet engine on the characteristics of the inlet is studied via numerical simulation. The frequency and amplitude of the pressure perturbation are assumed to be 500Hz and 20% of the exit back pressure, respectively. The simulation shows the characteristics of the normal shock in the inlet according to the pressure perturbations. The relation between the captured mass flow rate and downstream pressure perturbation is studied. The mass flow rate decreases when the downstream pressure perturbation starts.

  • Propagation phenomena of nonlinear pressure waves in a bubbly mixture are studied. The governing equations for a bubbly mixture are derived heuristically and energy equation is incorporated with other governing equations to take thermal effects into consideration inside the bubble. This non-isothermal condition of the bubble inside is especially important when high amplitude pressure waves are treated. Keller's equation is adapted for the bubble dynamics as practical problem. Some numerical simulations are carried out for the shock tube problem using a computer program based on the above model. A comparison with experimental results of Noordzij and van Wijngaarden shows that the structure of the wave in the shock tube experiment seems to be much more significantly affected 요 the complex heat transfer phenomena inside the bubbles than by the relative translational motion between bubbles and surrounding liquid.

  • A new novel Whipping Factor is proposed as a measure of the ship damage potential due to an underwater explosion bubble pulse. The factor was derived from the relationships among the charge weight, its depth and the fluid acceleration due to pulsating gas bubble. From the whipping response analyses for three uniform Timoshenko beams with similar characteristics of real naval surface ships, we have confirmed the maximum bending moment responses of beams due to whipping are almost same if the applied whipping factor is constant regardless of the charge weights and depths, which could validate the proposed whipping factor.

  • Two-dimensional hydrodynamic analysis was performed to analyze the attenuating characteristics of shock waves generated by the detonation of the bulkhead initiator. Through the interlocking analysis between HNS and HMX stacking initiator and STS bulkhead, we have precisely simulated detonation growth and pressure wave attenuation phenomena. The free surface velocity at the surface of the bulkhead was measured for quantitative comparison with the test data by VISAR. As a result, it was confirmed that the pressure attenuating pattern of the shock wave exponentially decreased according to the bulkhead thickness. The observed inflection point at the particle velocity measured over time is due to the subsequent propagation of the shock wave due to the rapid spallation of the interface between the detonator and the bulkhead.

  • In this study, simulation of weak shock waves are peformed by a two-dimensional thermal fluid or compressible fluid model of the lattice Boltzmann method. The shock wave represents an abrupt change in fluids properties, in which finite variations in pressure, internal energies, and density occur over the shock thickness. The characteristics of the proposed model with a simple distribution function is verified by calculation of the sound speeds, and the shock tube problem. The reflection of a weak shock wave by wedge propagating in a channel is performed. The results agree well with those by finite difference method or by experiment. In the simulation of unsteady shock wave diffraction around a sharp corner, we show a flow field of vortical structure near the comer.

  • Dimensional analysis is an important tool for developing mathematical models of physical phenomena in order to understand the effects of laser shock peening(LSP) process parameters. By using the Bucking ${\prod}$ theorem, we proposed an applicable dimensional analysis method to verify the effects of LSP process parameters on the residual stresses. Furthermore, by using finite element analysis, we proposed a finite element method of LSP and discussed various parameters, such as peak pressure, pressure pulse duration, laser spot size, and multiple LSPs.

  • Information on overpressure, positive phase duration, and impulse are required to assess the effects of shock waves or pressure waves on the structure. In this study, the overpressure and positive phase duration were determined by applying the Multi-Energy Method, which is found to be effective in analyzing the explosion of vapor clouds. Based on the total heat of combustion estimated in the cyclohexane vapor cloud explosion in the Nypro Ltd(UK), overpressure and positive phase duration at the distance of 40, 80, 120, 160, 200, 240, 280, 320, 360(m) from the source of explosion were evaluated. Overpressure was shown to decrease exponentially and positive phase duration increased almost linearly with distance. A probit function was used to assess the probability of damages for the structures at each distance using the overpressure and impact obtained at the above mentioned distances. The Analyses of probability of damages have shown that there is a high probability of collapse at distances within 120m, major damage to structures within 240m, and minor damage and breakage of window panes of structures occur over the entire distances.

  • In supersonic propulsion system, the inlet buzz phenomenon in the subcritical operation arises large pressure oscillation, combustion instability, and thrust loss, etc. Inlet Buzz phenomenon and the spray injection/combustion are figured out by the unified unsteady numerical analysis. TAB(Taylor Analogy Breakup) model was applied. Acoustic mode of the entire engine was investigated by detail analysis of pressure fluctuation at each location of the engine.

  • This paper presents a numerical investigation of deflagration to detonation transition (DDT) induced by shock wave and flame interaction in ethylene-air mixtures. Also shows the change of DDT triggering time by wall cooling effect. A model is consisted of the compressible reactive Navier-Stokes equations. And the effect of viscosity, thermal conduction, molecular diffusion, chemical reaction and wall effect are included. Using this model, the generation of hot spot by repeated shock and flame interaction, occurrence of detonation, and wall cooling effect of detonation confining boundaries are studied.

  • The goal of this paper is to investigate the generation characteristics of the main impulsive noise sources generated by the supersonic flow discharging from a muzzle. For this, this paper investigates two fundamental mechanisms to sound generation in shocked flows: shock motion and shock deformation. Shock motion is modeled numerically by examining the interaction of a sound wave with a shock. The numerical approach is validated by comparison with results obtained by linear theory for a small disturbance case. Shock deformations are modeled numerically by examining the interaction of a vortex ring with a blast wave. A numerical approach of a dispersion-relation-preserving(DRP) scheme is used to investigate the sound generation and propagation by their interactions in near-field.
