Composite propeller shafts for a vehicle have major advantages such as reduction of vibration, noise, and weight. A propeller shaft was designed with a carbon/epoxy composite material using the finite element method(FEM), and prototype shafts for tests were manufactured by the filament winding manufacturing process. In order to verify the design procedure by FEM, Two kinds of experimental tests were carried out using a FFT analyzer with impact hammers and a critical speed measuring apparatus for measurement of natural frequencies and critical speeds. The difference between the FEM analysis result and the test result was less than 3.4%, showing FEM analysis results to be acceptable. The parametric study was focused on determining the factor affecting the vibration and strength characteristics of the propeller shaft based on FEM. In investigation of the change in natural frequency without an increase in propeller shaft weight, it was found that the winding angle is the most significant factor affecting the vibration and strength characteristics.
Water hammering created by an unsteady flow in pipeline systems can cause excessive change in pressure, vibration, and noise. So, water hammer analysis is very important for limiting the damage caused to pipeline, pump and valve systems by operation conditions. On the other hand, water hammer arrester has been manufactured and used in order to minimize the damage caused by water hammering phenomenon in domestic, and it has been produced and installed as the low cost-oriented because of being no separate standard in the meanwhile. Therefore, our research team investigated about the standardization of water hammer arrester performance through the various methods, such as test methods for verification of one pipe, assuming the occurrence of water hammer in a water-based fire extinguishing system, separated for opening impact pressure and shut off impact pressure and for a branch pipe in order to make guideline for water hammer arrester performance. And finally, verified the performance of the water hammer pressure as the simple mechanical way using the U-shaped pipe and a test weight, so KFI standards for the water hammer arrester could be established.

This case study is concerned with the project of the explosive demolition for the KOGAS office building located in Bundang district in Seongnam city. Since the office building was a kind of long-span beam structures, a mechanical demolition method using jacking support systems was considered in the beginning of the project. With consideration of the excessive reinforcement cost, uncertainty of safety, and prolonged construction period, however, the original plan was later changed to use an explosive demolition method. For the purpose of protecting nearby buildings and facilities during the collapse process, the explosive initiation sequence was elaborately designed to bring down the building structure towards its front left corner. A total of over 550 electronic detonators (Unitronic 600) was used to sequentially initiate the explosives installed at appropriate columns in the first, second, and fifth floors. To diminish dust production, water bags of small and large sizes were respectively installed at each column and on the floors to be blasted. As such, every effort was exercised to mitigate overall noise, dust, and shock vibrations that could be generated during the explosive demolition process for the office building.

Recently, studies on the integrity of rotating machines, such as gantry cranes, which are used in the shipbuilding industry, have been actively conducted. Gantry cranes are driven at relatively low revolutions per minute (RPM), are frequently operated and stopped, and are impacted by external environmental factors, such as shock and noise in the measurement data. The purpose of this study was to construct a replica of a gantry crane hoist used in indoor shipbuilding and analyze the acquired data for errors caused by the shift in operating conditions (RPM) and the change in the position of the data acquisition sensor. Consequently, we observed that the error caused by differences in sensor positions did not occur significantly under low operating conditions but occurred significantly under relatively high operating conditions. Thus, we determined that both the operating condition and position of the acquisition sensor affected the data acquired by the rotary machine.

The purpose of this study is to propose and analyse new technology of structural elements design for Korean-style house(Hanok). Design of modern apartment building adopts many aesthetic elements from Hanok, however, these are only for the decorations of interior. In this study, projected Hanok eaves were studied in terms of the length of solar insolation. Inclined front slab system has been proposed utilizing sloping roof to an apartment building section. This system can provide the same sunshine radiation length and outside view to all levels of building to overcome the limitation of traditional hanok. It also can be applied to all residences the vertical garden concept of hanok. Inclined slab system showed 20% more efficient than flat slab system in terms of solar insolation length. This study also suggested a double deck slab system for not only reducing apartment floor impact noise but also connecting concept of traditional maru system in hanok. Double deck system reduces 66% of floor impact noise comparing with single deck slab of modern apartment buildings.

When a train enters the tunnel at high speed, the pressure wave occurs. When this pressure wave reaches at the exit of tunnel, some are either emitted to the outside or reflected in tunnel by the form of expansion wave. The wave emitted to the outside forms the impulsive pressure wave. This wave is called 'Micro Pressure Wave'. The micro pressure wave generates noise and vibration around a exit portal of tunnel. When it becomes worse, it causes anxiety for residents and damage to windows. Thus, it requires a counterplan and prediction about the micro pressure wave for high speed railway construction. In this paper, the effects of train head nose and tunnel portal shape were investigated by model test, measurement for the micro pressure wave at the operating tunnel as well as numerical analysis for the gradient of pressure wave in the tunnel. As results, a method for predicting the intensity of the micro pressure wave is suggested and then the intensity of the micro pressure wave is analyzed by the tunnel length and the cross-sectional area.

When the train enters into a tunnel a high speed, pressure waves are generated inside the tunnel. The pressure waves at propagate in a form of compression wave toward the tunnel exit and a fraction of the compression waves that arrives at the exit of the tunnel are discharged to outside of the tunnel and the remainder is reflected into the tunnel as expansion waves. The compression waves emitted from the tunnel does not radiate in a specific direction but in all directions. If the amplitude of the compression wave is great, it causes noise and vibration, and it is called "Micro-Pressure Wave." "Micro-Pressure Wave" must be considered as a decision for the optimum tunnel cross-section as the amplitude of the compression wave depends on train speed, tunnel length, area of tunnel and train. Therefore, this paper introduces the case study of Micro-Pressure Wave characteristics for determination of tunnel cross section in Honam high speed railway, the pressure inside the tunnel and the micro-pressure waves at tunnel exit were measured at Hwashin 5 tunnel in Kyungbu HSR line. At the same time. a test of train operation model was performed and then the measurement results and test results were compared to verify that the various parameters used as input conditions for the numerical simulations, which were appropriate. Also a model test was performed, in order to analysis of the Micro-Pressure Wave Mitigation Performance by Type of Hood at Entrance Portal.

AGT system is a kind of light railway train. AGT system use of concrete track and rubber tire, so it can be reduce the noise and vibration, compare to the normal train system. And, the dynamic responses of normal bridge are influenced by the dynamic characteristics of bridge, the speed of vehicle and the surface roughness of railway. But the AGT system bridge is influenced not only the above facts but also the guiderail unevenness, because, AGT vehicle steered by guiderail. So, in this study, optimized service condition is suggested for the design and operation of AGT system, by the means of experimental study. The experiments are executed for PSC bridge with length of 30m, at the AGT test line in Kyongsan. The test results are compared and investigated according to the prominence. In the test result, the guiderail prominence influenced on the dynamic response of bridge. It shows a increase as compared with no guiderail prominence in the dynamic response value acceleration, displacement, stain.

This study is about the selection and noise test of electronic sensor which is preceded by electric Operating Cell(EOC) development using electronic sensor technology to solve the structural weakness of Mechanism Operated Cell(MOC) in VCB, and has a final target in product development minimizing contact malfunction of the chattering or rebounce states caused by existing MOC. In this test results, when opening and closing VCB, rising velocity of surge voltage in opening time was measured 4.2 times faster than closing time and noise decibel value was measured respectively 120dB and 110dB. When supplying 60kV power frequency overvoltage, we found that sensor output graph in VCB opening and closing times operated stably without distortion. When supplying 150kV $1.2{\times}50{\mu}s$ impulse frequency voltage, we found that voltage graph of output contact in sensor opening and closing sides maintained a normal condition without distortion, and when supplying 2500A current, we found that tested result of electric field noise operated stably without distortion.
