The present study emphasizes a nonlinear model to predict the shear behaviour of reinforced concrete interior beam-column joints. To model the shear behaviour of a panel zone in the beam-column joint, a modified softened truss model theory for in-plane shear prediction was introduced. This relationship was changed to define the characteristics for the rotational spring to represent the shear deformation in the joint by an equivalent moment-rotation relationship from the joint equilibrium. The analysis model was compared with experiments on reinforced concrete interior beam-column joints that were subjected to axial and shear forces, and the current model was found to accurately predict not only the shear force but also the shear deformation in the joint.

The exact solution of strength of reinforced concrete RC columns subjected to axial compression combined with biaxial bending needs trial and adjustment procedure to find the depth and inclination of the neutral axis. Thus, approximate methods of analysis and design for biaxial bending are used in practice. Load contour interprets the relation of biaxial bending and equivalent uniaxial bending by u factor which is related to material properties and column shapes. The purpose of this study is to investigate the behavior of high strength RC columns subjected to the combined axial compression and biaxial bending. Fifteen test specimens with dimensions of 200mm$\times$200mm and 4-Dl3 longitudinal steel were examined. The variable of the test is compressive strength of concrete (350, 585, 650kgf/$cm^{2}$), compression load ratio (0.2$P_{o}}$, 0.35$P_{o}}$, 0.5$P_{o}}$), and inclination of loading ($\theta$=0, 22.5, $45^{\circ}$). Test results of coefficient $\alpha$ depending on the compressive strength of concrete are compared with ACI code.
The effect of higenamine upon the interval-strength relationship was kinetically analyzed, and compared them with epinephrine and calcium ion. The followings are result obtained : 1) Polyphasic patterns were seen by all agents applied on the interval-force curve of rabbit atrial muscle. 2) Higenamine, unlike calcium ion, increased the amount of PIEA produced per beat dose-dependently and scarcely affected the disappearance of NIEA. 3) Higenamine appeared to similar pattern with epinephrine in augmenting the PIEA, not affecting the NIEA. 4) Calcium ion slightly influenced the PIEA, rather hastened the disappearance of NIEA. From these result the positive inotropic action of higenamine was attributed solely to increment of PIEA.
When stress is beyond elastic limit or cracks occur in a reinforced concrete member subjected to axial force and biaxial bending, curvature about each principal axis of uncracked section is influenced by axial force and bending moments about both major and minor principal axes. It is mainly due to the translation and rotation of principal axes of the cross section after cracking. Recently, by considering these effects, a numerical method predicting the behavior of concrete columns subjected to axial force and biaxial bending was proposed. In this study, in order to verify the proposed numerical method and investigate the effects of cracking on the behavior of reinforced concrete columns, a series of tests were carried out for 16 tied reinforced concrete columns with 100×100 mm square and 200×100 mm rectangular sections under various loading conditions. The angle between the direction of eccentricity and the major principal axis of uncracked section were 0, 30, 40° for the square section and 0, 30, 45, 60, 90° for the rectangular section, respectively. A comparison between numerical predictions and test results shows good agreements in ultimate loads, axial force-lateral deflection relations, and lateral deflection trajectories. It is also found, in this limited investigation, that the ACI's moment magnifier method is conservative in both uniaxial and biaxial loading conditions.

In this research, nonlinear Timoshenko beam element that is able to capture nonlinear shear deformation is developed. The proposed model shows more reasonable prediction than Bernoulli beam theory in short columns or strong shear column due to the consideration of shear deformation. The cross-section is modeled as fiber approach. Since the model is based on the fiber approach for section discretization, the plastic progress of the section can be traced and the coupling effect of the axial and flexural response. The developed element is implemented into the finite element program to analysis general reinforced concrete structures. As parametric study, reinforced concrete columns are analyzed and compared with experimental results, analyzed the property of behavior for reinforced concrete columns.

As a continuing work of previously conducted standard tension tests, full-scale flexural tests were conducted in this study to assess the structural performance the CJP groove welded joints connecting thick HSA800 plates. Two welding electrodes were available at the time of this experimental research; one was GMAW-based electrode A and the other FCAW-based electrode B. Three full-scale box-type beam specimens with single bevel- and V-groove CJP welded joints were fabricated from 60mm and 25mm thick HSA800 plates according to the AWS-prequalified groove welded joint details. In designing the specimens, all possible limit states like local and lateral torsional buckling were carefully controlled in order to induce flexural plastic yielding or eventual joint fracture. All the CJP joints made by both welding electrodes showed satisfactory performance and were able to transfer the tensile flange forces higher than that corresponding to the measured tensile strength of HSA800 flange plates. However, it should be noted that, during fabrication, serious concerns about the welding efficiency and workability of the GMAW-based electrode were raised by a certified welder. The fracture occurred at the unbeveled (or vertical) interface between the weldment and the base metal when the GMAW-based electrode was used in the single-bevel joint, implying the possibility of insufficient melting. Thus, the FCAW-based electrode B is again recommended as the choice of welding electrode for HSA800 plates. The limited test data of this study implies that the V-groove CJP joint should be used in favor of the single bevel CJP joint, if possible.
This paper presents the results of a parametric study on the interaction between buried pipes and surface load using the finite element method of analysis. A series of laboratory model tests were also performed in order to validate the adopted finite element model and to capture essential features of the physical behavior of buried pipes subjected to surface load. In the parametric study, a wide range of boundary conditions were analyzed with emphasis on the response of the buried pipes to surface load. The results of analysis such as contact stress distribution at the soil/pipe interface and axial thrust of the pipe were thoroughly analyzed, and a database on the response of buried pipe under surface load was established for future development of a semi-empirical design/analysis method. The results indicated that the degree of interaction between buried pipes and surface load significantly varies with the vertical and lateral location of pipe with respect to surface load, and that the current design method, which does not consider soil-structure interaction, cannot correctly capture the pipe response to surface loading. Furthermore, based on the results of analysis, a semi-empirical equation was suggested, which estimates the maximum pipe thrust due to surface load for flexible buried pipes.

Many studies have been conducted on the high tension bolt friction connection in the view of the field practice. Those effort, however, unfortunately have not been appropriately applied in the design specifications. Recently, particularly for steel bridges, rationalization of design takes greater attention from designers and hence, demand on rationalization of high tension connection becomes more significant. The purpose of this study is to suggest direction for the rationalization of high tension bolt connection and to also provide fundamental information for the improvement of the design specifications. In order to accomplish the purposes, the design specifications in Korea was analyzed and compared with other specification from abroad, and was studied one of the most important factors including slip coefficient, and the specifications on the size of bolt holes. The effect of over-sized bolt hole and the reduction of axial force on bolt was evaluated through the experimental studies on the slippage of the high tension bolt connections. Other research topics included herein includes the difference of slip coefficients, the effect of over-sized bolt holes and the gap distance of members, and the application of filler plate and corrosion protected bolts. From the research results, it is known that the specifications in Korea apply a constant slip coefficient with respect to the contacted surface conditions while various coefficients are available depending on the contacted surface conditions. Therefore, it is recommended that the specifications in Korea also develop and detail the slip coefficient which can appropriately take account of the variation of the contacted surface conditions. It is also suggested that the limitation abroad on the over-sized bolt hole may be applied for enhancing the effectiveness of construction.

In January 2022, a new legislation was enforced to enhance the safety of underground construction. Consequently, a comprehensive assessment of underground safety is now an integral part of the planning process, including an evaluation of its impact. Ensuring the stability of temporary retaining walls during underground excavation has become paramount, prompting a heightened focus on the assessment of underground safety. This study delves into the analysis of the Multi-axis Flat Continuous Soil Cement Wall retaining wall (MFS) construction method. This method facilitates the expansion of wall thickness in the ground and provides flexibility in selecting and spacing H-piles. Through laboratory model tests, we scrutinized the load-displacement behavior of the wall, varying the H-pile installation intervals using the MFS method. Additionally, a 3-dimensional numerical analysis was conducted to explore the influence of H-pile installation intervals and sizes on the load for different thicknesses of the MFS retaining wall. The displacement analysis yielded the calculation of the height of the arching effect acting on the wall. To further our understanding, a design method was introduced, quantitatively analyzing the results of axial force and shear force acting on the wall. This involved applying the maximum arching height, calculated by the MFS method, to the existing member force review method. The axial force and shear force, contingent on the H-pile installation interval and size applied to the MFS retaining wall, demonstrated a reduction effect ranging from 24.6% to 62.9%.
In this study, new moment-resisting precast concrete beam-column joint made up of hybrid steel concrete was developed and tested. This beam-column joint is proposed for use in moderate seismic regions. It has square hollow tubular section in concrete column and connecting plate in precast U-beam. The steel elements in column and beam members were connected using bolt. Furthermore, in order to prevent the premature failure of concrete in hybrid steel-concrete connection, ECC(engineered cementitious composite) was used. An experimental study was carried out investigating the joint behavior subjected to reversed cyclic loading and constant axial compressive load. Two precast beam-column joint specimens and monolithic reinforced concrete joint specimen were tested. The variables for interior joints were cast-in-situ concrete area and transverse reinforcement within the joint. Tests were carried out under displacement controlled reverse cyclic load with a constant axial load. Joint performance is evaluated on the basis of connection strength, stiffness, energy dissipation, and displacement capacity. The test results showed that significant differences in structural behavior between the two types of connection because of different bonding characteristics between steel and concrete; steel and ECC. The proposed joint detail can induce to move the plastic hinge out of the ECC and steel plate. And proposed precast connection showed better performance than the monolithic connection by providing sufficient moment-resisting behavior suitable for applications in moderate seismic regions.
