  • Flame deflector is an important plan item for protecting propulsion system model, test facility, and life. This study suggests the way of flame deflector design in test facility evaluating performance of 75 ton and 300ton PSM. The flame deflector height was designed as 30m using a slope way in establishment location of facility. The flame deflector suitability was considered according to the shape of open and closed type. Also the cooling duct was made as modeling in accordance with core and side injection type.

  • Liquid rocket propulsion test facility should provide for the interface condition installed on the upper level system for the test article. In addition, safety provision should be provided to be ready for accident such as explosion which can be occurred during development stage. For this purpose infra-structures of test facilities must be constructed so that stable combustion test can be performed and be guard against accidents. In this article, various aspects for infrastructures of propulsion test facilities are investigated including architecture and civil engineering aspects, test stand, room arrangements, interfaces among facilities, fire-fighting facilities, electrical power facilities.

  • Propulsion system test complex (PSTC) is designed to verify propulsion system of KSLV-II. It is composed of hydraulic and pneumatic system, test stand system, control/measurement system, and flame deflector and safety system. In this study, kerosene filling system of hydraulic and pneumatic system is introduced. It performs store and chilling of kerosene, chilling and purging of filling line, and filling and retrieval of the kerosene. The kerosene supply requirements of 1, 2 and 3 stages of KSLV-II are considered in design process.

  • Korea Space Launch Vehicle II (KSLV-II) planned to launch in 2021 is 3 stage rocket which can inject 1.5 ton satellite in low earth orbit. KSLV-II will adapt the newly developed liquid rocket engines for its propulsion system of each stage. For the evaluation of development level for rocket engine, integrated system test performed in appropriate facility is needed. In this study, test article and major parameters for certifying the propulsion system of KSLV-II were reviewed and optimum test cycle and test duration for satisfying system reliability requirement were illustrated.

  • This paper describes a construction scheme of hot backup or triple modular redundancy control system in a ground hot-firing test facility to carry out performance assessment of propulsion system used in a space launch vehicle. It was possible for a hot backup redundancy control system with manual operated console to simulate TMR control system. A console layout of control system in control center to restrict imprudent works of operators was proposed.

  • Korea Aerospace Research Institute started on design and development of a hypersonic air-breathing engine test facility from 2000 and completed the test facility installation in July 2009. This facility, designated as Scramjet engine test facility(SeTF), is a blow-down type high enthalpy wind tunnel which has a pressurized air supply system, air heater system, free-jet test chamber, fuel supply system, facility control/measurement system and exhaust system. In this paper, details of the specifications, and configuration of the SeTF are described. For verifying characteristics of the SeTF, wind tunnel tests are now on progress and some of the data are also described.
