Methods : The patient was diagnosed as lumbar bulging disc, and was treated by lumbar traction technique with other conservative treatments including acupunture herbal mixture. And we measured Visual Analog Score(VAS), Modified Bathel Index(MBI), Nurick's Classification, Range of movement of ankle joint. Results : After treatments, Visual Analog Score, Modified Bathel Index, Nurick's Classification, Range of movement of ankle joint were improved in case. Conclusion : Oriental medical treatments with Chuna manual therapy were associated with improvement of foot drop by herniated intervertbral lumbar disc.

Methods : This study was carried out on 30 patients with Back pain and Sciatica who ere hospitalized in Dongshin Univ. Oriental Hospital form April 2001 to December, 2002. Group A of 15 patients wer taken both common treatment and Chuna treatment. And Group B of 15 patients were only taken common treatment. And after 10 days of admission, we checked and compared VAS(Visual Analogue Scale) and improvement index out of these two groups. Results : The result of the VAS(Visual Analogue Scale) and improvement index of comparison analysis between two groups after 10 days, shows that the improvement of Back pain and Sciatica in Common treatment with Chuna treatment Group is more effective than that in Common treatment Group.

  • Objectives : This is a case series reporting of the improvement in patients with a lumbar herniated intervertebral disc by means of acupotomy combined with oriental medicine. Methods : We treated seven patients with a lumbar herniated intervertebral disc with acupotomy combined with oriental medical treatment. We checked the numeric rating scale(NRS), oswestry low back pain disability index(ODI) and range of motion(ROM). Results : NRS and ODI decreased, and ROM improved in all cases. Conclusions : This study shows acupotomy has a meaningful effect when applied on a lumbar herniated intervertebral disc.

Methods : We treated one patient with a lumbar herniated intervertebral disc with needle-embedding acupuncture therapy combined with Korean medical treatment. We checked the numeric rating scale(NRS), oswestry low back pain disability index(ODI) and straight leg raising test(SLRT). Results : In this case, the numeric rating scale decreased, while the straight leg raising test results improved. Conclusion : Needle-embedding acupuncture therapy could be effective for pain-reduction for a lumbar herniated intervertebral disc.

  • The diagnosis of pyomyositis in the pelvic region is difficult, as its incidence is relatively, with symptoms that mimic those of discogenic pain. Sciatica is a common presentation of a prolapsed lumbar disc. Less common causes, such as spinal stenosis, pelvic tumors or even primary nerve tumors can also cause these symptoms. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a useful diagnostic tool. Herein, the case of a patient with an acute pyogenic infection in the iliopsoas muscle, presenting with sciatica, is reported. This is a rare infective disease, which if promptly treated with intravenous antibiotics, can be completely resolved; otherwise, it can result in deep abscess formation, sepsis and death.

  • Objectives : This report intended to estimate effect taken by using Sacro-Occipital Technique on the patient with Herniation of Nucleus Pulposus(Central type). Method : From 11 May, 2005 to 30 June, 2005. The patient recived Sacro-Occipital Technique and Acupuncture therapy. Result : After being hospitalized for 50 days. the patient's Motor Grade, ODI, VAS, ROM were improved each from IV to IV+. from 26 to 20, from 10 to 2, and ROM with flexion/entension, rotation were improved each from 70'/0' to 90'/12', from 30'/40' to 45'/55'. Conclusion : We considered Sacro-Occipital Technique has an useful effect on Herniation of Nucleus Pulposus

  • Objectives: The aim of this study is to notify incidental diagnosis of multiple myeloma during conservative treatment for lumbar disc herniation, caused by right flank pain. Methods: A 45-year-old female came to our hospital for the control of pain caused by lumbar disc hemiation L5-S1. After using Cox technique, she occured right flank pain and found out multiple fracture by bone scan. For further evaluation, she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma with bone marrow biopsy. Results and Conclusions: This case report suggests that clinicians should consider the possibility of multiple myeloma in the case of multiple fracture without trauma.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the disc block subluxation for lumbar scoliosis and herniation of nucleus pulpous (HNP). Methods: We used AP & Lateral view X-ray for patients. And we measured of disc wedge angle, vertebral body rotation to evaluate the typical and atypical disc block subluxation. Results: On the analysis of the lateral view X-ray, 4th lumbar intervertebral disc angle (I.V.D angle) showed $4^{\circ}$, $5^{\circ}$, $3^{\circ}$, $0^{\circ}$ in the cases. On the 4th lumbar analysis of the AP view X-ray, lumbar scoliosis showed right disc wedge angle was $11^{\circ}$ (case 1), $17^{\circ}$ (case 2) and left vertebral body rotation was 13mm, 6mm. Lumbar HNP showed left disc wedge angle was $5^{\circ}$ (case 3), $4^{\circ}$ (case 4) and left vertebral body rotation was 2mm, 4mm. Conclusions: Disc block subluxation has been in lumbar scoliosis, but not been in lumbar HNP.

  • Objective : The aim of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of ShinBaro Pharmacopuncture in the treatment of patients with Lumbar spine Herniated Nucleus Pulposus. Methods : We investigated 20 cases of patients with lumbar disc herniation and devided into two groups. Experimental group were treated with ShinBaro Pharmacopuncture with integrated package treatment and control group were treated the same therapies without ShinBaro Pharmacopuncture. To evaluate the treatment effects of two groups, we used numeric rating scale(NRS), oswestry disability index(ODI). Results : In NRS of lumbar and sciatica pain and ODI, that of experimental group was much more improved than control group, and decrement of NRS of lumbar pain showed statistical significance along with the duration of treatment. Conclusions : ShinBaro Pharmacopuncture was thought to be effective for relieving symptoms of lumbar spine herniated nucleus pulposus, although further study is needed.
