  • Since conventional optimization that is classified as a deterministic method does not consider the uncertainty involved in a modeling or manufacturing process, an optimum design is often determined to be on the boundaries of the feasible region of constraints. Reliability-based design optimization is a method for obtaining a solution by minimizing the objective function while satisfying the reliability constraints. This method includes an optimization process and a reliability analysis that facilitates the quantization of the uncertainties related to design variables. Moment-based reliability analysis is a method for calculating the reliability of a system on the basis of statistical moments. In general, on the basis of these statistical moments, the Pearson system estimates seven types of distributions and determines the reliability of the system. However, it is technically difficult to practically consider the Pearson Type IV distribution. In this study, we propose an enhanced Pearson Type IV distribution based on a kriging model and validate the accuracy of the enhanced Pearson Type IV distribution by comparing it with a Monte Carlo simulation. Finally, reliability-based design optimization is performed for a system with type IV distribution by using the proposed method.

  • MR(Magneto-Rheological) damper generates the magnetic shear force due to the cohesiveness of MR fluid influenced by a magnetic field. MR fluid consists of magnetic particles and a base liquid. In the present study, the damping forces of MR damper were investigated for density 1.3, 1.5 and $1.7g/cm^3$, and viscosity 1000 and 10000cp, and for the change of orifice shapes. It was found that the increase in the density and viscosity of MR fluid could change the damping force of MR damper due to the magnetic effects. Also, the damping forces on orifice shapes increased as the orifice gap and length decreased. These results showed that the properties of MR fluid and orifice shapes were important for the optimum design of MR damper.

  • The objectives of this study were to develope the economical process for bioethanol production from domestic triticale and investigate optimal fermentation conditions such as temperature, time, and enzyme concentration used to pre-treatment process. Triticale mash, containing 148 g of total sugar per 1 L of mash, was fermented with Saccharomyces cerevisiae CHY1011 at $33^{\circ}C$. Fermentation of mash supplemented with enzyme was completed within 48-60 hours, and the ethanol yield was 410.9 L/tonne of dry base. On the other hand, fermentation of mash without enzyme addition was completed within 36-48 hours, but the ethanol yield was 342.2 L/tonne of dry base. For optimal bioethanol production from triticale, viscosity reduction enzyme was added in the pre-treatment process, and the fermentation rate of triticale was 92.0-94.2%. In addition, the results showed that bioethanol production of triticale by low-temperature pre-treatment would provide higher ethanol production efficiency and lower operating costs.

  • 한국천문연구원이 개발한 iRTK(inverted Real Time Kinemtic) 시스템의 성능을 분석하고 개선방향에 대해 논의하였다.

  • The effects of whole wheat flour on the Rheological Properties of dough gassing power of yeast S.cerevisiae and breadmaking properties were studied. The blending ratios of whole wheat flour to bread making flour were 0, 25, 50, 75 and water absorption in the farinography increasedlinerly from 62.5%in 100% bread making flour and 77.5% in 100% whole wheat flour. The hardness and cohesiveness of dough prepared with optimum moisture content was constant regardless of the blending ratio of whole wheat flour. whole wheat flour had no effect on the total gas production or the internal gas content in the dough at a constant moisture level but had detrimental effect on the loaf volume. In a dough at the optimum moisture level, whole wheat flour increased the two former parameters sensory evaluation indicated that the replacement in the range of 25 to 50% with whole wheat flour at the optimum moisture level was acceptable

  • Box-Wilson experimental design method, known as central composite design, is the design of any information-gathering exercises where variation is present. This method was devised to gather as much data as possible in spite of the low design cost. This method was employed to model the effect of mixing factors on several performances of 60 MPa high strength self compacting concrete and to numerically calculate the optimal mix proportion. The nonlinear relations between factors and responses of HSSCC were approximated in the form of second order polynomial equation. In order to characterize five performances like compressive strength, passing ability, segregation resistance, manufacturing cost and density depending on five factors like water-binder ratio, cement content, fine aggregate percentage, fly ash content and superplasticizer content, the experiments were made at the total 52 experimental points composed of 32 factorial points, 10 axial points and 10 center points. The study results showed that Box-Wilson experimental design was really effective in designing the experiments and analyzing the relation between factor and response.

  • Most classification accuracy measures for optimal threshold are divided into two types: one is expressed with cumulative distribution functions and probability density functions, the other is based on ROC curve and AUC. Unal (2017) proposed the index of union (IU) as an accuracy measure that considers two types to get them. In this study, ten kinds of accuracy measures (including IU) are divided into six categories, and the advantages of the IU are studied by comparing the measures belonging to each category. The optimal thresholds of these measures are obtained by setting various normal mixture distributions; subsequently, the first and second type of errors as well as the error sums corresponding to each threshold are calculated. The properties and characteristics of the IU statistic are explored by comparing the discriminative power of other accuracy measures based on error values. The values of the first type error and error sum of IU statistic converge to those of the best accuracy measures of the second category as the mean difference between the two distributions increases. Therefore, IU could be an accuracy measure to evaluate the discriminant power of a model.

  • Structural optimization design has been developed with finite element analysis using effective and fast computational technology. Especially topology optimization design has been recently often used since it yields an optimal topology as well as an optimal shape under satisfied constraints. In general in finite element analysis, it is assumed that the structural material properties such as Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio and the variable of applied loading are fixed with obvious values in structure. However practically these values may take uncertainties because of environmental effect or manufactural error of structures. Therefore static or dynamic analysis of the structures may make an error, then finally it may have an influence on qualify of optimal design. In this study, the topology optimization design of structure is carried out using so called the interval finite element method, and the analysis method Is proposed. The results are also validated by comparing with conventional topology optimization results of density distribution method and finite element analysis results. The present method can be used to predict the optimal topology of linear elastostatic structures with respect to structural uncertainty of behavior.

  • In this paper, based on an isogeometric approach, we have developed a shape design optimization method for plane elasticity problems subjected to design-dependent loads. The conventional shape optimization using the finite element method has some difficulties in the parameterization of geometry. In an isogeometric analysis, however, the geometric properties are already embedded in the B-spline basis functions and control points so that it has potential capability to overcome the aforementioned difficulties. The solution space for the response analysis can be represented in terms of the same NURBS basis functions to represent the geometry, which yields a precise analysis model that exactly represents the normal and curvature depending on the applied loads. A continuum-based isogeometric adjoint sensitivity is extensively derived for the plane elasticity problems under the design-dependent loads. Through some numerical examples, the developed isogeometric sensitivity analysis method is verified to show excellent agreement with finite difference sensitivity.
