  • A great variety of handheld device are coming onto the market. Some have advanced features compacted into very small sized hardware. In order to maximize the capability of these devices, we need to understand the characteristics of different input methods and utilize them in a sufficient way. Our study aims to understand characteristics of each device, so that we can design user interfaces more effectively. Two experiments were conducted to compare target pointing performance with a pen and with a hardware key on small displays. In experiment 1, we examined participants' performance of target pointing with both input methods at different target sizes. It was found that pen operation is more erroneous than key based operation when target size is smaller than 5mm, but at a target size of 5mm, the error rate decreased to the same level as for key input. In experiment 2, we examined the effect of the number of targets. The results showed, with a target size of 5mm, the pen could point to targets quicker than with key input, when the distance to the target exeeds a path length of 3 steps.

  • This study aims to explore the formativeness of 3D printed parametric fashion products while parametric design-based 3D printed fashion products are increasing. As a research method, theoretical review was conducted and formative properties of 3D printing parametric fashion products were derived, and cases of 3D printing parametric fashion products were collected and examined into three types of clothing, shoes, and accessories. As a result of the study, it was possible to confirm the shape with the motif of a natural object, and structurally, the economical optimal structure, assembly structure, and natural structure were confirmed. was found to use natural and achromatic colors. Through the understanding of the formativeness of 3D printing parametric fashion products presented in this study, it is expected that it will be used as basic data to understand the spread and formative flow of parametric-based fashion products.

  • In recent years, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) have been developed for both military and civilian activities in regions where the presence of onboard human pilots is risky or not necessary. However, UAV require a high demand of power to achieve its missions such as taking images/videos in a certain area or surveillance activities. Therefore, this situation triggers the need of techniques to reduce power consumption for UAV to complete its mission safely. One of the methods is to use a waypoint optimization procedure which deals with a pre-specified set of waypoints to find a minimum route to fly through those waypoints in order to reduce power consumption. In this paper, due to the UAV's multidisciplinary which makes it impossible to be represented as an analytical model, we design a simulation model of UAV using MATLAB Simulink and AeroSim Blockset, an analysis package in aerospace industry. The simulation model is then coupled with optimization algorithms along with a set of waypoints (flight path) in order to measure at which percentage power consumption can be minimized for UAV.

  • This paper investigates how many optimal routes can be established in terms of a given wireless mesh routing metric. Although many of routing metrics have been devised to precisely derive the wireless link quality in mesh, most (if not all) metrics have not been evaluated their optimality along with routing protocols. We consider stateof-the-art routing metrics and a widely accepted routing protocol in order to observe the optimality of established routes varying the number of source nodes. Also, we propose a unidirectional routing to deal with possible link asymmetry feature in wireless links. Through comparative simulation evaluations, we show that the portion of optimally established routes becomes less as the network traffic load increases, regardless of employed metrics, network topologies, and routing protocols.

  • This study was conducted to identify the optimal lotion manufacturing conditions with decursin and decursinol angelate of Angelica gigas Nakai extraction. Lotion was confirmed that it had viscosity (5,208±112 cPs), assay (99.71±1.01%), and pH (5.62) for 3 months. The optimization of manufacturing conditions of mixing 4 for lotion formulation were made by 22+3 full factorial design. Mixing temperature (40-80℃) and mixing time (10-30 min) were used as independent variables with three responses(assay, pH, and weight variation) as critical quality attributes (CQAs). The model for assay and weight variation identified a proper fit having a determination coefficient of the regression equation (about 0.9) and a p-value less than 0.05. Estimated conditions for the optimal manufacturing process of lotion were 61.93℃ in mixing temperature and 15.85 min in mixing time. Predicted values at the mixing temperature (60℃) and mixing time (20 min) were 100.69% of assay, 5.57 of pH, and 98.07% of weight variation. In the verification of the actual measurement the obtained values showed 100.29±0.98% of assay, 5.57±0.02 of pH, and 98.27±0.89% of weight variation, respectively, in good agreement with predicted values.

  • Singular value decomposition (SVD) has been widely used to identify unique features from a data set in various fields. However, a complex matrix calculation of SVD requires tremendous computation time. This paper improves the performance of a representative one-sided block Jacoby algorithm using a two-dimensional (2D) multi-core system. In addition, this paper explores an optimal multi-core system by varying the number of processing elements in the 2D multi-core system with the same 400MHz clock frequency and TSMC 28nm technology for each matrix-based one-sided block Jacoby algorithm ($128{\times}128$, $64{\times}64$, $32{\times}32$, $16{\times}16$). Moreover, this paper demonstrates the potential of the 2D multi-core system for the one-sided block Jacoby algorithm by comparing the performance of the multi-core system with a commercial high-performance graphics processing unit (GPU).

  • In this study, we developed cosmetic container's volume index to compare the packaging volumes of fundamental cosmetic types. Over 250 cosmetics used for this study were collected in Korean market. The written content volume and the outer volume of packaging were analyzed to establish volume index (Lcos) and a design guideline for cosmetic container. The allowable ranges, such as maximum, acceptable, and optimum ranges in the design process, were also determined using Lcos. About 37% of cosmetics were in optimum or acceptable ranges. A 15% of cosmetic packages was in maximum range for reducing their volumes. This cosmetic container's volume index may be a useful tool as a design guideline for cosmetic packaging development.

  • A design collaboration system for a plant project is a set of complicated multidisciplinary processes in which a large number of various engineering fields are involved. Each subsystem is related to each other as they depend on information that other subsystems create, which leads to inefficient design iterations. This study presents an optimal design collaboration system for a plant project using Design Structure Matrix (DSM). Data regarding design subsystems, parameters, etc. were obtained by expert surveys and workshops. An automatic analysis program for DSM was developed using Visual Basic Application and Matlab to provide a partitioned DSM. A case study was conducted on a furnace project; consequently, the optimal design collaboration system with five crucial iteration groups was derived.

  • A development proposal that maximizes the trend of travel souvenir and articles toward tourism and natural resources through utilization of the Limited Production method was the focus of the present research. First, the flaws of travel souvenir and articles, currently produced in Inje, Kangwon-Do, were identified, as were the regional uniqueness of the area. The comparative advantages of developmental conditions of the above-specified region to various other Si/Kun regions were demonstrated to ascertain the optimal production method of travel souvenir and articles. The results are as follows. Superior supply of,7aw materials necessary for production of wood-worked travel souvenir and articles are abundantly available and the dose proximity of 17 existing workshops self-contain the production capacity to sustain the Limited Production method. Furthermore, the regional governing council conveyed positive attitudes towards the prospect of creating a regional production complex of wood-worked travel souvenir and articles. The results demonstrate that the optimal method of maximizing the trend of travel souvenir and articles toward tourism and natural resources is achieved through systematic collaboration of industry, education, and tourism that promote development, production, and merchandising of Inje's regional travel souvenir and articles.
