In this study, a series of batch-scale tests were conducted to optimize the design parameters for the application of soil washing techniques to the hydrophobic organic compounds(HOCs)-contaminated soil and to find the effective methods for the recovery of surfactants from washing effluent by using solvent. Several nonionic surfactants (polyoxyethylene oleyl ester) and sophorolipid were applied to the artificially contaminated soil (4,000 mg n-dodecane/kg dry soil). The effects of washing time, concentration of surfactant solution, dilution ratio, and temperature on washing efficiencies were examined. Hydrophile-liphophile balance (HLB) number was proven to be one of the important parameters for soil washing. The HLB numbers of OA-5 and sophorolipid are too low to form a stable soil-water emulsion. They showed very low washing efficiencies less than 10e1o. If HLB number is in the proper range to form a stable soil-water emulsion, surfactant having higher solubility for HOCs shows higher washing efficiency. OA-14 having higher HLB number than OA-9 formed more stable soil-water emulsion. But its washing efficiency was about 20% due to a lower molar solubility ratio (MSR) than OA-9. OA-9, which forms a stable soil-water emulsion and has comparatively high sotubility for HOCs, showed about 60% washing efficiency by itself. To recover anthracene effectively from OA-9 washing effluent by using benzene as an organic solvent, desirable temperature and pH were $30^{\circ}C$ and 2, respectively.
CMDS (Coal Mine Drainage Sludge) is mainly generated from acid mine drainage during physicochemical treatment or electrical purification. CMDS is well worth considering on recycling possibilities in various areas. This research applies the liner and cover materials using waste disposal landfill generally to treat acid mine drainage sludge. In this Part I of the two parts paper, physico-chemical characteristics of CMDS, bentonite and cement to prepare the liner have been identified using XRD, XRF, FESEM. In addition, combining their physicochemical characteristics, the optimum mixing ratio has been determined to be 1: 0.5: 0.3 for CMDS: bentonite: cement by the batch tests. Initial permeability of CMDS was $7.10{\times}10^{-7}cm/s$. Through the leaching test, it was confirmed that its mixture was environmentally safe. In the Part 2, a large-scale Lysimeter was used to simulate the effects of the layer on the freeze/thaw for evaluation on field applicability and stability.

This study was conducted to develop the disinfection system using electric shock for recycled nutrient solution in recycling soilless culture. Stainless steel (SUS 316) was found as the most appropriate electrode material for electrical disinfection system from the view of high electrical conductivity, low electric resistance, and low price. There were no changes in nutritional elements when the electric shock passed through the nutrient solution by stainless steel electrode. The amount of electric current increased with width than thickness of the electrode. The farther the distance between the electrodes was increased the time to reach out the aimed amount of current. The electric shock was applied to Ralstonia solanacearum and Fusarium oxysporum as representative bacteria and also fungi. Any of those pathogens were killed with the percentage of higher than 97% in the condition of 15VDC or 24VDC.
In order to obtain scientific information for the conservation of Utricularia japonica Makino, rare plant species, we investigated life history, phenology, growth and distribution in the east coastal region of Korea. Seven habitats of U. japonica were confirmed in this study. Turion of U. japonica rests overwinter at the bottom and ripens at the water surface and then usually germinate and sprout when the water warms in spring. A single shoot grown from turion divided into several shoots. Shoot decomposition started in October and formed a new turion at the end of the decomposed shoot. Flowering period was from early July to late October. Percentage of flowering ramets was significantly low as 6.3%. U. japonica showed the fastest growth rate from April to July, the maximum growth in August and the highest biomass in October. U. japonica tended to be concentrated in larger ramets in the water depth of 50 cm~150 cm in Cheonjin lake. The main factors affecting the growth of U. japonica were water temperature and turbidity. The establishment and growth of U. japonica in Cheonjin lake were determined by responses to water temperature with seasonal change and to light conditions caused by the different plants. These conditions affect the temporal and spatial distribution of U. japonica and population change. The findings of this study would be helpful to provide the basic information needed for the conservation and restoration of U. japonica.
These experiments were conducted to evaluate the efficiency of the color removal treatment system of pig wastewater by $TiO_2$. The results obtained are summarized as follow : 1 The color removal efficiency of effluent of activated sludge process by $TiO_2$ level were 59.7 and 52.5% for 1.0 and 2.0g/$\ell$ at 360 minute of operation time, respectively. 2. The color of pig wastewater was changed from 655 color unit(cu) to 146cu of the wastewater treatment of pH 5 at 300 minute of operation time. 3. The $H_2O_2$ level for color removal showed at 200mg/$\ell$ and in that level, the color removal efficiency was 52.5%. 4. The color removal efficiency of 365nm UV intensity was 29.4%, but 254nm of UV intensity was higher(50.1%) than 365nm for color removal.
Probiotic functional foods are known to have various functional effects such as intestinal regulation, modulation of immune system, reduction of allergies, and lowering of cholesterol. The purpose of this study was to select probiotic strain that is most suitable for freeze-dried coffee for the development of functional coffee products. The survival rate of probiotics, at drinking condition of coffee, at acid, at bile and after freeze-dried in coffee were measured on 1 strain isolated from commercial freeze-dried coffee, 8 strains used as fermented milk starter, 1 Bifidobacterium and 1 Bacillus coagulans. Bacillus coagulans showed the highest survival rate from $2.4{\times}10^7cfu/g$ to $2.0{\times}10^7cfu/g$ especially after freeze-drying. The results at drinking condition of coffee, at acid tolerance, at bile tolerance and at storage test showed significantly better survival rate of Bacillus coagulans than that of control (Lactobacillus casei). Especially, Bacillus coagulans showed 3.8-fold higher survival rate at acid tolerance (pH 1, 120 minutes) than control. Thus, the lactic acid-producing Bacillus coagulans is characterized as a probiotic strain suitable for functional coffee formulation and commercialization.
This study was conducted to develop more convenient simultaneous determination method by matrix solid phase dispersion (MSPD) and HPLC for sulfonamides such as sulfamerazine (SMR), sulfamethazine (SMT), sulfamonomethoxine (SMM), sulfadimethoxine (SDM), sulfaquinoxaline (SQX), and tetracyclines including oxytetracycline (OTC), tetracycline (TC) chlortetracycline (CTC) in prok and flatfish. The limits of detection were 0.047 $mg{\cdot}kg^{-1}$ for OTC, TC, SMR, SMT and SMM, and 0.033 $mg{\cdot}kg^{-1}$ for CTC, SDM, and SQX, respectively. So it is sufficiently possible to detect the eight tetracyclines and sulfonamides under their MRLs ($0.1{\sim}0.2mg{\cdot}kg^{-1}$). The average percentage recoveries of sulfonamides and tetracyclines from pig muscle and flatfish spiked standard solution were approximately $80.25{\sim}101.25%$ and $85.77{\sim}121.42%$, respectively. Therefore this method was efficient for simultaneous analysis of eight tetracyclines and sulfonamides.

BACKGROUND: An analytical method was developed using HPLC-UVD/MS to precisely determine the residue of flusulfamide, a benzenesulfonamide fungicide used to inhibit spore germination. METHODS AND RESULTS: Flusulfamide residue was extracted with acetone from representative samples of five raw products which comprised apple, green pepper, Kimchi cabbage, hulled rice, and soybean. The extract was diluted with large volume of saline water and directly partitioned into dichloromethane to remove polar co-extractives in the aqueous phase. For the hulled rice and soybean samples, n-hexane/acetonitrile partition was additionally employed to remove non-polar lipids. The extract was finally purified by optimized Florisil column chromatography. On an octadecylsilyl column in HPLC, flusulfamide was successfully separated from co-extractives of sample, and sensitively quantitated by ultraviolet absorption at 280 nm with no interference. Accuracy and precision of the proposed method was validated by the recovery experiment on every crop sample fortified with flusulfamide at 3 concentration levels per crop in each triplication. CONCLUSION: Mean recoveries ranged from 82.3 to 98.2% in five representative agricultural commodities. The coefficients of variation were all less than 10%, irrespective of sample types and fortification levels. Limit of quantitation (LOQ) of flusulfamide was 0.02 mg/kg as verified by the recovery experiment. A confirmatory method using LC/MS with selected-ion monitoring technique was also provided to clearly identify the suspected residue.
Global warming crisis due primarily to continued green house gas emission requires impending change to renewable alternative energy than continuously depending on exhausting fossil fuels. Bioenergy including biodiesel and bioethanol are considered good alternatives because of their renewable and sustainable nature. Bioethanol is currently being produced by using sucrose from sugar beet, grain starches or lignocellulosic biomass as sources of ethanol fermentation. However, grain production requires significant amount of fossil fuel inputs during agricultural practices, which means less competitive in reducing the level of green house gas emission. By contrast, cellulosic bioethanol can use naturally-growing, not-for-food biomass as a source of ethanol fermentation. In this respect, cellulosic ethanol than grain starch ethanol is considered a more appropriate as a alternative renewable energy. However, commercialization of cellulosic ethanol depends heavily on technology development. Processes such as securing enough biomass optimized for economic processing, pretreatment technology for better access of polymer-hydrolyzing enzymes, saccharification of recalcitrant lignocellulosic materials, and simultaneous fermentation of different sugars including 6-carbon glucose as well as 5-carbon xylose or arabinose waits for greater improvement in technologies. Although it seems to be a long way to go until commercialization, it should broadly benefit farmers with novel source of income, environment with greener and reduced level of global warming, and national economy with increased energy security. Mission-oriented strategies for cellulosic ethanol development participated by government funding agency and different disciplines of sciences and technologies should certainly open up a new era of renewable energy.

At the computer games, we can experience a variety of environments using a virtual object. It is similar to that be trained in War-game simulator of the defense. Actual soldiers and a computer-generated virtual group(Computer Generated Force: CGF) in 3-D virtual battlefield environment are training. However, path finding algorithm, one of the techniques of simulation models, to the current level only considers the shortest time path. So, this current level at the special situation of the army in the battlefield for selecting the optimal path is limited. The focus of this paper is to select the least-cost path using the deadline with several different mission conditions(METT+TC). For the only shortest time path algorithm and the least-cost path algorithm using dealine,($d_t$, one of METT+TC elements), Its usefulness is verifying the change of the move spent time(t) for all possible paths and the fighting power of the combat troops(Troops ability, a) through a comparison of the total cost of moves(c(t)). According to the results, when considering the deadline, the proposed algorithm saves about 62.5% of the maximum cost.
