  • Conventionally, in order to get accurate geolocation of satellite images we need a set of ground control points with respect to individual scenes. In this paper, we tested the possibilities of modeling satellite orbits from individual scenes by establishing a sensor model for one scene and by applying the model, which was derived from the same orbital segment, to other scenes that has been acquired from the same orbital segment. We investigated orbit-attitude models with several interpolation methods and with various parameter sets to be adjusted. We used 7 satellite images of SPOT-3 with a length of 420km and ground control points acquired from GPS surveying. Results of the conventional individual scene modeling hardly introduced differences among different interpolation methods and different adjustment parameter sets. As the results of orbit modeling, the best model was the one with Lagrange interpolation for position/velocity and linear interpolation for attitude and with position/angle bias as parameter sets. The best model showed that it is possible to model orbital segments of 420km with ground control points measured within one scene (60km).

  • The purpose of this study is the suggestion of optimized parameters in OI (Optimal Interpolation) by experimental study. The observation of applying optimal interpolation is ADCP (Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler) data at the southwestern sea of Korea. FVCOM (Finite Volume Coastal Ocean Model) is used for the barotropic model. OI is to the estimation of the gain matrix by a minimum value between the background error covariance and the observation error covariance using the least square method. The scaling factor and correlation radius are very important parameters for OI. It is used to calculate the weight between observation data and model data in the model domain. The optimized parameters from the experiments were found by the Taylor diagram. Constantly each observation point requires optimizing each parameter for the best assimilation. Also, a high accuracy of numerical model means background error covariance is low and then it can decrease all of the parameters in OI. In conclusion, it is expected to have prepared the foundation for research for the selection of ocean observation points and the construction of ocean prediction systems in the future.

  • LMTT (Linear Motor-based Transfer Techn-ology) is a horizontal transfer system for the yard automation This system is based on PMLSM (Permanent Magnetic Linear Synchronous Motor) toot consists of stator modules on the rail and shuttle car. In this research, the kriging interpolation method with sequential sampling find the optimum design of mover in LMTT. The design variables are considered as the transverse, longitudinal and wheel beam's thicknesses. The objective function is set up as weight, while the constant function are set up as the stresses generated by four loading conditions. The objective function is set up as weight. The optimum results obtained by the suggested method are compared with those by the GENESIS.

  • Impacts of Sea Surface Temperature (SST) assimilation to the prediction of upper ocean temperature is investigated by using a regional ocean forecasting system, in which 3-dimensional optimal interpolation is applied. In the present study, Sea Surface Temperature and Sea Ice Analysis (OSTIA) dataset is adopted for the daily SST assimilation. This study mainly compares two experimental results with (Exp. DA) and without data assimilation (Exp. NoDA). When comparing both results with OSTIA SST data during Sept. 2011, Exp. NoDA shows Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of about $1.5^{\circ}C$ at 24, 48, 72 forecast hour. On the other hand, Exp. DA yields the relatively lower RMSE of below $0.8^{\circ}C$ at all forecast hour. In particular, RMSE from Exp. DA reaches $0.57^{\circ}C$ at 24 forecast hour, indicating that the assimilation of daily SST (i.e., OSTIA) improves the performance in the early SST prediction. Furthermore, reduction ratio of RMSE in the Exp. DA reaches over 60% in the Yellow and East seas. In order to examine impacts in the shallow costal region, the SST measured by eight moored buoys around Korean peninsula is compared with both experiments. Exp. DA reveals reduction ratio of RMSE over 70% in all season except for summer, showing the contribution of OSTIA assimilation to the short-range prediction in the coastal region. In addition, the effect of SST assimilation in the upper ocean temperature is examined by the comparison with Argo data in the East Sea. The comparison shows that RMSE from Exp. DA is reduced by $1.5^{\circ}C$ up to 100 m depth in winter where vertical mixing is strong. Thus, SST assimilation is found to be efficient also in the upper ocean prediction. However, the temperature below the mixed layer in winter reveals larger difference in Exp. DA, implying that SST assimilation has still a limitation to the prediction of ocean interior.
