  • The study is to perform numerical analysis of train fire characteristics in an underground subway tunnel, depending the different locations of ventilation facility. To study the characteristics of train fire, two kinds of worst-case scenarios are selected, based on escape distance, escape time, and fire zone, and trends and thermal environments of tunnel are analyzed by changing the locations of ventilation facility for times. Fire characteristics is calculated by using FLUENT v.6.3.26, and turbulent flow is calculated by using the standard k-${\varepsilon}$ model. The numerical results show distribution of carbon monoxide concentration, temperature, and velocity. The results of this study will contribute to building the most suitable ventilation systems when designing subway stations and tunnels.

  • The Very Large Marine Structure has been widely used new method of ocean space instead of method for reclamation Therefore, VLFS is proposed to coincide on such request. It can be established regardless of nature of soil and height of water, and stream of flow exists under the floating structure, there is seldom effect in natural environment. Fuertherrnore, it can do easily to do assembly and taking to pieces due to expansion or removal. Based on the regulation by class, VLFS have to possess more than enough structural strength against severe wave loading induced by green sea condition Therefore, There are performed structural simulation as well as experimental test about expected loading scenario in order to examine the safety of structure. Up to now, various examinations based on the strength limit value of the main structural material have been done based on the elasticity response analysis. However, there is little finding about the collapse behavior and the safety when the load that exceeds the collapse of the material acts. In the present study, we investigated the collapse behavior based on the ultimate limit state calculated by FE-analysis.

  • All circuits in power input can only use the power provided by an external power supply. General electronic circuits use a secondary supply generated by a converter using a primary power in the power input. But protection and detection circuit for over-voltage circuit or under-voltage in power input have to use that input power because there is no other supply in power input. Therefore, previous electronics for satellite can protect only over-voltage using a zener diode, and can't detect over-voltage and under-voltage events, and provide a detection capability for over-voltage and under-voltage only for secondary supply. The proposed circuit can detect over-voltage and under-voltage using a single supply for the primary power input, +28V, with the threshold characteristics for MOS-FET, and the accuracy for a detection circuit is increased by 2.5%.

  • In the space environment, many other things to design electronic circuits should be considered with respect to commercial circuit design. The first thing is that electronics in space are likely to be exposed to radiation effects and the second thing is that it is impossible to repair or replace electronic parts after once spacecraft was launched. In this severe situation, very strict and tight worst case analysis conditions should be applied to the electronics in space environment to do its own function well without any problems during the overall mission period. So this paper summarizes worst case input conditions and methods which are specified in the ESA Worst Case Analysis Specification (ECSS-Q-30-01A) and proposes the results of Worst Case Analysis for one simple electronic circuit which is implemented at a real On-Board Computer in the Low Earth Orbit Satellite.

  • In this paper, we examine Ethernet based vehicle network which is recently emerging technology. Current MOST for entertainment will be soon replaced with the emerging Ethernet based vehicle network. Although legacy standard Ethernet has several advantages it is not suitable for vehicle backbone network without any modification. As a result, many researches are happening on extending and modification of the Ethernet function for realtime and reliability. Time-triggered Ethernet, one of many trials known as AS6802, is investigated on the architecture and functionalities. We design the traffic model on Time-triggered Ethernet and analyse the latency of the network. We also consider the QoS requirement and environment of operating configuration for vehicle network.

  • Thermal control of satellite propellant tank is achieved by patch heaters enabled by thermostat's behavior. It is important to attach the thermostat on the appropriate position of the propellant tank. However its position cannot be given with exact numerics because tank is spherical. In practice, the thermostat position is designated approximately in a relevant drawing approximately, thereby an engineer practices depending on his own experience and intuition. The sensitivity analysis for the position of thermostat is performed such that the influence on the thermal behavior and control of tank is examined quantatively. When assembling tank module, the reasonable performance on the thermal control is believed with possible human errors if the uncertainty in the position of thermostat is not quite large.

  • Future satellite communication systems will be developed at Ka-band (20/30 GHz) owing to the relatively wide frequency allocation and current freedom from terrestrial interference for multimedia services. A serious disadvantage of the Ka-band, however, is the very high atmospheric attenuation in rainy weather. Synchronous CDMA drastically redces the effect of self-noise with several interesting features of CDMA for mobile communications such as fixible freuqncy rese, the capability of performin soft-handover and a lower sensitivity to interference. This paper evaluates the performance of a synchronous CDMA reture link for a Ka-band geostationary satellite communication system. For a fixed satellite channel whose characteristics depend on weather conditions, the signal envelope and phase for this channel is modelled as Gaussian. The bit error and outage probability, and the detection loss due to imperfect chip timing synchronization is analytically evaluated and the system capacity degaradation due to the weather condition is estimated. The two cases consist of the general case in which all users are affected by rain condition, and the worst case in which the reference user is only affected by rain attenuation. the results for two cases of rain condition clearly show that synchronous CDMA eases the power control requirements and has less sensitivity to imperfect power control.

  • In this study, using the FDS as the fire simulation and evacuation simulations of the Pathfinder, set the main control room of the building to the fire point fire safety assessment studies were carried out. At first the quantitative result such as distribution of visibility as time passing, distribution of temperature, distribution of CO density produced results using fire-simulation and evacuation-simulation was carried out based on the result that produced the final safety evaluation result as being calculated of evacuation time. As the risk increased with the distribution of visibility at the result of fire-simulation, evacuation-simulation was carried out using the result. Finally the result was made 127.9 sec that everyone could evacuate. The numerical results are analyzed in case of the places in the building required safe egress time for safety a as the analysis to be no more than available safe egress time was analyzed to be secured. The results of this safety evaluation represent that more smooth evacuation safety performance can be secured by linking the event of fire firefighting equipment as a result of simulating the worst conditions.

  • There has been an increase in the public concern about possible health risks by electromagnetic exposure from mobile phones. Recently, several SAR measurement procedures have been proposed to demonstrate the compliance of mobile phone with safety limits. To determine the maximum localized SAR of a test mobile phone, the electric field distribution is measured in the head phantom with simulated tissue liquid using the probe The important parameters in SAR measurement are the E-field probe, the shape and size of phantom, the electrical parameters of simulated tissue liquid, and test position, etc. Therefore, in order to setup the measurement standard, the studies on these factors are required. In this paper, the effects of the maximum localized SAR on the test positions of mobile phones were analyzed by the numerical computation and the SAR measurement. From the results, the worst condition of commonly used positions was determined and the touch and tilted positions were adopted as test positions of the domestic SAR measurement standard.

  • STEP Cube Lab-II (Cube Laboratory for Space Technology Experimental Project-II) is a 6U Cube satellite equipped with optical and infrared cameras for monitoring Mt. Paektu volcanic eruption signs and earth observation in the Korean peninsula. To guarantee successful mission operation of the cube satellite in orbit, thermal design is essential for the electronic equipment, and must be kept within the allowable temperature range during the mission period. Thus, it is necessary to analyze the predictable orbital thermal environment. The STEP Cube Lab-II is launched through the KSLV-II, however, the operation orbit has not been determined due to the unknown launch time. In this study, we performed a thermal analysis of the satellite and investigated the heat flux according to launch time to analyze the worst orbital conditions that could occur.
