  • Making use of SN steel in the building structure should be a prerequisite to adopt the design strength of said steel. As a preceding study, the material properties of STKN400B/490B tubes and SPAP235/325 and SPAR295 square pipes manufactured using SN400B/490B plates were evaluated. Compared with the yield and ultimate strengths of SN400B/490B plates, those of STKN400B/490B tubes increase. Nonetheless, the yield and ultimate strengths of STKN400B/490B tubes satisfied the design codes of STKN400B/490B tubes even though the tubes were fabricated via roll bending or press forming. On the other hand, the yield and ultimate strengths at the edges of SPAP235/325 square pipes did not satisfy the design codes based on the values at the sides. The maximum tensile and compressive residual stresses at the SN490B tube were equal to and 40% of the yield strength of the SN490B plate, respectively, In the case of the SPAP325 square pipe, both the maximum tensile and compressive residual stresses were 80% of the yield strength of the SN490B plate. The axial compressive loaded column test results snowed that the buckling strengths were not very different regardless of the mode of fabrication of STKN490B tunes. i.e., through roll bending or press forming. On the other hand, the buckling strength of the SPAP325 square pipe was higher than that of the built-up square pipe.

  • Modern people are investing a lot of time and economically in their appearance as a means of expressing their aesthetic desires. They have a lot of hair dyes that make up most of their appearance, but their hair damage is serious. Especially, they use hair dyes which are very popular among the hair cosmetics that make up most of their appearance, but their hair damage is serious. The purpose of this study is to investigate the hair tensile strength of hair with oxidative hair dye to induce styling while minimizing hair damage. The results showed that the Max. load, Max. stress, Max. elongation, break load, break stress, break elongation, maximum modulus and tangential modulus according to evaluation interval were significantly different between control and 8N-10N experimental groups. The maximum modulus and tangential modulus for the strain interval did not show tendency to increase or decrease constantly, although there was a difference between the control and experimental group. Therefore this study was conducted to investigate the correlation between hair loss and hair damage through the treatment of high grade oxidative hair dye, which is widely used in ield of industry. We want to provide application data.

  • In this study, direct tension test for hybrid steel fiber reinforced ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) containing two different steel fibers with a length of 16 and 19 mm was performed to investigate the fracture behavior of UHPC. Test results showed that crack strength and tensile strength, and fracture energy increased with increasing the fiber volume ratio. Based on the test results, the peak cohesive stress at the crack tip, tensile strength, and fracture energy depending on the fiber volume ratio were proposed. The proposed tensile strength of UHPC was suggested as a function of the fiber volume ratio and compressive strength. The peak cohesive stress at the crack tip and fracture energy were also proposed as a function of the tensile strength. The predicted values were relatively agree well with the test results. Thus, the proposed equations is expected to be applicable to UHPC with a compressive strength of 140~170 MPa and a fiber volume ratio of less than 2%.

  • The effect of unreactive coupling agent on mechanical and thermal properties of talc-filled polypropylene (PP) composites was studied. Stearic and oleic acids were introduced as coupling agents, and tensile, flexural, and impact strength, thermal stability and melting transition temperature were measured and analyzed according to the types and concentration of coupling agents. Tensile and flexural strength were enhanced by introduction of coupling agent and the maximum effect was observed at the concentration of 3 wt% of coupling agent. Tensile and flexural strength of PP treated with oleic acid were higher than those of PP treated with stearic acid. but impact strength vice-versa. The reasons for these results were postulated by analyzing morphologies of talc-filled PP observed by SEM.

  • This research was attempted as one of studies on the strength of mortar added admixtures at different curing temperatures. Variations of curing temperature to. test compressive strength, tensil strength and bending strength were $20^{\circ}C$, $30^{\circ}C$ and $35^{\circ}C$ and these results were summarized as follow : In strength of mortar added briquette ash, the compressive strength was increased: 1.58 percent, the tensile strength 0.96 percent, and the bending strength 1.26 percent compared with standard strength, by increasing one degree of celsius temperature. Also in strength of mortar added fly ash, the compressive strength increased on the average 1.3 percent, the tensile strength 0.99 percent, and the bending strength 1.18 percent at the above conditions. In case of using fly ash as admixture, maximum compressive strengths was attained at the level of 25 percent of fly ash, maximum tensile strength at the level of 20 percent of fly ash, and maximum bending strength at the level of 20 percent of fly ash. In case of using briquette ash, maximum compressive strength was attained maximum strength at 20 percent of the admixture, maximum tensile strength at the level of 15 to 20 percent of admixture and maximum bending strength at the level of 20 percent of admixture. Although addition of briquette ash was less effective in increasing the strength compared with the addition of fly ash, briquette ash might be used as one of admixtures because the control of curing temperature might affect in getting the required practical strength.

  • In this paper, to investigate the influence of installation damage, a variety of full-scale field installation tests with 15 geosynthetics reinforcements and fill materials of various grain size distribution have been performed. The full-scale field installation test was conducted with reference to the FHWA (2009) guidelines. The tensile strength tests were performed by sampling up to 20 specimens randomly from the excavated geosynthetics reinforcements after compaction of fill material, and the degree of decrease in tensile strength of reinforcements due to compaction was analyzed based on the experiment results. It was found that the degree of tensile strength reduction of geosynthetics reinforcements due to the compaction of fill material is greatly influenced by the type of reinforcement and the maximum diameter of fill material. In addition, it was found that the strength reduction ratio of PET geogrid (PVC coating) with relatively small stiffness was greatest, and that the larger the maximum grain size of the fill material, the greater the strength reduction ratio. And also, a more reasonable evaluation method for the installation damage reduction factor of geosynthetics reinforcements is proposed based on the results of full-scale field installation tests in present study and the existing test results.

  • This study is to evaluate the effect of admixtures such as blast-furnace slag and fly ash on adhesion in flexure and tension of polymer cement mortar(PCM) using SAE emulsion. The test specimens are prepared with five polymer-cement ratios and five admixture contents, and tested for flexural strength, adhesion in flexure, tensile strength and adhesion in tension. Based on the test results, no improvement of flexural strength and adhesion in flexure caused by admixtures in PCM can be indicated, but the tensile strength and adhesion in tension is improved due to mixing of the admixtures. In particular, the maximum of adhesion in tension of PCM with P/C 20% and BF content of 10% is 3.35MPa which is about 2.36 times higher than that of ordinary cement mortar, and 1.32 times that of PCM that does not contain any admixture. The average ratio of adhesion in tension to tensile strength of PCM was 48.7%. It is apparent that admixture contents of 5% or 10% could be proposed for improvement of tensile strength and adhesion in tension of PCM.

  • Underground structures such as a tunnel have been considered as safer than structures on the ground during earthquake. However, severe damages of underground structures occurred at subway tunnel during 1995 Kobe Earthquake and such damages are gradually increased. In this study, a dynamic behavior of a cut and cover tunnel surrounded by weathered soils is investigated using Mohr-Coulomb Model. Parametric study was carried out for boundary conditions, tensile strength, and earthquake magnitudes. The results of numerical analyses in terms of ground deformations and stresses acting on the lining were quite dependent on the side boundary condition (free or fix conditions) and tensile strength of surrounding soils. The ground was deformed upward at the end of earthquake when the side boundary condition was fixed, whereas residual deformations were not predicted when it was free. When the tensile strength of a soil was set to the same as its cohesion, residual deformation was less than 1cm, regardless of side boundary conditions or input accelerations. In addition to that, stress conditions at the maximum deformation and end of earthquake were within an allowable range and considered as safe. Proper boundary conditions and material properties such as tensile strength are quite important because they may significantly impact on the results of dynamic analyses.

  • Tensile strength of CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer) is approximately 10 times higher than that of the steel reinforcement, but the design strength of CFRP is normally limited by unpredictable bond failure between RC and CFRP. Many researches concerned with bond behavior between RC and CFRP have been carried out to prevent the bond failure of RC beam strengthened by CFRP, but the national design code for design bond strength of CFRP has not been constructed. In this study, three beam specimens strengthened by CFRP under the parameters of bonded length were tested to derive the design bond strength of CFRP for the RC flexural members. Each bonded length was calculated based on the bond strength of JCI and CFRP manufacturing company. Also, another two beam specimens strengthened by CFRP were tested to inspect the construction environment effects such as mixing error of epoxy resin, and the amount of epoxy primer. From the test results, it is concluded that the maximum design bond strength of CFRP to RC flexural member is considered to be $\tau$a =8 kgf/㎠.
