  • This paper present box feature estimation from LiDAR point cluster using maximum likelihood Method. Previous LiDAR tracking method for autonomous driving shows high accuracy about velocity and heading of point cluster. However, Assuming the average position of a point cluster as the vehicle position has a lower accuracy than ground truth. Therefore, the box feature estimation algorithm to improve position accuracy of autonomous driving perception consists of two procedures. Firstly, proposed algorithm calculates vehicle candidate position based on relative position of point cluster. Secondly, to reflect the features of the point cluster in estimation, the likelihood of the particle scattered around the candidate position is used. The proposed estimation method has been implemented in robot operating system (ROS) environment, and investigated via simulation and actual vehicle test. The test result show that proposed cluster position estimation enhances perception and path planning performance in autonomous driving.

  • This paper has proposed an algorithm for the initial pole position estimation of a permanent magnet linear synchronous motor(PMLSM). The algorithm finds the initial pole position observing the maximum values of a position generated by the new proposed two reference frames for the same force input. So, the proposed algorithm does not utilize the motor parameters and is insensitive to them. Moreover, the proposed algorithm is easily realized because the proposed method is just using PI controller

  • Structural equation modeling (SEM) is a basic tool for testing theories in a variety of disciplines. A maximum likelihood (ML) method for parameter estimation is by far the most widely used in SEM. Alternatively, two-stage least squares (2SLS) estimator has been proposed as a more robust procedure to address model misspecification. A regularized extension of 2SLS, two-stage ridge least squares (2SRLS) has recently been introduced as an alternative to ML to effectively handle the small-sample-size issue. However, it is unclear whether and when misspecification and small sample sizes may pose problems in theory testing with 2SLS, 2SRLS, and ML. The purpose of this article is to evaluate the three estimation methods in terms of inferences errors as well as parameter recovery under two experimental conditions. We find that: 1) when the model is misspecified, 2SRLS tends to recover parameters better than the other two estimation methods; 2) Regardless of specification errors, 2SRLS produces small or relatively acceptable Type II error rates for the small sample sizes.

Estimation of Mean Life and Reliability of Highway Pavement Based on Reliability Theory (신뢰성 개념을 이용한 포장의 평균수명 및 신뢰도 예측)

  • In this paper, the author presents a reliability estimation technique to analyze the effects of traffic loads on pavement mean life based on the national highway database of Suwon and Uijeongbu region from 1999 to 2008. The estimation of the mean life, its standard deviation and reliability for pavement sections are calculated by using an appropriate distribution, Lognormal distribution, based on reliability theory. Furthermore, the probability paper method and Maximum likelihood estimation are both used to estimate parameters. The author found that mean life of newly constructed sections and over-layed sections is about 6.5 to 7.9 years and 7.3 to 9.1 years, respectively. The author also ascertained that the results of cumulative failure probability for pavement life between the proposed methods and observed data are similar. Such an assessment methodology and measures based on reliability theory can provide useful information for maintenance plans in pavement management systems as long as additional life data on pavement sections are accumulated.

  • A method is proposed to estimate aquifer parameters in a heterogeneous and anisotropic aquifer under steady-state groundwater flow conditions on the basis of maximum likelihood concept. Zonation method is adopted for parameterization, and estimation errors are analyzed by examining the estimation error covariance matrix in the eigenspace. This study demonstrates the ability of the proposed model to estimate parameters and helps to understand the characteristics of the inverse problem. This study also explores various features of the inverse methodology by applying it to a set of field data of the Taegu area. In the field example, transmissivities were estimated under three different zonation patterns. Recharge rates in the Taegu area were also estimated using MODINV which is an inverse model compatible with MODFLOW.The estimation results indicate that anisotropy of aquifer parameters should be considered for the crystalline rock aquifer which is the dominant aquifer system in Korea.

Effects of Raising Farm on Genetic Evaluation for Carcass Traits in Hanwoo Cows (사육농가의 효과가 한우 암소의 도체형질 유전 평가에 미치는 영향)

  • This research was conducted to analyze the effects of raising farm on the heritability and breeding values of Hanwoo cows for their carcass traits, including cold carcass weight (CWT), back-fat thickness (BFT), eye-muscle area (EMA) and marbling score (MAR). The carcass data and pedigree data were collected from steers raised on Hanwoo farms in Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do, South Korea. Three analytical models were applied for the estimation of heritabilities and breeding values. The first model (model 1) included slaughter house-year-month combination as fixed effects and age at slaughter was fitted as linear and quadratic covariates. The second model (model 2) was similar to model 1, but raising farm was additionally included as random effect. The third model (model 3) was similar to model 1 but farm effects were additionally included as fixed effect. The comparisons between the model 1 and the models including farm effect (model 2 and model 3) revealed that heritability estimates from model 2 or model 3 were smaller to those from model 1 for all carcass traits. Especially, obvious decrease of heritability was observed in CWT where heritability was 0.23 from model 1, 0.15 from model 2 and 0.18 from model 3. The maximum log likelihood of the model 2 and 3 were higher than those of model 1 for all traits. In model 2 that raising farm was included as a random effect, the ratio of farm variance to the total phenotypic variance were ranged from 4% (EMA) to 18% (CWT). Top 10% and bottom 10% of female cows were selected based on the breeding values from model 1, and the Spearman's rank correlation coefficients among models were estimated for each trait within selected group. The correlation coefficients were ranged from 0.57 to 0.95 in top 10% group and from 0.68 to 0.95 in bottom 10% group. These results show that the discrepancies in the rankings of breeding values can be based on the models applied. In conclusion, the results obtained in this study suggest that the herd effect or farm effect should be included in the analytical model when breeding values are estimated with the purpose of improvement of carcass traits of Hanwoo breeding cows.

  • The composite lognormal-generalized Pareto distribution (LN-GPD) is a mixture of right-truncated lognormal and GPD for a given threshold value. Scollnik (Scandinavian Actuarial Journal, 2007, 20-33, 2007) shows that the composite LN-GPD is adequate to describe body distribution and heavy-tailedness. This paper considers time-varying modeling of the LN-GPD based on local polynomial maximum likelihood estimation. Time-varying model provides significant detailed information of time dependent data, hence it can be applied to disciplines such as service engineering for staffing and resources management. Our work also extends to Beirlant and Goegebeur (Journal of Multivariate Analysis, 89, 97-118, 2004) in the sense of losing no data by including truncated lognormal distribution. Our proposed method is shown to perform adequately in simulation. Real data application to the service time of the Israel bank call center shows interesting findings on the staffing policy.

ML-Based and Blind Frequency Offset Estimators Robust to Non-Gaussian Noise in OFDM Systems (비정규 잡음에 강인한 ML기반 OFDM 블라인드 주파수 옵셋 추정기)

  • In this paper, we propose robust blind estimators for the frequency offset of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing in non-Gaussian noise environments. We first propose a maximum likelihood (ML) estimator in non-Gaussian noise modeled as a complex isotropic Cauchy process, and then, a simpler estimator based on the ML estimator is proposed. From numerical results, we confirm that the proposed estimators are robust to the non-Gaussian noise and have a better estimation performance over the conventional estimator in non-Gaussian noise environments.

  • 사용자와 환경의 변화에 적응하기 위해서 베이지안 네트워크의 다양한 학습 방법들이 연구되고 있다. 기존의 많은 학습방법에서는 학습 데이터로부터 통계적 방법을 통해서 베이지안 네트워크 모델을 학습하는데, 이러한 접근 방법은 학습 데이터를 수집하기 어려운 문제에 적용하기 힘들며, 사용자의 의도를 데이터의 패턴들로만 학습하므로 직접적으로 사용자의 의도를 반영할 수 없다. 본 논문에서는 대화에 기반하여 사용자의 의도를 직접적으로 수집하고, 이로부터 베이지안 네트워크의 파라메터를 학습하는 방법을 연구한다. 제안하는 방법에서는 사용자와의 대화를 통해서 현재의 모델의 잘못된 점 혹은 개선점을 직접적으로 입력 받고, 이를 바탕으로 베이지안 네트워크 모델을 수정하여 데이터의 수집 없이 빠른 시간에 사용자가 원하는 모델을 학습 할 수 있다. 기존의 통계적 기법을 이용한 대표적인 베이지안 네트워크 파라메터 학습 방법인 최대우도 추정(Maximum Likelihood Estimation; MLE) 방법과 제안하는 방법을 비교하여 제안하는 방법의 유용성을 확인한다.

A Study on Cell ID Detection Scheme Using Synchronization Signals for 5G NR System (5G NR 시스템을 위한 동기 신호를 이용한 cell ID 검출을 위한 방법 연구)

  • 본 논문에서는 5G NR 시스템을 위한 동기 신호를 이용한 cell ID 검출 방법에 대한 성능을 비교하였다. 5G NR(fifth-generation new radio) 시스템의 송신기는 SS/PBCH (synchronization signal/physical broadcast channel) 블록을 송신하며, 수신기는 수신된 SS/PBCH 블록을 이용하여 주파수 및 타이밍 오프셋 (frequency and timing offset)을 추정 할 수 있으며, cell ID (cell identity)는 PSS (primary synchronization signal)와 SSS (secondary synchronization signal)를 통해 검출할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 cell ID 를 검출할 수 있는 방법으로서 2-stage 디코딩 방법과 결합 최대우도 결정 규칙 (joint maximum-likelihood decision rule: joint ML) 디코딩 방법을 사용하였다. Joint ML 디코딩 방법은 2-stage 디코딩 방법에 비해 더 좋은 검출 성능을 보이지만, 복잡도 측면에서는 2-stage 디코딩 방법이 joint ML 디코딩 방법에 비해 더 낮은 복잡도를 갖는 것을 확인하였다.
