  • A new technique for land cover classification which applies digital image pre-classified by unsupervised classification technique, clustering, to Canonical Correlation Analysis(CCA) was proposed in this paper. Compared with maximum likelihood classification, the proposed technique had a good flexibility in selecting training areas. This implies that any selected position of training areas has few effects on classification results. Land cover of each cluster designated by CCA after clustering is able to be used as prior information for maximum likelihood classification. In case that the same training areas are used, accuracy of classification using Canonical Correlation Analysis after cluster analysis is better than that of maximum likelihood classification. Therefore, a new technique proposed in this study will be able to be put to practical use. Moreover this will play an important role in the construction of GIS database

  • The information on the land cover along stream corridor is important for stream restoration and maintenance activities. This study aims to review the different classification methods for mapping the status of stream corridors in Seom River using airborne RGB and CIR digital ortho imagery with a ground pixel resolution of 0.2m. The maximum likelihood classification, minimum distance classification, parallelepiped classification, mahalanobis distance classification algorithms were performed with regard to the improvement methods, the skewed data for training classifiers and filtering technique. From these results follows that, in aerial image classification, Maximum likelihood classification gave results the highest classification accuracy and the CIR image showed comparatively high precision.

  • The purpose of this study is focused on the development of the effective classification technique using ultra multiband of hyperspectral image. This study suggests the classification technique using canonical correlation analysis, one of multivariate statistical analysis in hyperspectral image classification. High accuracy of classification result is expected for this classification technique as the number of bands increase. This technique is compared with Maximum Likelihood Classification(MLC). The hyperspectral image is the EO1-hyperion image acquired on September 2, 2001, and the number of bands for the experiment were chosen at 30, considering the band scope except the thermal band of Landsat TM. We chose the comparing base map as Ground Truth Data. We evaluate the accuracy by comparing this base map with the classification result image and performing overlay analysis visually. The result showed us that in MLC's case, it can't classify except water, and in case of water, it only classifies big lakes. But Canonical Correlation Classification (CCC) classifies the golf lawn exactly, and it classifies the highway line in the urban area well. In case of water, the ponds that are in golf ground area, the ponds in university, and pools are also classified well. As a result, although the training areas are selected without any trial and error, it was possible to get the exact classification result. Also, the ability to distinguish golf lawn from other vegetations in classification classes, and the ability to classify water was better than MLC technique. Conclusively, this CCC technique for hyperspectral image will be very useful for estimating harvest and detecting surface water. In advance, it will do an important role in the construction of GIS database using the spectral high resolution image, hyperspectral data.

  • The classification accuracy of land cover has been considered as one of the major issues to estimate pollution loads generated from diffuse landuse patterns in a watershed. This research aimed to assess the effects of the acquisition methods and sampling size of training reference data on the classification accuracy of land cover using an imagery acquired by optical sensor(OPS) on JERS-1. Two kinds of data acquisition methods were considered to prepare training data. The first was to assign a certain land cover type to a specific pixel based on the researchers subjective discriminating capacity about current land use and the second was attributed to an aerial photograph incorporated with digital maps with GIS. Three different sizes of samples, 0.3%, 0.5%, and 1.0% of all pixels, were applied to examine the consistency of the classified land cover with the training data of corresponding pixels. Maximum likelihood scheme was applied to classify the land use patterns of JERS-1 imagery. Classification run applying an aerial photograph achieved 18 % higher consistency with the training data than the run applying the researchers subjective discriminating capacity. Regarding the sample size, it was proposed that the size of training area should be selected at least over 1% of all of the pixels in the study area in order to obtain the accuracy with 95% for JERS-1 satellite imagery on a typical small-to-medium-size urbanized area.

  • To classify the landfast ice in the north of the Greenland, observation data, multifrequency Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images and texture images were used. The total four types of sea ice are first year ice, highly deformed ice, ridge and moderately deformed ice. The texture images that were processed by K-means algorithm showed higher accuracy than the ones that were processed by SAR images; however, overall accuracy of maximum likelihood algorithm using texture images did not show the highest accuracy all the time. It turned out that when using K-means algorithm, the accuracy of the multi SAR images were higher than the single SAR image. When using the maximum likelihood algorithm, the results of single and multi SAR images are differ from each other, therefore, maximum likelihood algorithm method should be used properly.

  • In this Paper. a method for improving the performance of automatic speech recognition (ASR) system for conversational speech is proposed. which mainly focuses on increasing the robustness against the rapidly speaking utterances. The proposed method doesn't require an additional speech recognition task to represent speaking rate quantitatively. Energy distribution for special bands is employed to detect the vowel regions, the number of vowels Per unit second is then computed as speaking rate. To improve the Performance for fast speech. in the pervious methods. a sequence of the feature vectors is expanded by a given scaling factor, which is computed by a ratio between the standard phoneme duration and the measured one. However, in the method proposed herein. utterances are classified by their speaking rates. and the scaling factor is determined individually for each class. In this procedure, a maximum likelihood criterion is employed. By the results from the ASR experiments devised for the 10-digits mobile phone number. it is confirmed that the overall error rate was reduced by $17.8\%$ when the proposed method is employed
