Determination of Maximum Shear Modulus of Sandy Soil Using Pressuremeter Tests (프레셔미터 시험을 이용한 사질토 지반의 최대 전단탄성계수 결정)

  • Pressuremeter test estimates the deformational properties of soil from the relationship between applied pressure and the displacement of cavity wall. It is general to utilize the reloading curve for the estimation of deformational properties of soil because the initial loading curve can be affected by the disturbance caused by boring. On the other hand, the instrumental resolution or the variation of measured data makes it hard to estimate the maximum shear modulus from pressuremeter test results. This study suggested the methodology estimating the maximum shear modulus from pressuremeter test directly, based on the curve fitting of reloading curve. In addition, the difference was taken into account between the stress state around the probe in reloading and that of the in-situ state. Pressuremeter tests were conducted for 15 cases using a large calibration chamber, together with a number of reference tests. The maximum shear moduli taken from suggested method were compared with those from empirical correlation and bender element test.

Adsorption and Diffusion Characteristics of Benzene, Toluene, and Xylene Vapors on Activated Carbon and Zeolite 13X (활성탄과 제올라이트 13X에서 벤젠, 톨루엔 및 자일렌 증기의 흡착 및 확산 특성)

  • Adsorption equilibrium and intraparticle diffusion characteristics of benzene, toluene, and xylene vapors on activated carbon and zeolite 13X were investigated. Static adsorption experiments were carried out under the pressure range of 0.01~0.07 bar while changing the adsorption temperature to 293.15 K, 303.15 K, and 313.15 K, respectively. Adsorption equilibrium was analyzed by Langmuir, Freundlich and Toth models. The adsorption energy was 5.26~31.0 kJ/mol representing physical adsorption characteristics. The maximum adsorption capacity on activated carbon was the largest for benzene, and the smallest for xylene. Toluene was in between. In the case of zeolite 13X, the maximum adsorption capacity was the largest for xylene, and the smallest for benzene as opposed to activated carbon. The effective diffusion coefficients of gas adsorbate were measured to be about $10^{-5}{\sim}10^{-4}cm^2/s$, and increased with temperature. As the pressure increased, the effective diffusion coefficients were decreased. The dependence of effective diffusion coefficients on temperature and pressure was greater in zeolite 13X particles than in activated carbon. Therefore, it is necessary to express the diffusion coefficients as a function of pressure in order to predict the precise dynamic behavior of the adsorption process using zeolite 13X where the pressure fluctuation occurs abruptly.

  • Problems created by supersonic jet impinging on solid objects or ground arise in a variety of situations. For example multi-stage rocket separation, deep-space docking, V/STOL aircraft, jet-engine exhaust, gas-turbine blade, terrestrial rocket launch, and so on. These impinging jet flows generally contain a complex structures. (mixed subsonic and supersonic regions, interacting shocks and expansion waves, regions of turbulent shear layer) This paper describes experimental works on the phenomena (surface pressure distribution, flow visualization) when underexpanded supersonic jets impinge on the perpendicular, inclined plate using a supersonic cold-(low system. The used supersonic nozzle is convergent-divergent type, exit Mach number 2, The maximum on the plate when it was inclined was much larger than perpendicular plate, owing to high pressure recoveries through multiple shocks. Surface pressure distribution as to underexpanded ratio showed similar patterns together.

  • Bitumen extraction and sulfur removal from Athabasca oil sand were conducted using water in sub- and supercritical condition. Bitumen yield in micro reactor was investigated in the pressure range of 15~30 MPa, the temperature of 360 and $380^{\circ}C$ and water density $0.074{\sim}0.61g/cm^3$ for 0~120 min. Bitumen yield increased with reaction pressure irrespective of temperature and dramatically increased in especially supercritical region due to hydrogen formed from water gas shift reaction. Total amount of gas product decreased with reaction pressure but the portion of sulfur and hydrogen increased a little with increasing pressure to 25 and 30 MPa. It is seen that supercritical condition was favourable to the hydrogen formation and sulfur removal. Bitumen yield and sulfur removal from original oil sand reached a maximum 22% and 40% respectively in supercritical condition(the reaction time of 60 min at $380^{\circ}C$ and 25 or 30 MPa).

  • 수 Tera Watt급의 가속기 및 펄스파워 시스템은 다수의 스위치를 사용하고 있으며, 이와 같은 가속기 및 시스템의 성능은 기체방전 스위치의 성능에 직접적으로 관련되어 있다. 일반적으로 이와 같은 기체방전, 액체방전 고출력 스위치는 다목적으로 많은 연구와 개발에 응용되고 있다. 예를 들어 천둥 펄스전자빔 발생장치는 12개의 Marx gap 및 3개의 100 kV 펄스충전 전기트리거 gap을 가지고 있다. 기체 방전 또는 액체 방전 펄스 충전 갭 스위치의 음극에 펄스 고전압이 인가되면 이로 인하여 음극에서 전자빔이 발생한다. 내부에는 전자빔이 양극과 충돌하는 순간 양극표면에 플라스마가 형성된다. 이와 같은 플라스마 sheath는 축 방향 이극관 안에서 양극 충전 에서 음극으로 팽창하면서 전파하며, 또한 거의 동시에 음극표면에도 플라스마가 형성되어 음극에서 양극으로도 팽창하여 전파하게 된다. 이와 같은 펄스충전 고출력 갭 스위치 안에서 발생되는 방전 플라스마의 특성에 관한 갭 breakdown 과정에 대한 특성연구를 한다. 고출력 스위치의 특성 조건으로는 방전전압, 방전시간, jitter 등이 있다. 본 연구에서는 최대전압 600 KV, 최대전류 88 KA, 펄스 폭 60 ns의 특성을 가지는 고전압 펄스 시스템 '천둥'을 이용하여 방전 챔버에 고전압 펄스를 인가하고 N2와 SF6 혼합기체 종류와 압력에 따른 현상을 전기, 광학적으로 연구하였다. 전극은 구리텅스텐 합금재질의 표준전극을 사용하였고, 전극 간격은 20 mm로 고정하였다. 방전 챔버 압력을 100 torr에서 4 기압까지 변화시켜가며 실험을 진행하였고, N2에 대한 SF6의 혼합비율을 0%~100%까지 변화시키며 실험을 진행하였다. 실험결과 방전전압은 압력이 증가함에 따라 증가하다가 2 기압 이상에서는 완만히 증가하는 경향을 보였고, SF6 혼합비율은 0~10%까지 급격히 증가하고, 그 이상의 혼합비율에서는 완만히 증가하였다. 전자온도는 SF6 혼합비율이 0~10%일 때 급격히 증가하여 이후에는 포화되는 경향을 보였고, 압력에 따라서는 큰 경향성을 보이지 않았다.

SF6 혼합비율에 따라서는 1 기압 조건까지는 큰 차이가 없었으나 2 기압부터는 급격히 증가하였다. 안정성을 나타내는 jitter는 SF6 100%일 때 가장 컸으나 혼합기체의 변화에 따른 큰 차이는 없었다.

Derivations of Positive Pressure Condition for Development of Foldable Safe Pathway in Railway Tunnel Fires (철도터널화재용 접이식 대피통로 개발을 위한 양압 조건 도출)

  • The Korea Foldable safe pathway system is an evacuation support system to get temporary evacuation route in railway tunnel and large space fires. A prevention smoke screen is unfolded in fires and it is needed to prevent heat and smoke from fire source. Therefore, ventilation system for positive pressure condition is equipped with foldable safe pathway system. Numerical analyses of temperature and pressure distribution with distance from fire source were performed considering fire scenario of new train vehicle. The smoke temperatures did not exceed $200^{\circ}C$ that distance from the fire source was more than 20 m and smoke pressure was reduced with distance from fire source. Maximum smoke pressure was 14 Pa and average pressure was 6 Pa in position of prevention smoke screen. As results, to install foldable safe pathway system, ventilation system is need to maintain 6 Pa positive pressure condition.

  • Environmental emission of recent automobile is drastically enhanced that it is one of the obvious assignments of exhaust system. This study is a purpose to establish of influence distribution on maxima and minima through the location of pressure on exhaust variable valve. The experiment are checked with real angles using camera which exhaust variable valve is opened side of point. Data has extracted to opening angles with internal flow, pressure. Exhaust variable valve through the floating analysis was analyzed the characteristic of location point about pressure and velocity. The pressures indicated the reduced results internal pressure within muffler. The velocity indicated an opposite results and vibration state of valve was verified to be operated as high speed from lower section. The conclusion to obtain from this study was found out the result to make the optimum back pressure condition as more increasing pressure distribution on valve face if the velocity location attracted by bottom point in order to improve for engine performance.

Study of Supersonic Jet Impinging on a Jet Deflector (제트 편향기에 충돌하는 초음속 제트에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, Supersonic jets impinging on a wedge were investigated in order to acquire fundamental design data for jet deflectors. Surface pressure distributions and pressure contours were obtained using a cold flow tester producing Mach 2 supersonic jets. Schlieren system was used to visualize the flow structure on the wedge surface. Numerical computations were performed and compared with the experimental results. Both results were in good agreement. The results showed that underexpansion ratio did not affect on the surface pressure distribution when the wedge is located at the nozzle exit. With increasing underexpansion ratio, pressure recovery decreased as the wedge is located farther from the nozzle exit. In the pressure contour, it was possible to locate the region where the peak pressure on the wedge surface was occurred.

  • A hydraulic test on a filament wound case of Kick-Motor was conducted to evaluate the structural stiffness degradation and to confirm the burst performance. Failure criteria have been defined with bursting above 150% of MEOP(Maximum Expected Operation Pressure) and failure in the cylinder. The analysis result showed that filament fiber in the cylinder should be broken at about 2088psig. From a hydraulic test it has been verified that composite case meets the failure requirements, and that the stiffness does not decrease even after a year since the manufacturing.
