Focal Liver Mass Detection and Analysis in Ultrasound Images (초음파 영상에서 간 질환 병변 추출 및 분석 기법)

  • 조영증강 초음파 동영상은 측정 부위의 혈류의 형태와 특성 정보를 포함하지만, 이를 육안으로 판별하는 것은 매우 어려운 일이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 초음파 영상으로부터 간 질환과 연관한 병변을 추출하고 그 특성을 분석하기 위한 기반 기술로서 영상 처리 및 분석 기법을 제안한다. 마이크로버블(microbubble) 형태의 노이즈와 빠른 속도로 변화하는 각 프레임의 영상으로부터 근사화된 원형 또는 타원 형태로 나타나는 병변을 추출하기 위하여 허프 변환(Hough transform)을 이용한 병변 추출 기법을 제시하며, 추출한 병변의 특성을 분석하기 위하여 TIC(time intensity curve)의 특성과 조영 효과의 전이 시간(transit time) 등의 정보를 영상의 형태로 가시화하는 방법과 MRF(Markov random field) 모델을 이용한 영상개선 기법을 소개한다. 제안된 이론은 실제 간 질환 진단 초음파 영상에 적용하여 그 유용성을 평가한다.

  • Traditionally the diagnosis and treatment of the diseases of the knee is based on the findings of the x-rays and the MRI. The x-rays provide good information of the changes of the internal structure of the bone. However, there is a limitation in providing information of the soft tissue and the cartilage. The MRI is one of the most expensive diagnostic modalities and it can not give us a dynamic and real time information. The sonography has a role in diagnosis and treatment of the soft tissue disease and surface of the bone. It gives us a real time dynamic information and it is really cheap. In this article the sonographic findings of the normal and pathologic conditions of the knee joint are introduced in relation to the findings of the x-rays and the MRI.

  • 초음파 시스템은 진단 영상뿐만 아니라 초음파 수술과 같이 초음파를 사용하여 특정 세포를 제거하거나, 또는 일반적인 수술을 위한 가이드 영상을 제공하는 등 그 활용이 증가되고 있다. 반면, 기존 초음파 시스템은 크기가 커서 클리닉 센터나 종합병원 등에서 이동성 및 공간 효율성이 낮고 환자에 관한 주치의들의 진단 활동 반경이 매우 제한적이라는 불편함을 초래한다. 본 논문은 서버 클라이언트 기반의 무선 초음파 진단 시스템에서 프루브가 수신한 초음파 반사 신호를 무선으로 실시간 전송하기 위해서 압축센싱과 산술 부호의 연접을 통한 손실 압축 알고리즘을 제안한다.

Development of a Method for Measuring Image Quality of Intra Vascular Ultrasound Images using Image Analysis Program (영상 분석 프로그램을 이용한 혈관 내 초음파 영상의 화질 측정 방법 고안)

  • Prior studies on frequency-related image quality analysis of intravascular ultrasound catheters are lacking both in Korea and abroad. Therefore, this study was conducted to prepare a standard for measuring the image quality using the program and to suggest a measuring method to researchers related to the quality analysis of intravascular ultrasound images. For the target, the vessel lumen size is 3.0 - 4.0 mm. Before using intravascular ultrasound, thoroughly clean the ultrasound catheter so that no air or foreign substances enter it. Normal vascular images and lesion vascular images of sufficiently dilated images were used. As a standard image acquisition method, the image of the end-systolic section, which has the best evaluation of vascular lesions when using intravascular ultrasound, was acquired retrospectively through the DCAS PACS program to set the standard. When setting the measurement method criteria, we proposed a standard setting method that corresponds to the concentric and eccentric circles of normal and lesion vessels. By applying this criterion, we proposed a method for measuring the lumen and lateral cavities of normal and lesion vessels of interest and background area. In conclusion, if the image quality of intravascular ultrasonography is measured through the method devised by these researchers, consistent quality measurement is possible regardless of the type of intravascular ultrasound catheter. Therefore, it is thought that it can be applied as a guideline for the actual image quality measurement method in the study related to intravascular ultrasound image quality.

  • Ultrasonography is used for making the diagnosis and treatment decisions for those patients who complain of shoulder pain related with sports activity. Ultrasonography is especially helpful for diagnosing issues with the rotator cuff, the long head of biceps tendon and the acromio-clavicular joint. The medical decisions about shoulder pain can be promptly made when portable ultrasonography is used in the field of sports.

  • Acupuncture is a treatment method that originated more than 3,000 years ago in China and is practiced in most of the world. Acupuncture became the most popular complementary and alternative medicine modality. Ultrasound is useful for research and educational purposes, visualizing needle insertion at acupuncture points, especially next to vulnerable structures such as nerves or the pleura. Additionally, ultrasound is an ideal imaging method for evaluation the biomechanical effects of needle manipulation on tissue and has the distinctive advantage of yielding both images of tissue morphology and biomechanical information. Elastography take aim at quantifying a mechanical response or the mechanical property of tissues from a mechanical stimulus, generated internally or externally. Therefore, the combination of ultrasound and elastography analyses allows quantitative assessment of dynamic changes in the structure of human connective tissue.

  • 본 논문에서는 초음파 영상의 대한 내용기반 검색을 위한 초음파 영상의 특징 추출방법과 추출된 특징들을 이용한 검색 방법에 대해 제안한다. 내용기반 초음파 영상 검색을 위한 특징들로 공간영역에서 히스토그램과 웨이브릿 변환후 각 부대역에서 통계적 특성을 추출한다. 웨이브릿 변환 영역에서 추출된 특성은 질의 영상과 유사한 영상의 특성 벡터 거리가 평균 특성 벡터 거리보다 작다는 특성을 가진다. 이러한 특성을 이용하여 일차 검색을 수행하여 그 결과를 공간영역의 히스토그램을 이용한 이차 검색을 위한 후보로 사용함으로써 이차 검색의 대상이 줄어들게 된다. 히스토그램을 이용한 검색은 대상이 많을수록 오류를 범할 가능성이 높아짐으로 검색대상을 줄인다는 것은 매우 중요한 일이다. 또한 히스토그램을 사용함으로써 영상내 의학적 객체의 이동이나 회전에 무관하게 검색을 수행할 수 있다.

Suppression of side lobe using distance weight in spectrum of channel signal in medical ultrasound imaging system (의료용 초음파 영상 시스템에서 채널신호의 스펙트럼에서 거리 가중치를 이용한 부엽의 억제)

  • In medical ultrasound imaging systems, Side lobes may appear if signals outside the imaging point are not completely removed during receive focusing. If the time signal of the side lobe overlaps with the time signal (main lobe) from the image point, it is difficult to completely remove it using filter processing in the time domain. However, In the receive focusing process, when time-channel signals are Fourier-transformed, the main lobe and side lobe signals are spatially separated in the spectral domain. Therefore, the side lobes can be suppressed by multiplying the image with magnitude weights, which are determined by the magnitudes of the main and side lobes calculated in the spectral domain. In addition, when the main lobe and the side lobe spectrum are adjacent, the distance weight was applied based on the distance between them. In a 5 MHz ultrasound imaging system using a 64-channel linear transducer, point reflector and speckle images with cysts of various brightness were synthesized and weights were applied to the ultrasound image. Using computer simulations, we confirmed that the side lobes were greatly reduced without affecting the spatial resolution in the point reflector image, and the contrast was significantly improved in the cyst image with computer simulations.

  • In this paper, a novel ultrasonic propagation imaging system, called a full-field pulse-echo ultrasonic propagation imaging (FF PE UPI) system is introduced. The system nondestructively inspected targets with two-axis translation stage. The coincident laser beams for ultrasonic sensing and generation are scanned and pulse-echo mode laser ultrasounds are captured. This procedure makes it possible to generate full-field ultrasound in through-the-thickness direction as large as the scan area. Structural inspection results in the form of full-field ultrasonic wave propagation videos are introduced, which are painted sandwich control surfaces. In addition, the inspection results of FF PE UPI system are compared with conventional ultrasonic testing methods such as waterjet and portable C-scan.
