  • Homogeneous liquids of Ni-21.5Nb-2.5Al and Ni-23.3Nb eutectic superalloys were solidified into Ni/$Ni_3$Al-$Ni_3$Nb(${\gamma}$/${\gamma}$'-${\delta}$)and Ni-Ni/$Ni_3$Nb(${\gamma}$-${\delta}$) phase by directional solidification and the effect of interlamellar spacing on microsturctural stability at high temperatures, hardness variation with growth rate was studied. The interlamellar spacing(${\lambda}$) in the eutectics was varied with the growth rate(R), corresponding to "${\lambda}^2$R =Constant" relationship. Isothermal heat treatments of the eutectics used in this study, provided the microstructural stability improvement at hight temperature as the interlamellar spacing increases. It was also seen that the hardness improvement is made with the growth raterowth rate

  • Leaching of CMSX-4 superalloy was done in hydrochloric acid solutions. The leaching behaviors of main alloy components, such as Ni, Co, Cr, Al, was investigated by controlling acid concentration, temperature, leaching time and pulp density. Increasing acid concentration enhanced the leaching rate till the rate decreased over 3 M acid concentration. Raising temperature increased the leaching amount of the metal components. After the leaching for 60 minutes at $90^{\circ}C$ and 10 g/L pulp density in 4 M acid solution, 93.2% nickel, 89.9% aluminum, 80.4% cobalt, and 79.1% chromium were leached. Nickel and aluminum were preferentially leached out, while the leaching rate of cobalt and chromium were relatively high only after 60 minutes, Increasing pulp density lowered the leaching rate and especially serious on cobalt and chromium, The optimum leaching condition for CMSX-4 was obtained at $90^{\circ}C$, 120 minutes, and less than 125 g/L in 4 M hydrochloric acid solution.

  • The behavior of fatigue crack growth of nickel-based powder metallurgy superalloy that could be used in aircraft turbine disc is investigated at room temperature, and $650^{\circ}C$ considering real operating conditions. The direct current potential drop(DCPD) method was used to measure the crack length of material in real time according to ASTM E647. Tests were performed with various stress ratios (0.1 and 0.5). Experimental results show that stress ratio, and temperature all affect the behavior of fatigue crack growth. As the stress ratio and temperature increase, the fatigue crack growth rate of nickel-based powder metallurgy superalloy also increases. Results were compared and reviewed with fatigue crack growth rates of other nickel-based superalloy materials (Inconel-100) that were studied in previous papers. Fractography analysis of the fractured specimens was performed using as SEM.

  • Alloy 713LC was developed to improve the tensile strength and ductility by reducing the carbon content of Alloy 713C. As Alloy 713LC was designed to minimize the mechanical property change with process conditions, it is generally utilized in the parts which have thick and thin sections simultaneously. In the thick and the thin sections, quite different properties are required. Consequently it is essential to crucially control the local mechanical properties of a parts by optimizing the process condition and heat treatment. In this research, high temperature mechanical properties including creep-rupture and strain-control low cycle fatigue were investigated together with the microstructural variations with heat treatment. Failure mechanism was also analyzed by observing the fracture surface to correlate the variation of mechanical properties with the microstructural change.
