This study is devoted to the problems of thermal and shrinkage stresses in order to avoid cracking at early ages. The early-age damage induced by volume change has great influence on the long-term structural performance of the concrete structures such as its durability and serviceability To solve this complex problem, the computer programs for analysis of thermal and shrinkage stresses were developed. In these procedures, numerous material models are needed and the realistic numerical models have been developed and validated by comparison with relevant experimental results in order to solve practical problems. A framework has been established for formulation of material models and analysis with 3-D finite element method. After the analysis of the temperature, moisture and degree of hydration field in hardening concrete structure, the stress development is determined by incremental structural formulation derived from the principle of virtual work. In this study, the stress development is related to thermal and shrinkage deformation, and resulting stress relaxation due to the effect of early-age creep. From the experimental and numerical results it is found that the early-age creep p)ays important role in evaluating the accurate stress state. The developed analysis program can be efficiently utilized as a useful tool to evaluate the thermal and shrinkage stresses and to find measures for avoiding detrimental cracking of concrete structures at early ages.

Shotcrete have become a deterioration which was exposed to harmful environments. In this study, in order to evaluate the deterioration properties of shotcrete, visual examination, compressive strength, adhesive strength, microstructural analysis were investigated up to the 60th weeks of exposure. The attack solutions for test are sodium sulfate and hydrochloric acid solution with different concentrations, respectively. From the results, although the compressive strength of shotcrete specimens and the adhesive strength between specimens and rocks were high at the early immersion age, they rapidly dropped in the subsequent phases, especially in 5% sodium sulfate and pH1 hydrochloric acid solution. With continued exposure, various harmful ions penetrated into the shotcrete specimen, reacted with the cement hydrate, and generated expansion substances. It was verified that the shotcrete specimens suffered a serious deterioration by chemical attack.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the shrinkage properties of high strength concrete according to the S/A ratio at early age. The main parameters are as follows : S/A ratio is 30, 35, 38, 41, 45%, W/B ratio 24.9%, SF/B ratio 8%. FA/B 15%. The size of specimen is l0$\times$10$\times$40cm and the shrinkage is measured by the embedded gage at each end of the specimens. From the test, it was found that the slump-flow of concrete was high, and also autogenous shrinkage increased and drying shrinkage decreased as S/A ratio increased.

This study investigated the use of Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) over a two-decade period on public roads, focusing on the electromagnetic characteristics of the pavement dielectrics and attenuation. From the results, a typical range of characteristic value, influencing factors, and a correction method were suggested. The typical dielectrics of asphalt pavements were 4-7, as measured by an air-coupled 1 GHz GPR antenna. The dielectrics of concrete pavements were very large in the early age, but were drastically reduced with ageing. Ten years on, collection was in the range of 6-12. The dielectrics were proportional to the relative humidity (R.H.) of the atmosphere. The effects were reduced to one eighth with an overlay. Attenuation generally increased with thickness of the road layer, and also increased where there was damage. The GPR results could also vary depending on the weather conditions as well as on the characteristics of the GPR equipment, even at the same frequency. Therefore, GPR surveys should be performed on road surfaces without debris on a single, fine day. The reliability of the GPR analysis could be improved by cores and equipment calibration with other non-destructive test surveys.
Meniscus, adsorbed layer thickness, capillary pressure and disjoining pressure was deduced in extended meniscus region in cement paste pore by hydrostatic equilibrium. From the results, the relationship between pore size and adsorbed layer thickness could be derived and adsorbed layer thickness represents $0.299{\sim}2.700nm$ according to pore size $1nm{\sim}1{\mu}m$. Especially, disjoining pressure rapidly Increased in less than 10 nm pore size according to adsorbed layer thickness. Therefore, it is interpreted that autogenous shrinkage of cement paste is highly increases in formation of less than 10 nm pore size. Predictions of autogenous shrinkage in cement paste considering driving force for autogenous shrinkage with capillary pressure and disjoining pressure was low in comparison with experiment values between $1{\sim}4$ days and high in later period. These tendency could be thought that pore damage by mercury injection in early age makes shrinkage driving force underestimate and assumption for unsaturated independent pore makes overestimate. These interactions might be needed corrections considering on hydration or pore replacement model.

This study aimed to review the performance stability of PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) fiber reinforcing materials among the synthetic fiber types for which the application of performance reinforcing materials to fiber-reinforced concrete is being reviewed by examining short-term and long-term performance changes. To this end, the residual performance was analyzed after exposing the PET fiber to an acid/alkali environment, and the flexural strength and equivalent flexural strength of the PET fiber-reinforced concrete mixture by age were analyzed, and the surface of the PET fiber collected from the concrete specimen was examined using a scanning microscope (SEM). The changes in were analyzed. As a result of the acid/alkali environment exposure test of PET fiber, the strength retention rate was 83.4~96.4% in acidic environment and 42.4~97.9% in alkaline environment. It was confirmed that the strength retention rate of the fiber itself significantly decreased when exposed to high-temperature strong alkali conditions, and the strength retention rate increased in the finished yarn coated with epoxy. In the test results of the flexural strength and equivalent flexural strength of the PET fiber-reinforced concrete mixture, no reduction in flexural strength was found, and the equivalent flexural strength result also did not show any degradation in performance as a fiber reinforcement. Even in the SEM analysis results, no surface damage or cross-sectional change of the PET reinforcing fibers was observed. These results mean that no damage or cross-section reduction of PET reinforcing fibers occurs in cement concrete environments even when fiber-reinforced concrete is exposed to high temperatures in the early stage or depending on age, and the strength of PET fibers decreases in cement concrete environments. The impact is judged to be of no concern. As the flexural strength and equivalent flexural strength according to age were also stably expressed, it could be seen that performance degradation due to hydrolysis, which is a concern due to the use of PET fiber reinforcing materials, did not occur, and it was confirmed that stable residual strength retention characteristics were exhibited.

Purpose : We aimed to prove the relative limitation of $^{99m}Tc-DMSA$ scintigraphy (DMSA) compared to computed tomography (CT) in diagnosing acute pyelonephritis (APN) in children. Methods : Since September 2006, after a 64-channel CT was imported, 10 DMSA false-negative patients have been identified: these patients underwent a CT scan for acute abdomen or acute febrile symptoms and were diagnosed as having APN; however, their DMSA scans were clear. We focused on these 10 DMSA false-negative patients and analyzed their clinical findings and CT results. We used Philips Brilliance Power 64-channel CT scanner for the CT scan and Siemens Orbitor Nuclear Camera 60 Hz for the DMSA scan. Results : The 10 DMSA false-negative patients were mostly males (80%) and infants (80%). They had fever for a mean of 1.1-day duration before admission and showed increase in acute reactants: leukocyte, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and C-reactive protein. The CT findings of renal lesions were focal in 6 (60%) cases and diffuse in 4 (40%) cases, and most of the lesions were unilateral in 80% of patients. CT proved that 22 renal lesions were neglected by DMSA. Differential renal function test by DMSA was also of no use in the evaluation of renal lesions. Conclusion : In this study, DMSA scan showed limitation in finding renal cortical lesions of CT-proven APN patients. DMSA false-negative results seem to occur at early-phase disease of infantile age, but more prospective studies are needed to determine the reasons and their prevalence.

The aim of this paper is to improve durability of cement paste by imparting hydrophobicity to the surface and sphere of cement-based materials. A cement paste mixed with a silane/siloxane-based water repellent, and the initial hydration performance, flow performance, and age-specific compressive strength were measured. In addition, the water contact angle, SEM, and XRD before and after surface polishing were measured. When 0.5% of the silane/siloxane-based water repellent was mixed into the cement paste, the compressive strength increased, but the compressive strength decreased as the mixing amount increased by 1.5% and 3.0%. When a silane/siloxane water repellent was incorporated into the cement paste, the hydrophilicity was improved and the contact angle was increased due to hydrophobicity. In addition, the contact angle after surface polishing was found to be larger than the contact angle before surface polishing.

This paper is a basic study to improve durability by imparting hydrophobicity to the surface and sphere of cement-based materials. A cement mortar to which a silane/siloxane-based mixed water repellent was added was prepared, and its initial hydration performance, flow performance, and compressive strength were measured. In addition, after the surface was abraded, the water contact angle and water absorption were measured. The flow of cement mortar to which the water repellent was added was found to decrease up to 1.5% in the addition amount of the water repellent agent, and increased at 3.0% in the addition amount. It was found that the setting time of the cement paste was delayed in both the initial setting and the termination when the water repellent was added. It was found that the compressive strength decreased from 3.0% of the maximum added amount of the water repellent to a maximum of 30%. The contact angle was found to increase when the water repellent was added to the cement mortar, and the contact angle after surface polishing was found to be larger than before surface polishing. The addition of the water repellent showed hydrophobicity not only on the surface but also on the surface and cross section damaged by polishing. The water absorption rate was found to decrease when the water repellent was added to the cement mortar, and the water absorption rate after surface polishing was found to be greater than before surface polishing.
