  • UHPC which was a structural material exhibiting very remarkable mechanical performances with compressive strength, tensile strength and flexural strength rising up to 200MPa, 15MPa and 35MPa, respectively. In addition, this material presents exceptional durability regard to the very low diffusion and penetration speeds of noxious substances like chloride ions This study was carry out to evaluate the effect of flexural behavior according to steel fiber type in UHPC. The results is showing that the steel fiber type have remarkable influence flexural strength Addition to it is showing that steel fiber type made little difference in the first cracking strength but considerable gap in the ultimate flexural strength to use the steel fiber of wave type.

  • This study describes the development of a long-distance hose for ultra-high pressure operation, which can be used in conjunction with an ultra-high pressure pump and can be effectively applied to the fire suppression of high-rise buildings and a long, large tunnels. Also, it has phosphorescent properties, which can help to secure the withdrawal route of the fire-fighters when they are threatened by the fire. We developed an ultra-high pressure hose aiming at a pressure of 3 MPa and a flow rate of 2000 lpm and developed an ultra-high pressure fire hose that can withstand this very high pressure by using a double jacket, triple polyurethane coating and warf (Wp) of 52. In order to ensure the performance of the developed ultra-high pressure hose, its structure, appearance, leakage at high pressure, length and elongation were inspected by a certified certification agency, who also subjected it to a peeling test, friction test, breaking pressure test and free fall test. Also, it was studied in addition to the luminescent high-pressure hose for fire-fighting. In the phosphorescence test, the luminance measurement value was more than the reference value of the luminance test after 40 minutes, which confirmed that its performance was satisfactory for fire-fighting products. In the future, if such an ultra-high pressure fire hose were commercialized and applied in the field, it could contribute to securing improved fire suppression and safer exit from fires, as compared to the fire hoses currently used in the suppression of fires in skyscraper buildings and long tunnels.

  • Experimental investigation on the structural behavior of steel fiber-reinforced ultra high performance concrete (UHPC) beams subjected to torsion are presented. Six tests carried out on square beams under torsional moment are presented. The experimental parameters were the volume fraction of the fibers and closed-stirrup ratio. The volume fraction of the fibers was 1.0% and 2.0%. The closed-stirrup ratio was 0, 0.35%, and 0.70%. The test results indicated that ultimate torsional strength increased with increasing fiber volume, and that ultimate torsional strength also increased with increasing the closed-stirrup ratio. In addition, predictive equations for evaluating the ultimate torsional strength of UHPC beams were proposed. The comparison between computed values and the experimentally observed values was shown to validate the proposed analytical equations. It was found that predictions by using proposed equation provides good agreement with test results of UHPC beams.

  • This experimental study presents the fatigue evaluation of a precast deck connected using Ultra-High Performance, Fiber Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC). Four types of two identical large-scale specimens were fabricated with simplified splice rebar details which had a short splice length of ten times rebar diameter. The flexural behavior of each type of specimens until failure was investigated and fatigue behavior of the same type of specimens was then evaluated using two-million cyclic loading. In the flexural tests, tensile rebars exhibited the deformation exceeding yielding strain but failure mode related to the splice details was not observed in spite of such a short splice length. In the fatigue tests, damage was not appreciably accumulated by the cyclic loading except initial flexural cracks and the stress variations in tensile rebars was less than the allowable stress range. These experimental results demonstrate that all types of specimens exhibited acceptable fatigue performance and indicate that enhanced mechanical properties of ultra-high performance material permits to use a simplified splice details along with short joint width.

  • Tensile softening characteristics play an important role in the structural behavior of steel fiber-reinforced ultra high performance concrete. Tension softening modeling and numerical analysis method are necessary for the prediction of structural performance of steel fiber-reinforced concrete. The numerical method to predict the flexural behavior is proposed in this study. Tension softening modeling is carried out by using crack equation based on fictitious crack and inverse analysis in which load-crack opening displacement relationship is considered. Thereafter material modeling is performed considering tension softening. The comparison of moment-curvature curves of the numerical analysis results with the test results indicates a reasonable agreement. Therefore, the present numerical results prove that good prediction of flexural behavior of steel fiber-reinforced ultra high performance concrete beams can be achieved by employing the proposed method.

  • The present study aims to derive optimal interface treatment conditions for emulating a monolithic construction. The joints in this construction are formed through the bonding shear evaluation method during the placement of ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) and normal strength concrete (NSC). The evaluation items include push-off tests for homogeneous UHPC + UHPC and heterogeneous NSC + UHPC. The experimental samples comprised a monolithic placement as the baseline, two levels for the separated placement according to the compression strength of concrete, and five levels for the interface treatment. The increase in the number of grooves and their cross-sectional areas only slightly influenced the bonding shear performance. The optimal interface treatment method for the homogeneous UHPC + UHPC construction grooves was at least 30mm. The heterogeneous NSC + UHPC construction should utilize waterjet roughening to expose the aggregate for the increased roughness.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the fire resistance of ultra-high-performance concrete according to the amount of polypropylene fiber. Different mixtures according to the amount of polypropylene fiber were exposed to a maximum temperature of 900℃; and explosive spalling, residual compressive strength, and ultrasonic velocity of each specimen were evaluated. Test results showed that the fire resistance can be improved by including a small amount of polypropylene fiber in ultra-high performance concrete. It was not observed that explosive spalling occur at a temperature of 900℃ when the polypropylene fibers over 0.4% were included. Residual compressive strength and ultrasonic velocity decreased by 48% and 44%, respectively, compared to those at room temperature.
