Objectives The aim of this study is to report the improvement in Taeeumin's dryness-heat symptom of a 54-year-old man diagnosed with type-II diabetes mellitus after treated by herbal medicine. Methods The Taeeumin patient took Yuldahansotang-gamibang for 9 months to manage Taeeumin's dryness-heat symptom. We examined the changes of Body Mass Index(BMI), Fating Blood Sugar(FBS), Hemoglobin A1c(HbA1c), and ketouria. Results Type-II diabetes mellitus symptoms in the patient with Taeeumin's dryness-heat symptom were thirst, fatigue, and increased body weight. All numerical levels for blood sugar, HbA1c, and ketouria were reduced after taking Yuldahansotang-gamibang. Conclusions The treatment of the patient with Taeeumin's dryness-heat symptom and type-II diabetes mellitus with Yuldahansotang-gamibang was efficient, and further research is needed to prove the effect of Yuldahansotang-gamibang for treating such patients.

Objective: This case report represented that Korean traditional medicine therapies can make effective results for chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy(CIPN) patients. Methods: A 63-year-old female patient has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer(Sertoli-Leydig cell tumor). Total excision of uterus and appendages was operated, and Bleomycin, etoposide and cisplatin combination therapy was applied. After three cycles of chemotherapy, the severe side effects of neutropenia and CIPN occurred. Chemotherapy was terminated, but numbness and tingling pains in the limbs persisted for several months. We provided Korean medicine treatments including herbal medicine, pharmacopuncture, acupuncture, moxibustion and physiotherapies. Results: After treatments, the numbness and pain were reduced from 10 to 1 in hand and 6 to 0 on the numeric rating scale(NRS). Functional assessment of cancer therapy/Gynecologic oncology group neurotoxicity (FACT/GOG-NTX) score was improved from 58 to 97. Conclusion: According to these results, Korean medicine treatments could be considered effective for CIPN. Prospective studies are needed to confirm and expand these findings.

Objectives The purpose of this study is to compare the changes before and after constitutional acupuncture treatment in soyangin who received embedding therapy for wrinkle improvement. Methods A retrospective study reviewing medical records was conducted. The patient was classified as a Soyangin by a specialist based on K-PRISM, personality, appearance, voice and usual symptoms. Records on the degree of wrinkles, postoperative symptoms, and patient satisfaction were reviewed. Results The patient's wrinkles were improved after the embedding therapy. After therapy symptoms were fever, flushing, and burning sensation. After acupuncture, these symptoms were reduced. Patient satisfaction increased after constitutional acupuncture treatment. Conclusion As a result of embedding treatment in Soyangin patients, there was an effect of wrinkle improvement. As a result of constitutional acupuncture treatment, anxiety and stress were reduced before the procedure, and symptoms of heat, burning, and flushing were reduced after the procedure.

Objectives This paper was aimed to review the preceding research on the origins, changes and constructive principle of Mahwangjeongchun-tang. Method Based on Jema Lee's works such as Dongyisusebowon and Dongmuyoogo, we analyzed contents related to Mahwangjeongchun-tang and its modification. Moreover, we reviewed physiological and pathological pecularities of Taeeumin symptomatology and applied the theory to induce the principle of the modified Mahwangjeongchun-tang in Sasang medicine. Results and Conclusion 1) The origins of Mahwangjeongchun-tang might be Mahwang-tang, Jungchun-tang and Saengmaek-san. 2) Mahwangjeongchun-tang had been changed in composition when it moved from Manbyonghoichun to Dongyisusebowon. 3) Mahwangjeongchun-tang consists of a) Platycodi Radix (桔梗), Liriopis Tuber(麥門冬) and Scutellariae Radix(黃芩) which directly or indirectly enhance lung function, b) Ephedra Sinica(麻黃) which affects circulation of lung companion, c) Prunus Armeniaca(杏仁) and Ginkgo Biloba(白果) which affect wiwan's upward circulatory force, d) Radish Seed (蘿葍子) which affects small intestine's digesting effect, e) Mori Cortex Radicis(桑白皮) and Farfarae Flos(款冬花) which affect cough and asthma.

Objectives This study was aimed to report significant improvement of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) treated by Cheongsimyeonja-tang and acupuncture treatment in Taeeumin. Methods Patient who has GERD was treated with herbal medicine and acupunture from June 15 to July 6. Gastrointestinal Symptom Rating Scale (GSRS) was used to observe changes of digestive symptoms. Results After treatment, the GSRS of the patient improved from 4.8 to 2.6. Also, the patient's symptoms of sore throat, cough, phlegm and bowel sound were reported to be improved after treatment. Conclusions This study shows that Cheongsimyeonja-tang might be effective in Taeeumin type patient's GERD.

Introduction This study reports case series of Soyangin patients with coldness in hands and feet using Sasang constitutional medicine approach. This study suggests a value of using constitutional medicine indicators as both prognostic and diagnostic tools. Methods Among patients who visited an outpatient clinic, 7 patients were selected based on the criteria. These selected patients were exclusively treated with herbal medicine and monitored every 2 to 4 weeks retrospectively. Results The average treatment period was 8 weeks. Patients with a favorable pattern showed the improvement within 8 weeks, while those with an unfavorable pattern required more time. Discussion This study confirms the significance of Sasang constitutional medicine approach in Soyangin exterior cold syndrome with coldness in hands and feet. It also validates the current coldness in hands and feet as meaningful diagnostic indicator of Soyangin exterior cold syndrome. Furthermore, it highlights the value of original symptoms as prognostic tools.

Objectives The purpose of this case study was to report a case of anorexia and fatigue after getting vaccinated COVID-19 treated based on Sasang Constitutional Medicine. Methods The patient was hospitalized for 4 days and treated with herbal medicine and moxibustion. The patient was asked to score for daily energy level out of 100 on his own and we used Karnofsky Performance Score(Karnofsky PS) on daily health status to evaluate the clinical effects. We also checked daily amount of meal and evaluated original symptoms such as insomnia, gastric discomfort, bowel movement and dysuria in four stages. Results At initial, the patient could only eat one spoon of a meal and was unable to carry on herself without any assistance, so she used a wheelchair on the day of admission. When discharged, the patient can eat half of a meal at each mealtime and perform normal activities by herself. Discussion This case demonstrates that Sasang constitutional approach to anorexia and fatigue caused by COVID-19 vaccination can be an useful treatment.

The purpose of this research was to investigate the effects of Kwakhyangjeonggisan (KJS) on the anti-allergic action. In the present study, we examined the effect of KJS on type I and type IV allergic reaction. KJS inhibited the systemic anaphylaxis induced by compound 48/80 and platelet activating factor (PAF), and inhibited the passive cutaneous anaphylaxis (PCA) induced by anti-dinitrophenyl (DNP)-IgE and DNP-human serum albumin (HSA) in vivo. In addition, KJS dose-dependently inhibited the release of histamine from peritoneal mast cells in rat. Also, KJS inhibited the delayed type hypersensitivity (DTH) induced by SRBC and the contact dermatitis induced by dinitrofluorobenzene (DNFB). KJS inhibited the proliferation of splenocytes, the subpopulation of B220+ cells and CD4+CD8-(Th) cells in splenocytes and the production of γ-interferon in serum and splenocytes. These findings suggest that KJS prevented the type I allergy by the inhibition of histamine release from mast cells and the type IV allergy by the inhibition of γ-interferon production and B lymphocytes subpopulation. These results indicate that KJS may be useful for the prevention and treatment of type I and type IV allergy related disease.

초고령화 사회로 진입하면서 건강의 유지 및 관리는 일상생활에서 매우 중요한 관심으로 대두되고 있다. 특히 우리나라 전통의학에 대한 가치성이 향상되면서 이를 실생활에 접목하기 위한 노력이 활발하게 진행되고 있는 실정이다. 이를 위해 본 논문에서는 사상의학에 대한 체질 분류의 객관화를 통해 예방차원의 건강 관리를 지속하기 위한 연구를 진행하고자 한다. 특히 사상의학에서 제안하고 있는 여러 사상체질 분류 방법 중에서 음성을 통한 사상체질 분류 방법을 공학적으로 구현하여 이를 객관적 진단 지표로 설계하고자 한다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 서울지역에 거주하고 있는 20-30대 남성의 음성을 수집하여 음성 분석학적 요소 중 피치 분석 요소들에 대한 추출 및 비교를 통해 사상의학의 사기론에서 제안하는 이론적 근거를 입증하고자 한다. 최종적으로 실험을 통해 추출된 결과를 사상의학 전문의의 진단 결과와 비교, 분석하여 제안하는 기법에 대한 검증을 수행하고자 한다.

Objectives The purpose of this study was to report the clinical effect on a 54-year-old diabetes patient, categorized into taeeumin exterior disease, after taking herbal medicine. Methods The patient was diagnosed as taeeumin's esophagus-cold pattern and type 2 diabetes symptoms in taeeumin patient were indigestion, fatigue, and headache. We assessed the changes of fasting blood sugar(FBS), hemoglobin A1c(HbA1c), and total cholesterol. Results and Conclusions FBS, HbA1c, and total cholesterol reduced after treated by Jowiseungchungtang-gamibang three times per day for 5 months. These results show that treating a diabetic patient, accompanied by esophagus-cold symptoms, with Jowiseungchungtang-gamibang particularly improves high blood glucose after orthopedic surgery in practicing healthy eating habits.
