Studies on the Varietal Differences of the Electrophoretic Protein Patterns in the Pupal Haemolymph of the Silkworm, Bombyx mori (가잠용에 있어서 체액단백질의 품종간 차이에 대하여)

  • In order to know the similarity of the electrophoretic protein patterns, distributional aspects of the frequency in each protein band, differences of protein patterns between female and male, and the number of the total protein bands of each variety in the haemolymph of the silkworm pupae according to their geographical origin, the silkworm varieties, and both the sexes, variable electrophoretic protein patterns were observed by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, using the silkworm strains which have been reared in the sericultural experiment station. 1. The total number of electrophoretic protein bands classified were twenty-eight, and nearly fourteen bands were shown by each variety on an average. 2. According to their geographical origin, the mean values of the similarity were 20.0%, 28.3% and 14.3% in Japanese, Chinese and European respectively, and the highest similarity was observed between Chinese varieties. 3. The similarity of 129 varieties were tested and it was 22.5%, 23.5% in female and male respectively. 4. The electrophoretic protein patterns in 129 varieties were tested and variation was found in 109 patterns in female and 112 in male. 5. The frequency of the each specified protein band in female and male having variation in protein bands in each variety was found averagely 6.6%. 6. The distribution frequency of the classified 28 protein bands in both the sexes within each geographical origin was variable from 0% to 100%. 7. Among the classified 28 protein bands, HP 11 protein band was found common in all the varieties tested. 8. HP 3 and HP 4 protein bands in female showed high density in electropherograms than in male.

Survey of Exposure to Blood and Body Fluids, Knowledge, Awareness and Performance on Standard Precautions of Infection Control in Nursing Students (간호대학생의 혈액 및 체액 노출실태, 감염예방 표준주의 지식, 인지도 및 수행도)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the actual situation of nursing students' exposure to blood and body fluids, and their knowledge, awareness and performance of standard precautions in an attempt to offer basic data for education of nursing students concerning infection control. The participants of this study were 309 juniors and seniors enrolled in the nursing colleges in J province. Of the participants, 71.5% turned out to have experienced exposure to the blood and body fluids of patients. The mean score of the knowledge about standard precautions was $20.59{\pm}2.05$, whereas grade, infection control education were statistically significant. The average awareness of standard precautions scored $4.67{\pm}.36$, and age, no follow-up measures were statistically significant. The mean sore for the performance of standard precautions was $4.25{\pm}.70$, while exposure to blood and body fluids was found to be statistically significant. There was positive correlation between the participants' knowledge, awareness and performance. The awareness(${\beta}=.274$) of standard precautions only stood out significantly among the factors affecting the performance of standard precautions, accounting for 8.6% in the performance variance of standard precautions. The study found it necessary to develop the infection control program in diverse ways by complementing especially the areas which used to show low awareness and performance of standard precautions. It is thus suggested to intensify education for students about infection control prior to starting clinical training.

Electrophoretic Patterns of Hemolymph Proteins of Varieties with Long and Short Life Span in the Silkworm Bombyx mori L. (${\cdot}$단명 누에 품종의 체액단백질의 전기영동상)

  • Hemolymph protein patterns of silkworms in terms of short and long life span were analyzed by native- and SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE) with the developmental stages. From the native-PAGE patterns of silkworm major hemolymph proteins there were varietal differences on the first day of the pupal stage and were classified into there groups MHP-a, b and c SA 10, JAM109 and J037 were grouped into MHP-Ⅰ, Hangang, Chungmun and Daizo(sdi) into MHP-Ⅱ and NTZN, Sulak, Qoichuk and PR varieties into MHP-Ⅲ group. It was found that the MHP in each group revealed similar patterns and changes with development of pupal stage. In the first day of adult, MHP-c was clearly detected in both female and male of the Daizo(sdi), but not in the J037, indicating that there was significantly varietal differences in electrophoretical protein pattern. In addition, the results of protein pattern of hemolymph by SDS-PAGE showed also varietal differences in the concentration of hemolymph protein.

Effects of Cucumber Beverage Intake on Fluid-Regulating Hormones and CRP in Amateur Marathoners (마라톤 동호인의 오이음료 섭취가 체액조절호르몬과 C-반응단백에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of cucumber beverage intake on fluid-regulating hormones and CRP in amateur marathoners between the ages of 47~49. Among research subjects, 8 male middle-aged marathoners who have completed the full marathon course over 5 times and who have run for over 50 months were selected. In two marathon races, they received firstly water and secondly cucumber beverage: 10 ml before the race, 50 ml every 5 km, and 200 ml after the race, adding up to 10 drinks and 710 ml in total amount of beverage taken. For statistics, one-way ANOVA within the group was conducted through SPSS 12.0; for post-examination, Duncan was utilized; and for inter-group examination, an independent t-test was used. Before, right after, and after the marathon, the cucumber beverage intake group had a significantly decreased serum ADH concentration compared to the water intake group. Both the cucumber beverage and water intake groups had significantly increased serum rennin levels before, right after, and after the marathon. Both the cucumber beverage and water intake groups had significantly increased aldosterone before, right after, and after the marathon. CRP levels didn't show change. In conclusion, intake of cucumber beverage during a marathon race was found to help with fluid-regulating hormones. This research has attempted to continue to study the influence on hormones that control body fluids.

Fine Structural Study of Coelomic Solitary Spermatogenesis in Urechis unicinctus (개불 (Urechis unicinctus) 체강에서의 단위집단 정자형성(Solitary Spermatogenesis)에 관한 미세구조 연구)

  • Early spermatocytes of U. unicinctus are found in cluster floating in the coelomic fluid. The spermatocytes in a cluster form a syncytium or cytoplasmic mass, but there are no indications that the cytoplasmic mass is a component of a somatic cell. This work suggested that this type of spermatogenesis can be subordinated to solitary spermatogenesis in the sense excluding structural and functional support of a somatic cell for sperm developments. The solitary spermatogenesis in U. unicinctus is different in appearances and developmental details of sperm organelles and stage distributions from that of localized spermatogenesis. The acrosomal rudiments and centrioles can be observed in the early single cells of spermatogonia and clearly disclosed in the primary spermatocyte. In the stage of secondary spermatocyte, the acrosomal precursor and the centrioles begin to move to each cytoplasmic poles. The polarities of the organelles are attained at stage of spermatids. The spermatocytes and spermatids are arranged circumferentially along the cytoplasmic mass in which some amorphological cytoplasmic components are included. The spermatids reveal to be detached from the cytoplasmic mass into coelomic fluid. It suggests that the spermatogenesis are progressed in support of coelomic fluid, and the fact take into consideration that the spermatogenic cells can be in vitro cultured without somatic cells and with supplements of coelomic fluid.

  • HIV는 주로 성접촉을 통해 전염된다는 사실을 대부분 알고 있지만 막상 가족 중 한 사람이 HIV에 감염되었다고 했을 때 어떻게 해야 하는지 당황하는 경우가 많다. 일상적인 접촉으로는 전염되지 않는다는 피상적인 정보는 알고 있지만 국을 같이 떠먹고 세탁물을 함께 넣고 빨아도 되는지, 감염된 가족의 식기는 항상 소독을 해두어야 하는지 모든 것이 궁금할 것이다.
