The Effect of Community Spirit on Participation Time to the Youth Volunteer Activities -Mediating Effect of the Level of Satisfaction in Youth Volunteer Activities- (청소년의 자원봉사활동 참여시간이 공동체의식에 미치는 영향 -청소년 자원봉사활동 만족도 매개효과-)

  • This study aimed to concretely verify the mediating effect of the level of satisfaction of youth volunteer activities where the youth volunteer activities had the effect on community spirit. The data was collected from 927 students in 2091 students who participated in 5th [Korea Children Youth Panel Study] (KCYPS) in 2014. The results from the analyzed data are as follows. First, it was found that participation time to the youth volunteer activities had the meaningful effect on the youth's community spirit. Second, it was found that participation time to the youth volunteer activities had the meaningful effect on the level of satisfaction in youth volunteer activities. Third, it was found that there was a mediating effect between the participation time and community spirit when considering the level of satisfaction of volunteer activities. Based on the results of these studies, we proposed a volunteer education program for the scheme and the youth that it is possible to improve the satisfaction of the volunteer activities of young people to participate in volunteer activities.

Investigation of the Impacts of Adolescents' Volunteer Participation Motivation on Their Satisfaction and Leadership Living Skill Abilities (청소년의 자원봉사 참여동기가 자원봉사 만족도와 리더십 생활기술능력 함양에 미치는 영향 분석)

  • Adolescent volunteer, a kind of experience activity, can have positive influence on the improvements of sound personality, community ownership, and leadership living skill ability. However, its purpose is today declining because it tends to be only used for the adolescent university admission. This study investigates the impacts of adolescents' volunteer participation motivation(selfish and selfless) on leadership living skill ability(human relationship skill, group activity skill, learning skill, and self-understanding skill) and satisfaction. The study conducted a survey and utilized 222 questionnaires to examine these relationships. The results are as follows. First, selfless participation motivation had significant impacts on four leadership living skill abilities and satisfaction. Second, selfish participation motivation had no significance on four leadership living skill abilities, but had negative significance on satisfaction.

The Effects of Adolescents' Volunteer Activities on their Sense of Community - Focusing on the Mediating Role of Self-esteem and Peer Attachment - (청소년 자원봉사활동이 공동체 의식에 미치는 영향 -자아존중감과 또래애착의 매개역할을 중심으로-)

  • This study examines the effects of adolescents' volunteer activities on their development of sense of community. When examining the effects of volunteer activities, both quantity and quality sides of volunteer activities were considered in the research model and besides the direct effects of volunteer activities on their sense of community, the mediating role of self-esteem and peer attachment were also examined. The data set of conducted by National Youth Policy Institute was reanalyzed for this study. The subjects of this study were 1,426 first-grade middle school students who had experiences of volunteer activities. The results of the study are as follows. First, the total hours of volunteer activities and the satisfaction with volunteer activities were positively related to their sense of community respectively. In an integrative model which combines both quantity and quality aspects of volunteer activities, however, only the satisfaction with volunteer activities was found to be significant. This means that the satisfaction with and reflective learning after volunteer activities are more important sides of adolescents' volunteer activities than whether and how many times they had experiences in volunteer activities. Second, the satisfaction with volunteer activities was found to enhance adolescents' self-esteem and peer attachment and the changes in their personal traits again led to a higher sense of community. Therefore, both the direct effects of volunteer activities and indirect effects through self-esteem and peer attachment were proved. Based on the results of the study, the need and ways to improve the management system of adolescents' volunteer activities were suggested.

A Study on Effect of Volunteer Experience on Career Maturity among Youths (청소년의 자원봉사활동 경험이 진로의식 성숙에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, volunteer experience(motive, durability, satisfaction, content) was set up as an independent variable, career maturity degree(determinacy, involvement, independence, tendency) was set up as a dependent variable, and the average difference and effect of the sub factors for each of them were reviewed. For this purpose, questionnaires were performed with 519 students at the middle schools and high schools in Busan. With 376 students having volunteer experiences among them, an analysis was done to find out the effect of volunteer experience on career maturity. The results of this study are as follows: First, whether having volunteer experience or not affected the career maturity among youths. That is the group with volunteer experience had higher level of interest, involvement and value in career and jobs than the group without them. Second, it showed that volunteer experience affected career maturity among youths. Specifically, career maturity was higher as their motive for volunteer activities was selfish, their satisfaction for volunteer activities was higher and they had more volunteer activities.

The Effects of the Volunteering Satisfaction of Adolescents and their Attitudes towards School Violence: The Mediating Effects of Empowerment and Citizenship (청소년 봉사활동만족도가 학교폭력태도에 미치는 영향 - 임파워먼트와 시민의식의 매개효과)

  • This study aims to verify the mediating effect of empowerment and citizenship in the relations between the volunteering satisfaction of adolescents and attitudes towards school violence. For the purpose, the data of Middle school students, who are studying at school located in Gunpo and Bundang of Gyeonggi Province, and 612 of collected 748 questionnaires were analyzed. Confirmatory Factor Analysis(CFA) and Structural Equation Modeling(SEM) was utilized to test research effectiveness. This study results are as follow. First, the satisfaction of adolescents' volunteer work directly positively influenced adolescents' empowerment and citizenship. However, it was found that the satisfaction of adolescents' volunteer work did not directly affect adolescents' perception of school violence and their coping behavior on school violence. Second, in terms of the effect of the satisfaction of adolescents' volunteer work through their empowerment and citizenship on the perception of school violence among adolescents, it was revealed that the satisfaction of volunteer work through citizenship among adolescents had an indirect impact on adolescents' perception of school violence. However, the satisfaction of volunteer work through empowerment did not influence adolescents' perception of school violence. Third, in regard with the effect of adolescents' satisfaction of volunteer work through their empowerment and citizenship on coping behavior on school violence, adolescents' satisfaction of volunteer work through their empowerment and citizenship directly influenced coping behavior on school violence. Based on the results, It is suggested that when it comes to exploring adolescents' attitudes toward school violence, plans for heightening not only adolescents' satisfaction of volunteer work, their empowerment, but also their citizenship are necessary.

The Effect of Volunteering Activity on Democratic Citizen Consciousness as a Mediation of Adolescents' Leadership Living Technique (청소년의 리더십생활기술을 매개로 자원봉사활동이 민주시민의식에 미치는 영향)

  • This study searched the effect of volunteering activity on democratic citizen consciousness as a mediation of adolescents' leadership living technique. For this, it has been conducted that a survey for 386 middle and high school students in Chungcheongbuk-do. Main analysis results are as follows. First, searching the effect on democratic citizen consciousness, it is analyzed that volunteering activity participation satisfaction level(${\beta}=.215$), learning ability technique(${\beta}=.297$), group activity technique(${\beta}=.145$) have a positive(+) effect. Second, as a result of mediation effect, volunteering activity is confirmed that is meaningful as both a direct effect(.35) on democratic citizen consciousness and an indirect effect($.42{\times}.65=.29$) as leadership living technique and it is appeared as an partial mediation effect. Therefore, in order to improve adolescents' democratic citizen consciousness, active support for volunteering activity and overall efforts which are able to activate the leadership technique in real youth everyday life are necessary.

A Study on Self-directed Volunteer Camp for Church Education Programs (교회교육을 위한 자기주도적 봉사 캠프 프로그램 개발 및 적용)

  • Contemporary Christian educators emphasize that the student has to become not a passive beneficiaries of knowledge, but an active subject for self-directed learner to pursue a Bible training. In addition, learning environments need to be converted into a learning place in which students can learn the principles of the Word, taste its meaning, and apply them into the scene in their lives. This study is to investigate new possibilities of self-directed volunteer camp, developing it as an alternative program for summer retreat and evaluating its effectiveness. According to qualitative research findings. self-directed volunteer camp provide for the youth students to develop their leadership as well as their faith. Especially, the higher effect of self-directed volunteer camp was found on program satisfaction, promoting cooperation through real problem-solving, and internalizing of the faith. Therefore, self-directed volunteer camp for vacation Bible church programs can be expected as an alternative teaching method for church education in the 21st century.
