  • An experimental method to give a tangential follower force to a cantilever beam having a concentrated tip mass by the magnetic force of the electromagnet has been described. The dynamic behaviour of the beam under this nonconservative load has been analysed by experimentally as well as by theoretically. The theoretical and experimental results on the natural frequencies and the critical force of the systems are in good agreement with each other.

  • A linearly tapered beam immersed partially in other material is considered and is modelled as a linearly tapered Bernoulli-Euler beam fixed at the bottom with a concentrated mass at the top. Its governing equations is derived and its free vibration analysis is performed for various boundary conditions. And the rotatory inertia of the eccentric lumped tip mass is considered. The problem of determining the natural frequencies leads to an eighth order determinant. The solutions of the frequency equations are obtained numerically. The non-dimensional frequency parameters are given in tabular form and the influence of non-dimensional parameters on natural frequency is discussed for various conditions.

  • A long and light-weight forearm of the vertical 2 DOF robot manipulator with a heavy payload driven by parallel drive mechanism is modelled as a Euler-Bernoulli beam with a tip mass subjected to a high speed rotation. Governing equation is obtained by Hamilton's principle and represented as state variable form using the perturbed variables which describe the perturbed errors at the manipulator's final configuration. Digitial optimal control and observer theory are used to suppress the forearm vibration and control the positions of the joint angles with measured/estimated state feedback. Computer simulations and experimental results are obtained and compared each other.

  • A flexible one-link robotic manipulator is modelled as a rotating cantilever beam with a hub and tip mass. An active control law is developed with consideration of the distributed flexibility of the arm. Equation of motion is derived by Hamilton's principle and, for modal control, represented as state variable form using Galerkin's mode summation method. Feedback coefficients are chosen to minimize the linear quadratic performance index(PI). To reconstruct the complete state vector from the measurements, an observer is proposed. In order to suppress vibration of the manipulator arm to desirable extent and to obtain accuracy of the positioning, weighting factor of input in PI is adjusted. Spillover effect due to the controller which controls several important modes is examined. Experiment is also performed to validate the theoretical analysis.

  • Seismic design and analysis of nuclear power plant components are performed based on an decoupled model. However, this decoupled analysis has a limitation in that it generates inaccurate results compared to the coupled analysis because it cannot simulate actual phenomena such as the interaction between structures and components. Thus, this study performed seismic coupled and decoupled analysis on an existing nuclear containment structure and related components, considering the mass and natural frequency ratios. And based on these results, comparative analyses of responses of components were conducted. Consequently, the seismic coupled analysis result generally gave a smaller value than the decoupled analysis result. These results were similar to the analysis results for the simple coupled model, which was an existing study, but the difference in component responses was much more pronounced. Also, this was influenced by the installation location of the component rather than the influence of the input frequency of the input seismic motions. Finally, the difference between the decoupled and coupled seismic analysis occurred in the region where the mass ratio of the components was large, and the natural frequencies were almost similar due to the considerable dynamic interaction between the structure and the component in this realm.

  • A drop-on-demand inkjet is used widely for various applications. Therefore, it is important to understand the jetting behavior of the drop from the piezo inkjet. In this study, to predict the jetting behavior, VOF (Volume-of-Fluid) simulation techniques were used and compared with the experimental results. The experimentally measured meniscus movement was used as the input data for the simulation. To verify the simulation, the measured jetting behavior of the mixture fluids of ethylene glycol and IPA (isopropyl alcohol), which has a mixing ratio of 50:50, was used. The numerical simulation of the drop formation using various mixture ratios and its comparison with the measured drop formation confirmed that the proposed method can predict the actual jetting. On the other hand, the satellite drop behavior showed slight differences because the small sized droplet is subject to a more aerodynamic effect during flight because the kinetic energy of the satellite droplet is far smaller than that of the main droplet.

  • 핵융합반응은 초고온의 플라즈마 상태에서 가벼운 원자핵들이 융합하여 무거운 원자핵으로 바뀌는 현상으로, 이 과정에서 감소된 질량이 막대한 에너지로 변환되는데 이를 핵융합에너지라고 한다. 핵융합에너지는 인류의 에너지 위기를 극복할 수 있는 최적의 대체에너지이며, 무한, 청정, 고효율에너지이다. 이에 국가핵융합연구소(NFRI)는 Green Energy 의 개발과 핵융합에너지 상용화 기술을 개발하기 위해 핵융합연구장치인 KSTAR(Korea Superconducting Tokamak Adavanced Research)를 제작하여 장치의 운전연구 및 기술 확보에 힘을 쏟고 있다. 또한 핵융합 관련 파생기술을 활용한 첨단 신사업 창출에 기여하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 KSTAR 1st Plasma 실험 시 KSTAR 장치에 전력을 공급하기 위한 전력설비 현황, 전력품질분석, 전력사용량 분석을 통해 향후 KSTAR 장치 운전을 위해 필요한 수전설비 증설, 무효전력보상장치 증설 등과 같은 전력계통의 효율화와 안정화를 위한 개선사항에 대해 기술하였다.

The Prediction of Void Fraction in the Subcooled Boiling Region (서브쿨드 비등 영역에서의 기포계수 계산에 관한 연구)

  • A state-of-the-art mechanistic model has been developed to accurately predict the void fraction in the subcooled boiling region having axial nonuniform heat flux. In this study, the void-dependent drift-flux parameters of the Lahey/Ohkawa model were introduced and the mass flux-dependent condensation coefficient were determined by fitting with the experimental data. This model was tested against several experimental data sets to verify its accuracy. Finally the comparison between the predicted void fraction profiles with this model and the profile-fit model for the hot assembly of Kori-Unit 1, Cycle 1 has been performed. It is conclusive that the results show the good agreement between the measured and predicted void fractions, and the profile-fit model has been found to underestimate the void fraction in the subcooled boiling region.

Screening and Identification of a Cesium-tolerant Strain of Bacteria for Cesium Biosorption (환경유래의 세슘 저항성 균주 선별 및 세슘 흡착제거 연구)

  • One of the issues currently facing nuclear power plants is how to store spent nuclear waste materials which are contaminated with radionuclides such as $^{134}Cs$, $^{135}Cs$, and $^{137}Cs$. Bioremediation processes may offer a potent method of cleaning up radioactive cesium. However, there have only been limited reports on $Cs^+$ tolerant bacteria. In this study, we report the isolation and identification of $Cs^+$ tolerant bacteria in environmental soil and sediment. The resistant $Cs^+$ isolates were screened from enrichment cultures in R2A medium supplemented with 100 mM CsCl for 72 h, followed by microbial community analysis based on sequencing analysis from 16S rRNA gene clone libraries(NCBI's BlastN). The dominant Bacillus anthracis Roh-1 and B. cereus Roh-2 were successfully isolated from the cesium enrichment culture. Importantly, B. cereus Roh-2 is resistant to 30% more $Cs^+$ than is B. anthracis Roh-1 when treated with 50 mM CsCl. Growth experiments clearly demonstrated that the isolate had a higher tolerance to $Cs^+$. In addition, we investigated the adsorption of $0.2mg\;L^{-1}$ $Cs^+$ using B. anthracis Roh-1. The maximum $Cs^+$ biosorption capacity of B. anthracis Roh-1 was $2.01mg\;g^{-1}$ at pH 10. Thus, we show that $Cs^+$ tolerant bacterial isolates could be used for bioremediation of contaminated environments.
