The Effects of Cr-Substitution in Ferrite Catalysts and the Catalytic Dehydrogenation of Ethylbenzene (페라이트 촉매의 Cr 치환효과와 에틸벤젠의 탈수소반응)

  • Mg- and Zn-ferrites having spinel structure, a kind of complex oxides showing the advantageous properties of constituent single metal oxides, were selected to find a relationship between their catalytic activities in the dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene to styrene and the catalytic properties. For the structural and physical analyses of ferrites, XRD, BET, TG/DTA, ESCA, TEM, and TPD methods were employed. The effects of Cr-substitution were intensively studied by the experimental methods mentioned above. Chromium which showed a preferential tendency to diffuse to the surface acted as a structural promoter by increasing surface area and stability of catalyst structure. In the dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene, catalytic activity, and the effects of Cr-substitution were investigated. Oxygen mobility was decreased with the amount of Cr-substitution in $MgCr_xFe_{2-x}O_4$, which resulted in the increase of selectivity to styrene and the suppression of total oxidation.

Effects of Oil Refining Processes on Oxidative Stability and Antioxidative Substances of Sesame Oil (정제공정이 참기름의 항산화 물질과 산화 안정성에 미치는 영향)

  • Changes in antioxidative substances-sesamol, sesamin and sesamolin - and mineral contents of sesame oil during refining processes have been studied to investigate the oxidative stability of oils during the storage at $70^{\circ}C$. Fe, Cu, Mg and Zn were nearly removed from the oil by the degumming process. During storage, the changes of total volatile contents in crude and degummed sesame oil were not noticeable but those in alkali-refined and deodorized sesame oil were increased at early period of the storage. The increases of hexanal and pentanal were most noticeable and their concentration was increased markedly in alkali-refined, bleached and deodorized sesame oil at early period of the storage. During refining processes and storage, sesamin was relatively stable but the content of sesamolin was decreased. The content of sesamol was decreased until alkali-refining process but increased during a bleaching process. The content of sesamolin tended to decrease with increasing of sesamol during storage.

Protection of ROS-induced cytotoxicity and DNA damage by the extract of Alpinia of ficinarum (양강추출물의 활성산소종 유도 세포독성과 DNA 손상에 대한 방어효과)

  • The 70% ethanol extract of Alpinia officinarum and its major flavonoid, galangin showed strong antioxidative effect on the lipid peroxidation of ethyl linolate with Fenton's reagent and free radical scavenging effect to DPPH radical generation. However, they did not reveal any pro-oxidant effect on bleomycin-Fe(III) dependent DNA degradation. They also showed the protective effect against $H_2O$$_2$, KO$_2$ or UV-induced cytotoxicity in mammalian cells. They also showed the suppressive effect of DNA damage induced by $H_2O$$_2$ or KO$_2$ with dose-dependent manner in single cell gel electrophoresis(SCGE) assay. On the other hand, they have an anticlastogenic effect against adriamycin-induced micronucleated reticulocyte in peripheral blood of mice. These results suggest that the mechanism of inhibition by 70% ethanol extract of Alpinia officinarum and galangin against reactive oxygen species (ROS)-induced genotoxicity or cytotoxicity is due, at least partly, to their antioxidative and free radical scavenging properties without pro-oxidant effect. All these results indicate that 70% ethanol extract of Alpinia officinarum and galangin may be useful for protection against ROS-induced cytotoxicity and DNA damage.

Antioxidative Effect of Stachys japonica Miq Extract on Cultured NIH3T3 Fibroblasts Damaged by Ferrous chloride, Mordant (염화제일철 매염제로 손상된 배양 NIH3T3 섬유아세포에 대한 석잠풀 추출물의 항산화 효과)

  • The aim of this study was to examined the dermatoxicity of ferrous chloride (FeCl2) and the antioxidative effect of Stachys japonica Miq (SJ) extract on FeCl2-induced cytotoxicity. For this study, superoxide anion-radical (SAR)-scavenging and superoxide dismutase (SOD)-like abilities with cell viability were done. FeCl2 showed a significant decrease of cell viability in dose-dependent manner, and it was mid-toxic. The caffeic acid showed a significant increase of cell viability against FeCl2-induced cytotoxicity. In the protective effect of SJ extract on FeCl2-induced cytotoxicity, it showed SAR-scavenging and SOD-like abilities with a significant increase of cell viability. From these results, the cytotoxicity of FeCl2 is correlated with oxidative stress, and SJ extract effectively protected the cytotoxicity of FeCl2 by antioxidative effect. Conclusively, the natural resources like SJ extract may be a useful fundamental materials for the development of an alternative antioxidant.

Creep Properties of Grain Coarsened ODS MA NiAl (결정립 조대화된 기계적 합금화 ODS NiAl의 Creep 성질)

  • NiAI기 산화물 분산강화(Oxide Dispersion Strengthende:ODS)합금을 기계적 합금화 (Mechanical Alloying: MA)방법으로 제조하였으며, 열간압축방법으로 성형하였다. 연이어 단순항온처리에 의한 정상결정립성장과 특성조건에서의 thermomechanical treatment 에 의한 이차재결정화를 유도하였다. 결정립 조대화된 ODSD MA NiAI의 creep 성질 및 이에 조대화된 미세조직은 creep 성질이 저하된 반면, 이차재결정화된 MA NiAI의 creep성질은 크게 향상되었다. 이 creep 성질의 향상은 이차재결정화의 특성인 급격한 결정립의 조대화, 분산상의 성장억제 및 grain aspect ratio의 증가에 기인한 것으로 사료되었다. 이차재결정화된 ODS MA NiAI의 creep또는 glide controlled dislocation creep임을 제시하지만, 전체 creep속도가 결정립 크기 및 grain aspect ratio의 영향을 크게 받은 것을 볼 때, 결정립계 미끄럼기구가 주 creep 기구와 조합되어 MA NiAI의 전체 creep기구에 영향을 준 것으로 추정할 수 있었다.

  • 과산화수소(hydrogen peroxide, $H_2O$$_2$)는 광화학적 이차 생성물이며, 대기의 산화상태를 알려주는 지시자의 역할을 한다 과산화수소는 HO$_2$ 라디칼의 self-reaction 으로 생성된다. HO$_2$+HO$_2$+ M$\longrightarrow$$H_2O$$_2$+M, OH나 HO$_2$ 라디칼은 NOx나 hydrocarbon 과 같은 대표적인 오존 전구물질들을 산화시킨다. 대기 내수명이 불과 1초 이내인 OH나 HO$_2$ 라디칼을 직접 측정하기란 어려우며 수명이 1-2 일 정도인 $H_2O$$_2$를 측정하므로써 이들 라디칼의 대기 내 농도를 예측 할 수 있다.   • Ni 및 AI단원소 분말을 혼합하여 attrition mill을 사용하여 분위기 속에서 기계적 합금화 NiAI 기 산화물 분산강화 금속간화합물을 제조하였다. 제조된 분말은 여러 가지 다른 미세조직을 얻기 위하여 각기 다른 공정으로 열간성형을 하였으며, 연이어 이차 재결정 조직을 얻기 위한 가공열처리(thermomechanical treatment)를 실시하였다. 이차 재결정이 일어날 수 있는 선수조건으로서의초기 미세조직과 가공열처리와의 상관관계를 조사하였다. 정상 결정립 성장의억제와 접합조직의 존재가 이차 재결정을 일으키기 위한 필요조건으로 판명되었다. 이 재료에 있어서, 잔류 변형에너지를 공급할 수 있고 결정립을 미세화 할 수 있는 특정 공정하에서 항온 열처리 후 이차 재결정이 생성됨을 알 수 있었다.

  • To effectively utilize resources of reject ash and dredged soil, globular shape-formed artificial lightweight aggregate were manufactured in 8~10 mm size. Starting materials were changed various grading and composition, sintered at $1050{\sim}1250^{\circ}C$. The specific gravity, water absorptance of artificial lightweight aggregates were measured on the basis of the KS. In this study could make a prediction about application of bloating mechanism by ferrous materials and alkali/alkali-earth oxide at high temperature.

  • The multi-layer oxide buffer layer for the coated conductor was deposited on biaxially textured Ni substrates using pulsed laser deposition. Oxygen partial pressure, 4%$H_2$/Ar partial pressure, and deposition temperature were deposition variables investigated to find the optimum deposition conditions. $Y_2$O$_3$seed layer was deposited epitaxially on metal substrate. The full buffer architecture of $Y_2$O$_3$/YSZ/CeO$_2$was successfully prepared on metal substrate.

  • LaMnO$_3$에 Ca을 치환한 Mn계 perovskite 구조(ABO3)의 물질에서 초거대자기저항 현상이 발견된 이후 R$_{1-x}$$^{3+}$ A$_{x}$$^{2+}$MnO$_3$(R=La, Nd, Pr: 희토류금속, A=Ca, Sr, Ba, Cd, Pb; 2가 양이온)계의 Mn 산화물의 연구가 고감도 자기 저항 센서와 자기기록 등의 활용가능성을 중심으로 활발히 진행되고 있다. 자기적 특성이 뛰어난 초거대자기저항물질에 대한 미시적인 자성에 대한 연구는 그 메커니즘이 복잡하고 다양한 접근방식에 따른다. (중략)
