The Study on Thermal Analysis and Thermodynamic Characteristics of Spinel Compounds(ZnCo2O4, NiCo2O4) (스피넬 구조를 가지는 전이금속화합물(ZnCo2O4, NiCo2O4)의 열적 분석 및 열역학적 특성 연구)

  • The spinel compound was obtained by the thermal decomposition of Zn-Co and Zn-Ni gel prepared by sol-gel method using oxalic acid as a chelating agent. The formation of spinel compound has been comfirmed by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), x-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and infrared spectroscopy (IR). The particle size of 13 nm~16 nm was calculated by Scherrer's equation. The sol-gel method provides a practicable and effective route for the synthesis of the spinel compound at low temperature ($350^{\circ}C$). The kinetic parameters such as activation energy (Ea) and pre-exponential factor (A) for each compound were found by means of the Kissinger method and Arrhenius equation. The decomposition of spinel compound has an activation energy about 155 kJ/mol. Finally, the thermodynamic parameters (${\Delta}G^{\varphi}$, ${\Delta}H^{\varphi}$, ${\Delta}S^{\varphi}$) for decomposition of spinel compound was determined.

  • This report present the result of the national survey of pediatric surgeons' preferences on diagnosis and treatment of Hirschsprung's disease(HD) carried out in 1993. The questionnaires were sent to twenty-seven members of the Korean Association of Pediatric Surgeons (KAPS) working in twenty-four institutions. The questionnaires were designed to determine the individual surgeon's preference for the methods of diagnosis and treatment of the disease. Twenty-three pediatric surgeons from twenty institutions returned completed forms. The total number of patients diagnosed with HD in 1992 was 190 in this group. The estimated incidence of HD was 1/3,900. The most important symptom was delayed meconium passing and the most preferred diagnostic procedure was barium study. Anorectal manometric examination was carried out by 13 pediatric surgeons and 19 confirmed the diagnosis before operation by rectal biopsy, 12 with full-thickness biopsy and 7 with suction. Frozen section biopsy during operation was done by 22 surgeons. Eight surgeons did one stage operation if the age of the patient is suitable. Definitive operation was usually done at the age of 6 to 11 months. The most preferred operation was Duhamel procedure done by 19. Enterocolitis was the most serious complication of HD. Most of patients had normal continence within 6 to 12 months after operation. The follow-up period was less than 6 years in 16 surgeons. The results were presented at the 9th annual meeting of KAPS in June of 1993. This is the first national survey of HD and it can provide guidelines of diagnosis and treatment of Hirschprung's disease even though it is not a detailed study of patient data.

Petrology and Geochemical Characteristics of A-type Granite with Particular Reference to the Namsan Granite, Kyeongju (경주 남산일대의 A-형 화강암의 암석학 및 지화학적 특성)

  • Petrological and geochemical characteristics of A-type granite were studied from the Namsan and Tohamsan granites in the vicinity of Kyeongju city, southeastern Korea. The Namsan granite consists of hypersolvus alkali-feldspar granite in the northern part and subsolvus alkali-feldspar to biotite granite in the southern part. This hypersolvus granite usually has miarolitic cavities and is characteristically composed of quartz, single homogeneous one-feldspar (alkali feldspar) forming tabular microperthite crystals, or micrographic intergrowth with quartz, and interstitial biotite (Fe-rich annite), alkali amphibole (riebeckitic arfvedsonite) and fluorite. Petrographic and petrochemical characteristics indicate that the hypersolvus granite and subsolvus granite from the Namsan belogn to the A-type and I-type granitoid, respectively. The A-type granite is petrochemically distinguished from the I-type Bulgugsa granites of Late Cretaceous in South Korea, by higher abundance of $SiO_2$, $Na_2O$, $Na_2O+K_2O$, large highly charged cations such as Rb, Nb, Y, Zr, Ga, Th, Ce. U the REEs and Ga/Al ratio, and lower abundance of $TiO_2$, $Al_2O_3$, CaO, $P_2O_5$, MnO, MgO, Ba, Sr, Eu. The total abundance of REEs is 293 ppm to 466 ppm, showing extensively fractionated granitic compositon, and REEs/chondrite normalized pattern shows flat form with strong Eu '-' anomaly ($Eu/Eu^{\ast}$=0.03-0.05). A-type granite from the Namsan area is thought to have been generated late in the magmatic/orogenic cycle after the production of I-type granite and by direct, high-temperature partial melting of melt-depleted, relatively dry tonalitic/granulitic lower crustal material with underplating by mantle-derived basaltic magmas associated with subduction.

A Statistical Study of the Foreign Bodies in the Air Passages (기도 이물의 임상통계적 고찰)

  • The statistical study was done on 74 cases of foreign bodies in the air passages, who visited the department of otolaryngology of SNUH during recent 5 years from 1975 to 1980. The result was as follows, 1) Of the total 74 cases, 55 cases were male and 18 cases were female. The ratio between male and female was 3 : 1. 41.8% of all-cases were under 2 years of age, 75.5% were under 3 years, and 83.6% were under 5 years. 2) Major symptoms on visit were dyspnea, cough, cyanosis. No significant symptoms was noted in 6.7%. Initial physical findings were coarse breathing sound, decreased breathing sound, and stridor. No abnormal physical findings were noted in 10.8%. 3) 48.6% of total cases visited hospital within 24 hours. There was one case who visited hospital over 2 years later. 4) Initial simple chest film showed atelectasis in 25.0%, emphysema in 32.8%, definite foreign body shadow in 17.2% and within normal limit in 17.2%. 5) 60.8% of total cases were vegetables, 15.5% were metals, 16.2% were fish bone, and 2.7 % were others. 6) Vegetables were most frequent foreign bodies in the cases under 5 years of age. 7) 40.5% of total cases were lodged in the right main bronchus, 31.0% were in the left main bronchus, 9.8% were in trachea and 6.7% were in multiple sites, 8) Foreign bodies were removed by ventilating bronchoscopy in 82.3%, by tracheostomy only in 2.7%, by tracheal suction in 2.7%, by spontaneous removal in 1.3%, by thorachotomy in 5.4% and 5.4% of total cases were expired.

  • The meat samples of carp (Cyprinus carpio, Linne) and rainbow trout (Salmo gairdnerii) packaged in aluminum pouches with polyethylene adjuvant were exposed to gamma radiation of doses up to 1.5 Mrad for the purpose of determining optimum dose range required to bring about a significant storage-life extension at refrigerated temperatures. The maximum permissible dose for carp was determined to be 1.5 Mrad and that for rainbow trout 0.2 Mrad, while the optimum dose was 0.25 Mard and 0.05 Mrad, respectively. By irradiating them at each optimum dose, the practical storage-life of carp could be extended from one week to five at both $0^{\circ}\;and\;5^{\circ}C$ and that of rainbow trout from one week to 3-4 weeks at $0^{\circ}C$ and from 3 days to 14 days at $5^{\circ}C$. The carp meat suffered from extensive drip loss during the post-irradiation storage and it could be reduced effectively by dipping the samples into 10% polyphosphate solution prior to the radurization treatment. The rainbow trout was highly radiosensitive, while carp appeard to one of promising species to be radurization treated for the purpose of extending storage-life at refrigerated temperatures.

Improvement of High-fat Diet-induced Obesity by Xanthigen in C57BL/6N Mice (잔티젠(Xanthigen)에 의한 고지방식이로 유도된 비만 개선 효과)

  • Obesity is a risk factor for numerous metabolic diseases. Recently, naturally occurring compounds that may improve obesity have received increasing attention. Xanthigen is a mixture of fucoxanthin and punicic acid derived from brown seaweed and pomegranate seed, respectively, which have been traditionally used for lipid-lowering effects in humans. In this study, we investigated whether Xanthigen attenuates high-fat diet-induced obesity in C57BL/6N mice. The mice were fed on a normal diet (ND), high-fat diet (HFD), HFD plus 1% Xanthigen or HFD plus 1% green tea extract (GTE) for 11 weeks. Food efficiency ratio (FER) and body weight were significantly reduced in mice fed HFD plus Xanthigen compared to HFD-fed mice. Consistent with the results in body weight change, Xanthigen also significantly decreased the weights of epididymal adipose tissue, retroperitoneal adipose tissue, and liver in HFD plus 1% Xanthigen-fed mice. The serum level of low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol was significantly decreased in HFD plus Xanthigen-fed mice compared to HFD-fed mice. These results suggest that Xanthigen may be useful in the development of a functional health food for anti-obesity.

Preparation of Silicon Tetrachloride by Chlorination of Silicon (실리콘의 염소화반응에 의한 사염화규소 제조)

  • The chlorination of a metallurgical-grade silicon was carried out in a fluidized bed reactor, 25 mm in diameter. The flow rate of the chlorine admitted into the reactor was 0.2 L/min and that of the carrier nitrogen was 0.8~1.0 L/min. The reactor temperature was maintained at $450^{\circ}C$ and the temperature of the coolant at the $SiCl_4$ condenser was at $-5^{\circ}C$. The $SiCl_4$ yield increased with increasing the mole fraction of chlorine in the feed gas, exhibiting 28% at the mole fraction of 0.2. Further increase of the chlorine mole fraction was not attempted in a worry that the reactor might be failed due to the high exothermicity of the reaction. The production of $SiCl_4$ from silicon by fluidized bed chlorination was demonstrated on a laboratory scale, which is a stepping stone for future studies under more severe conditions toward industrial application.

growth of Cadmium Sulfide (CdS) Thin Film by Solution Growth Technique and Study of Quantum Size Effects (용액성장법에 의한 Cadmium Sulfide(CdS) 박막 성장 및 양자 사이즈 효과에 관한 연구)

  • 본 연구에서는 용액성장법에 의해 양자 입자로 구성된 CdS 박막을 슬라이드 유리기 판위에 성장시키고 이들의 구조적 광학적 특성에 대하여 연구하였고 이들 결과를 토대로 용 액성장법으로 성장된 CdS 박막의 양자 사이즈 효과에 대하여 연구하였다. 성장시간은 1, 3, 10, 20분이었고 성장온도는 75$^{\circ}C$였다. X-선 회절 분석결과 본 연구에서 합성된 CdS 박막은 hexagonal상의 결정구조를 갖는 것으로 나타났고 성장시간에 따라 막의 투께는 61~195nm, 입자사이즈는 8.5~22.5nm로 나타났다. 광에너지 변화에 따른 투과도 측정결과 본 연구의 CdS 시료는 성장시간에 따라 에너지 밴드갭이 2.43~2.51 eV로 나타나서 벌크 CdS의 에너 지 밴드갭인 2.42 ev보다 높은 에너지 밴드갭을 갖게 되어 양자 사이즈 효과에 의한 blue shift 현상이 용액성장법에 의해 합성된 CdS 시료에도 존재한다는 것이 밝혀졌다 그리고 이 같은 용액성장법으로 성장된 CdS에 대해 최초로 수행된 Raman 산란 실험결과 이성장방법 으로 성장된 CdS에는 1TO, E2, 1LO 포논 모드가 존재함을 알수 있었고 또한 입자 사이즈 감소에 의한 1LO포논 모드의저주파수 shift 현상 즉 포논 모드의 softening 현상이 있음이 밝혀졌고 softening은 최대6.2%까지 발생하였다. 이와같은 높은 softening은 본연구의 CdS 박막 내 양자 입자의 입도가 작은것에 기인하는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 또한 본 CdS 시료의 양 자 사이즈 효과의 결과로 1TO 포논도 나타났는데 이 1TO 포논과 E2 포논의 Raman shift 는 성장시간 즉 막의 두께와는 무관한 것으로 나타났다.행렬모형(二重比例行列模型)을 이용하여, 산업구조의 변화로 인한 직업별 인력수요 변화가 충분히 고려되도록 하였다. 전망의 결과에 따르면 향후 우리 경제는 지식기반경제(knowledge-based economy)로 이행하고 있다고 볼 수 있다. 우선 산업구조면에서 지식집약적산업으로의 구조조정이 일어나게 되고 이에 따라 산업별 취업구조에서도 고기술산업의 취업준비중이 급속히 증가하게 된다. 직업별 취업분포에 있어서도 전문기술직 행정관리직 등의 고숙련 사무직의 비중은 크게 증가하는 반면 생산관련직과 농림어업직의 비중은 감소하게 된다. 이처럼 경제가 지식집약화되어 감에 따라 고학력자에 대한 수요는 지속적으로 증가하지만 현재 적절한 인력양성과 공급이 이루어지지 않고 있어 향후 기술이나 기능에 따른 수급부일정(需給不一政)(skill mismatch)현상이 매우 심해질 것으로 보인다. 따라서 앞으로의 인력정책에서 가장 주안점을 두어야 할 부분은 첨단기술산업과 관련된 인력의 양성에 있다고 하겠다.2시간까지 LPDG용액은 MEC용액보다 비교적 나은 회복을 보였고 재관류 3일과 7일의 폐기능 평가에서 두 용액 모두에서 폐기능의 점차적 소실을 보였으며 이는 병리조직검사에서 보듯이 폐혐에 의한 외적인 요소라고 생각되며 따라서 LPDG용액은 허혈재관류손상 방지 및 급성폐렴 등 염증을 잘 관리한다면 20시간 이상 LPDG용액의 안전한 폐보존의 가능성 을 얻을 수 있었다.ic 형태로 외래유전자가 발현되었지만 대조구에서 87.0% (26/30개) 배반포기가 $\beta$-Gal 활력을 보인 반면, G418 처리구에서는 모든 배반포기가 $\beta$-Gal 활력을 보였다 (P<0.05). 그러나 대조구 및 G418 처리구의 ICM

Efficient Connection of Migration Routes with Their Weights Using EGOSST (EGOSST를 이용한 이동 경로의 가중치를 반영한 효과적 연결)

  • In this paper, a mechanism connecting all weighted migration routes with minimum cost with EGOSST is proposed. Weighted migration routes may be converted to weighted input edges considered as not only traces but also traffics or trip frequencies of moving object on communication lines, roads or railroads. Proposed mechanism can be used in more wide and practical area than mechanisms considering only moving object traces. In our experiments, edge number, maximum weight for input edges, and detail level for grid are used as input parameters. The mechanism made connection cost decrease average 1.07% and 0.43% comparing with the method using weight minimum spanning tree and weight steiner minimum tree respectively. When grid detail level is 0.1 and 0.001, while each execution time for a connecting solution increases average 97.02% and 2843.87% comparing with the method using weight minimum spanning tree, connecting cost decreases 0.86% and 1.13% respectively. This shows that by adjusting grid detail level, proposed mechanism might be well applied to the applications where designer must grant priority to reducing connecting cost or shortening execution time as well as that it can provide good solutions of connecting migration routes with weights.

The study on the measurement of volatile organic compounds in the air of A and B industrial area (모 공단 대기 중 휘발성 유기화합물 측정에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, the air pollution in A and B industrial area has become one of the most important issues, then 60 VOCs in the area were measured using a highly sensitive method. The VOCs were adsorbed onto Carbotrap using air sampler and subsequently desorbed by a thermal desorber system into gas chromatograph-mass spectrometry (TDS-GC-MS). The peaks of all compounds had good chromatographic properties and offered very sensitive response for the EI-MS (SIM). Method detection limits (MDL) ranged from 0.01 to 0.1 ppt(v/v), and linearities of calibration curves were over 0.995. We analyzed total 90 atmosphere air samples of A and B industrial complex using the method. Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylene, n-hexane, fluorotrichloromethane, carbon tetrachloride, 1,2-dichloroethane, 1,1,1-trichloroethane, trichloroethylene, tetrachloroethylene, styrene, 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene, 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene, sec-butylbenzene and naphthalen were identified as the major compounds in the air, and their average concentrations were 0.81, 5.02 1.30, 3.0, 0.81, 37.9, 0.07, 0.15, 0.15, 0.79, 0.06, 0.33, 0.03, 0.12, 0.23, and 0.35 ppb(v/v), respectively. The concentrations of VOCs were low in summer and high in fall or winter. When the concentrations detected in air compare with WHO's norm, no case exceed it.
