A Study on the Priority of High-Speed Railway Customer Service Quality Factors Using AHP (AHP를 활용한 고속철도 고객 서비스품질 요인 우선순위에 관한 연구)

  • Today, high-speed rail is gradually increasing in importance as an eco-friendly means of transportation responsible for the movement of people between regions. In the past, problems of inefficiency continued due to monopolistic operation of the railway industry, and with the introduction of a public enterprise competition system, KTX and SRT operating organizations are making efforts to expand service quantity and improve quality. However, the high-speed rail service quality evaluation was limited to modifying and supplementing indicators from the operator's perspective suitable for past quality evaluations, and the evaluation target or method was not specific. Therefore, in this study, we developed a hierarchical model to measure high-speed rail customer service quality based on the model of Brady and Cronin(2001) and applied the analytical hierarchical decision-making method(AHP) to derive the priorities of Korea's high-speed rail competitiveness factors. Based on the results, it is believed that introducing reasonable and standardized service quality indicators will contribute to establishing a marketing strategy to improve the customer service competitiveness of high-speed rail operators.

Grouting Performance for the Reinforcement of Operating Railway Roadbed (운영 중인 철도노반 보강을 위한 그라우팅 성능)

  • This paper discusses about the reinforcement materials and construction method in order to cope with roadbed settlement in operating railway. In Korea, concrete tracks have been introduced to urban railways, high-speed railways, and general railways, but some recently constructed concrete tracks have experienced roadbed settlements. Reinforcement of the railway roadbed is urgent task for safe operation of railway, but it is difficult to reinforce the roadbed and there are no case history of reinforcing railway roadbed under an operating railroad track. Therefore, in this study, the target performance level for roadbed reinforcement was determined, and infiltration and solidity injection efficiency were investigated for selected reinforcement materials. As a result of the study, it was found that the generally used reinforcement materials and methods for geotechnical works need to be improved for applying in railway roadbed reinforcement.

Measuring the Efficiency in Korean Railway Transport using Data Envelopment Analysis (자료포락분석 기법을 이용한 우리나라 철도수송의 효율성 측정)

  • The objective of this paper is to measure the relative technical efficiency of Korean railway transport service. Previous studies on the efficiency in Korean railway service have carried out before the structural reform of Korean railway industry in 2004, whereas this study used the latest data which reflected the impact of reform. We analyzed the efficiency in Korean railway transport by means of measuring the technical efficiencies of other countries, these were estimated with data envelopment analysis. Using data from 22 railway operators over the period $2000{\sim}2006$, the results indicate that the Korean railway transport has been operated efficiently as compared with others.

Calculating and Improving Operational Decision-Making Indices for Public Railways by Inclusion of Non-economic Factors (비경제성 요소를 포함한 철도운행 의사결정을 위한 지표 산정 및 개선에 관한 연구)

  • In many cases, operation of regional trunk lines is not profitable to railway operators. Nevertheless, railway operators are under pressure to manage regional trunk lines running under deficits, to better serve public interests. Given this situation, railway operators need to optimize assets by adjusting train schedules or changing the number of trains running. When railway operators judge the operation of a regional trunk line, the B/C ratio is generally used as a management index. This ratio is not considered part of strategic operational policy over the long term, and excessively influenced by the aspects of supply and demand over the short term. Accordingly, this study focused on indices that might be used to prevent worsening deficits and provide long term strategic operation policies, main indices to better measure economic situations, and auxiliary indices to supplement the main index. The main indices were measured in conventional ways to target experts and employees. This study presents quantitative standards, which are intended to be used to create itemized criteria through an Analytic Hierarchy Process, for better decision-making.

A Study on Pantograph Sliding Plate Abrasion Measurement and Management using CCD(Charge-Coupled Device) Camera (전하결합소자(CCD : Charge-Coupled Device) 카메라를 이용한 판타그라프 습판마모 자동측정 및 관리방안 연구)

  • The Advanced countries including Japan, USA and European countries are adopting automatic system(e.g., auto-measurement using CCD camera) for measuring pantograph sliding plate and wheel abrasion to minimize manpower for E.M.U(Electric Multiple Unit) inspection and maintenance as part of management rationalization of railroad Corporation since late 1980's. In Korea, as part of scheme of business rationalization, automatic system for measuring pantograph sliding plate and wheel abrasion started to draw industry attention since late 1990s, and the system started to be installed in newly built depots of Korea Railroad Corporation since 2002. This study hopefully provides the base for realizing business rationalization and applying the advanced technology developed by Korea, the country of powerful IT basis, to overseas railroad organizations by examining automatic system for measuring pantograph sliding plate abrasion using existing CCD cameras produced domestically and in foreign countries to study cases(organizations in Korea) for improvement of measurement, management and inspection of pantograph sliding plate abrasion using CCD cameras with new cutting-edge technology; and by applying the study result to railroad organizations in metropolitan areas in Korea.
