A Study on Development and Application of Evaluation Index for Rail Station Area Development Site Using AHP (AHP 분석을 통한 역세권 개발 입지 평가 지표 개발 및 적용)

  • This study proposed evaluation indices and weights for objectively evaluating the validity of rail station area development site. In this study, evaluation indices were selected by quantification, application of a new rail station, sustainability of data collection, correlation of indices and expert decision-making. As a result, 8 indices such as railway and subway demand, the ratio of land price etc. were selected and these indices could be classified into demand, feasibility and regionality. AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) result showed that the weights of demand (0.486) and feasibility (0.369) were more important than that of regionality (0.145). The application result on 75 existing railway stations showed that an important consideration of railway station area development site was a rail and subway demand on Seoul metropolitan area and was a feasibility on local area. Therefore, the selection of a rail station area development site may be determined based on demand and feasibility. In addition, these results are expected to be utilized as basic data for making decisions on the rail station area development at an initial stage.

A Study on the Location Determinants for the Sales of Railroad Convenience Stores - With Focus on the Convenience Store "Storyway" - (철도역사 편의점 매출에 영향을 미치는 입지요인에 관한 연구 : 스토리웨이(Storyway)를 중심으로)

  • This study was conducted to determine the location determinants that influence the sales of the "Storyway" convenience stores built at the country's railway stations. The preceding studies were about the convenience stores located in the residence-business areas or along the roadsides. This study, on the other hand, focused on the characteristics of the stations, based on a theory that is different from the existing theories. The targets of this study were the 301 "Storyway" convenience stores doing business in the 198 railway stations in the country, and the dummy parameter and hedonic-price model function were used for multiple regression analysis. For the study results, it was found that the number of people using the railway and the size of the store have a positive effect on the sales whereas the other brand competitors have a negative effect thereon. Second, the subway stations holding 89% of the total passengers in the country have unexpectedly no positive influence on the sales. Third, depending on the transfer, it was found that no transfer station had smaller sales than the transfer stations. Finally, as for the location of the stores in the station, the stores located on the platforms or passageways have a smaller turnover rate than the stores in the welcoming spaces and squares. This research result shows that when starting a convenience store business, the number of people using the railway, the size of the store, the transfer possibility, and the location of the store inside the station have to be considered under the circumstance of recession on the part of the convenience stores due to excessive competition.

A Study on the Design Improvement of Sign System in Gimpo Urban Railway Station (김포 도시철도역 사인시스템 디자인 개선에 관한 연구)

  • This study investigated the current status of the design and direction of improvement of the sign system of urban railway stations in the Seoul metropolitan area to see how difficult it is for users to use. As a research method, first, a theoretical study on the literature of the urban railway sign system, second, a survey on the current status of the sign design of the Gimpo Goldline in the Seoul metropolitan area, and third, a survey on the actual use of the sign and problems was conducted. As a result of the current status survey, the location sign is in central alignment with the font of the guide sign, and the guidance sign is in front/back alignment according to the location of the entrance and exit. The background of the font is white and the text is dark black to make it look good to the user. On the other hand, guidance sign is written in white color and background color is gray color. Currently, the Gimpo Urban Railway Guidance Sign System is newly produced and installed, but there is a lack of user design and needs design maintenance that can clearly deliver information to users.

  • This study has the goal of analyzing the techniques and characteristics of urban development, after additionally constructing the high-speed railway in Japan's Kyushu district and building a new railway station to enable the existing traditional stations accommodate with the high-speed railway. Such analysis is made in order to draw the conclusion of its intended (designed) meaning and attributes and to further research on finding an applicable urban development method in the domestic railway station development. The object of this study includes examples of stations renewed within the five years when Shinkansen in the Kyushu district was extended or stations which are in process of development such as Hakata station, Kumamoto station, and Kagoshima-chuo station. From the analysis of this study, the strategies are as follows.; active connecting both geographical location and function of Station, re-establishment of relation with city center and Station, establishment of close linking system for both tourist spot development, methods of Shinkansen line construction and extension a development opposite site of railway, securing the living population from high density & Mixed use development of Station Building.

Guideline for Railway Naming System of Line and Station (철도지명의 결정기준과 체계에 관한 기초연구)

  • There are lots of examples for naming railway lines and stations in Korea. In general, we can specify some type of principles for making names at the railway lines. The first, rail line name made some decision considering the origin and destination name of city or region. The second type of a decision making is the location or service areas of that railway line or station. And other one is about the destination city or region of that corridor line. In this paper, we classified the name of the railway line according to above three types of decision principles, and then suggested the guideline and future directions preventing any confusion to make a new railway line name afterwards.

  • Today, many studies are conducted on searching for criminals in railroad stations using intelligent surveillance system. In the 1st stage, this study conducted a simulation of the system which searches for a criminal using a DB containing information on former convicts (DB on high risk former convicts), when a crime has taken place in a railroad station. Then, in the 2nd stage, this study has developed a simulation that can search for people who is wearing the same color clothes as the criminal and are found near the station, once the color of clothes of the criminal has been entered.

An Experimental Study on the Aerodynamic Effects Generated by a Train Passing Rear by Platform (철도차량의 승강장 통과시 발생하는 공기역학적 영향에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • The aerodynamic effect on platform during the train passage, the results of field test on the high-speed railway platform are discussed and the whole test results and conclusions are synthesized. The field test for the high-speed railway have been conducted on the Osong temporary platform in the newly constructed Seoul-Busan high-speed line and total 12 measurements have been conducted for G7 train and KTX train. The results shows that the high-speed trains have similar aerodynamic characteristics and have far better characteristics referring to the conventional trains such as Saemaul and Mugungwha trains. To discuss the actual aerodynamic effects on the platform at its own operational speed, Beaufort wind scale have been introduced and the criteria for the safety on railway platform has also been discussed.

  • This study analyzes the travel behavior for short-term demand forecasting model of KTX. This research suggests the following. First, the outlier criteria is considered to appropriate twice the standard deviation of the traffic. Second, the result of a homogeneity test using ANOVA analysis has been divided into weekdays(Mon Thu and weekends(Fri Sun). Third, a cluster analysis for O/D pairs using trip frequency, traffic averages and th distance between stations was performed.

  • A series of filed tests have been performed to investigate the aerodynamic effects on platform of the railway station during the passage of train that can be unpleasant and even dangerous to the pedestrians. To assess the aerodynamic effects on the platform, two aerodynamic properties has been measured; one is the wind gust induced by the train and the other is the pressure pulses generated when the nose and the tail of train passes. To measure these aerodynamic properties during the train passage, an array of hot-wire type anemometers and several sets of pressure transducers have been used, respectively. This paper deals with the filed test on conventional railway at about l00km/h operational speed, in which total 34 measurements has been made at the Bugok station in Seoul-Busan line for Saemaul and Mugungwha train. The results showed dramatic differences in the aerodynamic features between the two trains that are supposed to originate from the contrasting nose shapes of the trains.

Influence of Railway on Korean City Structure in the Early $20^{th}$ Century (20세기 초 철도부설에 따른 우리나라 도시 구조의 변화에 관한 연구)

  • The objective of this study is to describe the influence of railway and railway station on the change of city structure in Korea in the early 20th century. In the 1900s, railway was constructed in Japanese concessions and in new pore cities such as Incheon, Busan, and Wonsan. In the 1920s, railroad construction became related with the cities, which could produce the corps. In the 1930s, railroad also became related to the colonial industrial cities. Traditional city structure was then completely changed because new city structure was focused on not Seoul but Japan or harbors towards Japan. So Korean cities, which were netted by railway, had become the subsystem of Japan in the early 20th century. Korean cities have developed on the basis of this system until 1945. For example, the twelve main cities were chosen through the relationship with Japanese life, and the provincial office governments moved near railroad stations. However nowadays, these cities have possibilities of being international cities, such as Incheon and Busan, because of the extroversion of these cities.
