Fast bridge construction has been increasingly needed according to the changed construction environment. This paper deals with quasi-static tests on precast piers for bridge substructures. One of the most crucial aspect of the design of precast prestressed concrete bridge piers is the seismic performance. Seven precast pier elements were fabricated. The amount of prestressing bars, the prestressing force, and the location and number of the joint between segments were the main test parameters. Test results showed that the introduced axial prestress made the restoration of the deformation under small lateral displacement and minor damage. However, there was no effect of the prestress when the plastic hinge region was damaged severely due to large lateral displacement. Judging from the observed damage, the design of the joints in precast piers should be done for the first joint between the foundation and the pier segment. The amount of the necessary prestressing steel may be designed to satisfy the P-M diagram according to the service loads, not by having the same steel ratio as normal RC bridge piers. In order to satisfy the current required displacement ductility, it is necessary to have the same amount of the transverse reinforcements as RC piers. As the steel ratio increases, the energy absorption capacity increases. The number of joints showed a little influence on the energy absorption capacity.
Among many connection methods of reinforcing bar, the grout-filled splice sleeve system is very effective method of precast concrete construction due to its superior construction efficiency, such as large allowable limit to arrangement of reinforcing bars, good application of large sized reinforcing bars. In this study, totally 20 full-sited specimens were made and tested under monotonic and cyclic loading in order to extend the usage range of grout-filled splice sleeve system. The experimental variables adopted in this study are size of reinforcing bars embedded in upper and lower part of sleeve and compressive strength of filled mortar etc. After test was performed, the results were compared and analyzed with respect to previous test of author. Following main conclusions are obtained : 1) The structural performance of splice sleeve system is improved with increasing compressive strength of filled mortar. And also it was verified that the splice sleeve system with over 700 kgf/㎠ mortar compressive strength and over 6.54 development length of reinforcing bar retains the structural performance of over A class(AIJ Criteria). 2) In the case of using different size of reinforcing bars embedded in upper and lower part of sleeve, the result show that splice sleeve matching with large sized reinforcing bar must be used. And also up to 2 level smaller size of reinforcing bar compared to large reinforcing bar embedded in sleeve can be used.

The panels are used as a composite part of the completed deck. They replace the main bottom transverse deck reinforcement and also serve as a form surface for the cast-in-place concrete upper layer that contains the top of deck reinforcement. However, in order to apply the precast panels to bridges properly, it is necessary to fully understand the structural characteristics of joint in precast panels. Particularly, since the bridge deck is under repeated loads such as traffic loads, fatigue behavior and characteristics of joint should be investigated. In this paper, fatigue tests of composite deck with shear ties and loop joints were conducted. The fatigue tests were conducted with an application of repeated loading and wheel loading. Test results were analyzed to examine the current design code for fatigue of reinforcement bar and serviceability under repeated loading.

The spiral provides the column with the ability to absorb considerable deformation prior to failure. Although this toughness is the principal gain that is achieved by the use of spiral reinforced columns, the its serviceability is limited by the fault of lap splices. The mechanical connection for the spiral bar placement is development in the study. The study contains for the experiment of the mechanical connection.

The purpose of this research is focused on evaluating the flexural behavior of reinforced concrete beam having 22mm diameter re-bars by lapping methods. To compare the existent lapping method with mechanical lapping methods, four cases of concrete beams were tested to be failed flexurally by monotonic loading. Based on test results, the relations between load and displacement, ductility, maximum load was comparatively analyzed. The structural performance on four cases of members were evaluated.

Headed bars have used to the anchoring of the tension or compression longitudinal bars and of the shear reinforcing bars. Recently, lap splices of headed bars are attempted to the joints of precast concrete members and to the connections between old and new concrete members. Previous Michael's experimental research showed that confinement details had an effect on the lap splice performances of headed bars. In this study, the lap splice performances of headed bars(D25) with lap length and confinement details are evaluated through the experimental works. Four specimens, of which variables were the lap length of headed bar and the type of confine details, were tested for the performance evaluation on lap splice. Test results show that the lap length confinement reinforcement improve the performance of lap splice.

It has been known that lap splicing in the longitudinal reinforcement of bridge columns is not desirable for seismic performance, but it is sometimes unavoidable. Lap splices were usually be located in the plastic hinge region of most bridge columns that were constructed before the adoption of the seismic design provision of Korea Bridge Design Specification on 1992. This research is to evacuate the seismic performance of reinforced concrete bridge piers with lap splicing of longitudinal reinforcement in the plastic hinge region, and to develop the enhancement scheme of their seismic capacity by retrofitting with glassfiber sheets and to develop appropriate limited ductility design concept in low or moderate seismicity region. Nine test specimens in the aspect ratio of 4.0 were made with three confinement ratios and three types of lap splicing. Quasi-static tests under three different axial load levees were conducted. It has been observed that displacement ductility ratios of test columns with lap splicing were significantly reduced.

Because of the congestion problems, the high-strength reinforcements are expected to be used in nuclear power plant structures in the near future. According to ACI 349-13, lap splices of high-strength(550MPa) bars can be used but it is expected that lap splice length of reinforcement will be increased significantly. The increased lap splice length will be lead to increase in construction cost & period and to problems of other bar congestions. Therefore, this study will analyze the economic feasibility on mechanical splice of high-strength reinforcement used nuclear power plant structures instead of lap splice.

Green Frame is a Rahmen structure made of composite precast concrete members. According to the concrete design code, a lower rebar of precast concrete girder, should be extended to the inner precast concrete column. However, such extension of lower rebar may sharply reduce its constructability. To satisfy the criteria, the connection and anchorage of beam rebar should be taken into consideration, yet it is difficult to use lapping as it is not easy to ensure enough space when Green Frame method is adopted. To solve this, a new method of lower rebar connection and anchorage was developed, and this study is intended to review economic feasibility prior to applying the method developed onto sites. The study result can be used as basic data for selection of the optimal joint and anchorage method for lower rebar of the green frame construction.
The beam of composite structure composed of the RC structure in the end part and steel structure in the central palt were investigated during cyclic loading, in order to evaluate strength, stiffness, and deformational capacity. The parameters used in this study include the amount of reinforced steel bar between the steel beam and RC structure and the existence of the sticking plate. Test results showed that all specimens had stabilized hysteresis loops. Likewise, the specimens with sticking plate had higher load-carrying capacity compared with the one without it. In addition, the stiffness of the composite structure was higher than the steel structure. All specimens also showed good rotational capacity.
