Seismic Performance Evaluation of Highrise Steel Diagrid Frames (초고층 철골대각가새골조의 내진성능평가)

  • This paper is to investigate the possibility of the elastic seismic design for highrise buildings through seismic performance evaluation for potential earthquakes that wind-designed highrise buildings located in strong wind zone and low seismicity can be experienced. Highrise steel diagrid frames which is the most loved structural system in recent years were wind-designed and the substantial system overstrength due to wind design procedure is verified, For the highrise steel diagrid frames, the response spectrum analysis and the seismic performance evaluation by various soil sites were conducted. It was showed that highrise steel diagrid frames with slenderness of greater than 5.2 under strong wind and low seismic zones such as Korea peninsula can resist elastically for the 500 year return period earthquake and have the possibility of seismic design for the 2400 year return period earthquake. In the member level, highrise steel diagrid frames with slenderness of greater than 5.2 all presented the immediate occupancy level regardless of soil sites for the 500 year return earthquake and excluding the $S_E$ soil site for the even 2400 year return period earthquake. In the system level, highrise steel diagrid frames with slenderness of greater than 5.2 showed the immediate occupancy level for $S_A$ and $S_B$ soil sites and the life safety for $S_C$ to $S_E$ soil site in the 500 year return period. The seismic performance level of highrise steel diagrid frames for the 2400 year return period earthquake displayed one step lower than the 500 year return period earthquake.

Cyclic Testing of Bracket and WUF-B Type Weak-Axis Steel Moment Connections (브라켓 및 WUF-B 형식 철골모멘트골조 약축접합부 내진성능평가)

  • There has been much focus on the strong axis steel moment connections after the Northridge earthquake in 1994. However, research studieson the seismic behavior of weak axis moment connections could be hardly found despite the fact that these connection details have been frequently used as seismic details of MRF in Korea. Therefore, the objective of this research is to provide better knowledge on the seismic behavior of weak-axis steel moment connections, which can be widely applicable to many structures with similar characteristics. For this purpose, an experimental program was designed and performed with twotypes of weak-axis steel moment connections, namely the bracket type and WUF-B type, based on the survey of existing field data and literatures. Using the experimental results obtained from the quasi-static cyclic testing of these specimens, structural performances of the joints such as hysteretic curves, maximum strength capacities and the strain of reinforced bars were investigated. From the test results, the bracket-type connection was shown to have more than a 5% story drift capacity, compared with the WUF-B type connection's 4%. These specimens were also shown to have higher strength capacities than the nominal design strength. The bracket-type connection showed a slow strength degradation after maximum strength was researched. However,the WUF-B type connection showed a rapid strength degradation that caused brittle behavior.

Study on the Nonlinear Analysis Model for Seismic Performance Evaluation of School Buildings Retrofitted with Infilled Steel Frame with Brace (철골 끼움가새골조로 보강된 학교건물의 내진성능평가를 위한 비선형 해석 모델에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, damage to buildings due to earthquakes in Korea occurred mainly in school buildings and Piloti-type multi-family houses, highlighting the need for seismic retrofit for buildings of the same type. In the early days of the seismic retrofit project for school facilities, various patented methods using dampers as a ductile seismic retrofit method were applied without sufficient verification procedures. However, in 「School Facility Seismic Performance Evaluation and Retrofit Manual, 2021」, when the patented method is applied, it must be applied through a separate strict verification procedure, and instead, the strength/stiffness retrofit method was induced as a general method. In practice,when evaluating seismic performance for retrofit by infilled steel frame with brace, the analysis model is constructed by directly connecting only the steel brace to the existing RC member. However, if the frame is removed from the analysis model of the infilled steel frame with brace, the force reduction occurring on the existing RC member near the retrofit is considered to be very large, and this is judged to affect the review of whether to retrofit the foundation or not. Therefore, in this study, preliminary analysis with variables such as whether or not steel frame is taken into account and frame link method for the analysis model of RC school building retrofitted by infilled steel frame with brace and nonlinear analysis for actual 3-story school building was performed, and basic data for rational analysis model setting were presented by comparing preliminary analysis and pushover analysis results for each variable.

  • This paper presents the results of a study that aimed to develop a module for auto connection modeling that can be applied to the structural details design and modeling phase. It was established that the steel connection library database from the structural analysis resulted from the consideration of the input parameters of the 3D modeling program and the guidelines for Korean standard steel connections. The module for the auto connection modeling in steel structures was developed by linking it with the established library database through the use of the OpenAPI software to prove that the developed module carried out the modeling of the six story (steel structure) office building. The productivity and efficiency of the module introduction was verified by comparing the conventional process and the proposed process.

  • A displacement-based seismic design procedure was proposed for mid-to-low-rise steel moment frames. The proposed method was totally different from the current R-factor approach in that it directly uses available connection rotation capacity as a primary design variable. To this end, the relationship between available connection rotation capacity and seismic response modification (R factor) was established first; this relationship has been a missing link in current ductility-based design practice. A step-by-step displacement-based iterative design procedure was then proposed and verified using inelastic dynamic analysis.

  • Main structural steel members need fire-resistance measures to ensure their fire-resistance performance for a prescribed time. This paper analyzes and evaluates the fire-resistance performance of approved Korean fire-protection products for steel columns. These products are classified into products for board protection and for spray protection, samples of which were selected for the analysis. The fire-resistance performance was analyzed on the basis of Korean and European standards. The Korean standards are considered additional to the Euro-code standards for performance design. The Korean standards generally take more precautions to ensure safety on the temperature side, but require the reflection of material properties, the steel temperature calculation methodology, the profile factor, and the strength verification in a fire.

  • 국토해양부령 제320호인 건축물의 피난 방화구조 등의 기준에 관한 규칙 제 3조에서는 내화구조에 관한 세부기준을 정하고 있다. 이러한 법정내화구조 중에서 철골철망 모르타르조의 피복두께에 따른 내화성능 변화를 분석하기 위하여, 본 연구에서는 고온 재하하중조건에서 내화실험을 수행하였다. 철골조의 피복두께를 50 mm ${\cdot}$ 60 mm ${\cdot}$ 70 mm로 변화하여 내화실험을 수행하였으며, 재하하중비를 변화시킴으로 동일 피복두께에서의 내화성능 변화를 분석하고자 하였다. 실험결과 단면소성모멘트 대비 하중비 0.4 조건에서의 철골철망 모르타르조의 내화성능은 180분이 나왔으며, 피난 방화구조 등의 기준의 별표 1에서 정하고 있는 내화구조의 성능기준 중 최대 내화성능시간인 3시간을 확보하는 것으로 나타났다.

Seismic Performance Evaluation of Steel Intermediate Moment Frames with Different Heights (다양한 높이를 가진 철골 중간모멘트골조의 내진성능평가)

  • The objective of this research is to evaluate the seismic performance of steel intermediate moment frames(IMFs) with different heights. The seimic performance is conducted according to ATC-63. Three-, six, nine- and twelve-story IMFs are designed according to KBC 2009. The connection is modeled to have a drift capacity of 0.02rad, which is required for IMF connections. This study shows that the probability of collapse increases with an increase in the height of the frame. Nine- and twelve-story frames did not satisfy the requirement specified in ATC-63.

  • The laminated elastomeric bearing and the lead-rubber bearing were designed to isolate one bay-two story steel frame which is designed for only gravity load. The seismic performance is evaluated for the designed steel frame before and after application of these seismic isolators between the super structure and the foundation. These isolators can improve the seismic capacity of the steel frame. Especially, by inserting the lead plug into the center of the laminated elastomeric bearing, the initial stiffness of th bearing can be increased, thus rather large lateral displacement can be prevented under the frequent service lateral load. During the strong earthquake, yielding of the lead can increase the capacity of the energy dissipation.

  • 철골구조물은 일반 철근 콘크리트 구조와는 달리 단순히 천공을 하고 폭약을 장약하여 기폭시키는 방법으로는 해체 또는 절단이 어렵다. 국내의 경우 최근 철골 구조로 건축되는 강교와 건축물 등이 증가하는 추세이며, 내구연한이 다하거나 구조적 결함으로 인하여 해체 대상으로 지목되는 철골구조물에 대해서는 특수한 형태의 해체 기술을 필요로 한다. 1997년 이후 국내에 철골구조물의 발파해체를 위하여 성형폭약에 의한 폭발절단기술에 관한 연구가 소개된 이후로 폭발절단력에 미치는 성형폭약의 라이너(Liner), 폭약의 종류, 형상 및 이격거리(Stand-off distance) 등에 대한 연구가 활발히 이루어졌으며, 또한 국산화를 위한 기초적인 설계변수에 관한 연구 등이 보고 된 바 있다. 현재 성형폭약의 사용범위가 철골구조물의 절단해체 뿐만 아니라 긴급구조를 필요로 하는 특수한 용도나 군사폭약의 해체, 항공산업 등 그 적용범위가 확대되고 있는 실정이다. 그러나, 성형폭약의 성능 향상 및 품질 보증을 위한 체계적인 설계 변수의 검토 설정에 관한 연구와 산업f'의 적용을 위한 구체적인 결과는 보고 된 바 없는 실정이다. 그래서, 보다 체계적인 현장 적용 시험 등에 대한 연구가 효율적으로 진행될 경우 국내 고유 기술에 의한 철구조물의 절단 및 해체공법에 획기적인 변화를 가져올 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 국산화되어 현장에 적용되고 있는 성형폭약 HAKO 제품을 기준으로 이미 국내에 알려진 성형폭약과 비교 분석하였다. 또한 보다 효율적인 산업계의 적용을 위한 각종 시험 결과 및 국산화 현황과 향후 활용 방안 등에 대하여 소개하고자 한다.
