  • No specific guidelines are for computing the shear strength of steel coupling beam connections embedded in the reinforced concrete shear wall. In this paper, a theoretical study of the strength of hybrid coupled shear wall connections is achieved. The bearing stress at failure in the concrete below the steel coupling beam section is related to the concrete compressive strength and the ratio of the width of the steel coupling beam section to the thickness of the hybrid coupled shear wall. To revise factor affecting shear transfer strength across connections between coupled shear walls and steel coupling beam, experimental studies are achieved. The main test variables were auxiliary details of stud bolts. In this studies, these proposed equations are shown to be in good agreement with the test results reported in the paper and with other test data in the literature.

  • In construction project, it is important to exchange and share the digital information generated by their own professional softwares. So this paper analyzed the information delivery requirements of steel structure according the structural design stages using IDM methodology. For schematic design stage and detailed design stage, the structural design information to share in each design stages is abstracted by defining the PM, ER, and FP. The new ERs and FPs are proposed by defining the new property sets(Psets), suchlike bolt gauge line, weld, scallop, and cope, to complement the structural design information of $IFC2{\times}3$. Finally, the reasonability of the proposed new ERs, FPs are verified by applying them to represent the standard steel connection sample in detailed design stage. As a result, the structural design information of standard steel connection could be stored and managed sufficiently by using the proposed new ERs and FPs.

  • In this study, an experimental study to evaluate the seismic performance of beam-to-column connection for medium and low-rise building was conducted. Five connections using SHN490 steel were made with test variables such as flange welded or bolted, web welded or bolted. Specimen SHN-W-W is web welded and flange welded type. Specimen SHN-W-B is web welded and flange bolted type. Specimen SHN-B-W is web bolted and flange welded type. Specimen SHN-B-B is web bolted and flange bolted type. Specimen SHN-EP is a connection with the end plate to the beam ends. Cyclic loadings was applied at the tip of beam following KBC2009 load protocol. The load vs rotation curves for different connection are shown and final failure mode shapes are summarized. The connections are classified in terms of stiffness and strength as semi-rigid or rigid connection. Energy dissipation capacities for seismic performance evaluation were compared.

  • This paper is the first step on the study of the industrialization of the mid-story steel building structures. The purpose of this study is to investigate the structural behavior of concrete-filled square steel tubular column to H-beam connections using angles and high tension bolts. The tests are carried out with five types of specimens under static loading and the main parameter is the thickness of angles. Yield-line theory which obtains connection strength by way of the lowest value based on upper-limit theory is applied to predict strength formulas.

  • Column base is very important part of steel structure because it transmits load to foundation in structure. Column base which is used frame construction in the inside and outside of the country is distributed into exposed-type, concrete encased and imbeded-type. Exposed-type column base is most profitable, if consider reuse and recycle of elements first of all. In this study, we proposed a new style exposed-type column base improved in performance for construction work and mechanical performance.

  • Green Frame is a column-beam system formed by composite precast concrete column and beam connected with steel buried in both members. During the installation of Green columns, the columns of Green Frame, covering 3 floors per each piece and beams, the eccentricity can be observed due to the construction error and the weight of beam itself. Such eccentricity may have a little influence on a single frame, yet, it can develop critical issues to the installation of subsequent beams or beams on the upper floors in the context of a building as a whole that has multiple frames. These issues lead to delay in frame installation, decrease of productivity and increase of cost, etc. Therefore, this study presents a steel-joint connection method in order to solve the issues. The steel-joint connection method exists on slope plane and reinforcing plate in steel frame buried in composite PC members. Through this method, the issues can be resolved without requiring additional equipment or manpower.

  • This study tackles the development of an improved detail of partially restrained CFT square column-to-beam connection and the evaluation of its mechanical behavior under monotonic loading. The connection is designed to strengthen shearing capacity at the bottom of the connection due to the ultimate behavior of PR-CC by its detail of the bottom connection and simplify the fabrication process. The suggested connection is the welded bottom beam flange connection(M-2) and is compared with the existing PR-CC of bolted seat angle connection(M-1). Two specimens were fabricated in actual size and tested under monotonic loading. Based on the test results, the welded bottom beam flange connection exhibited about 85% of the stiffness of steel beam. It was similar to the bolted seat angle connection and behaved as PR-CC. The specimen of the supposed connection type failed at the shear connection of web but was similar to the bolted seat angle connection until the failure. It obtained sufficient stiffness and capacity through the reinforcingsteel and the capacity and deformational ability equivalent to the full-plastic moment through the anchor inside the steel tube at the web connection. So, it can be said that the suggested connection exhibits sufficient ductile behavior.

  • The usefulness of walls in the structural planning of multistory buildings has long been recognized. When walls are situated in advantageous positions in a buildings, they can be very efficient in resisting lateral load. Specially coupled shear wall system is the primary lateral load resisting system of buildings. It is customary to refer to such walls as being 'coupled' by coupling beams. The coupling beams must exhibit excellent strength, stiffness ductility and energy dissipation capacity. To achieve these demands for steel coupling beam, steel coupling beam with Face Bearing Plate(FBP) embedded in the reinforced concrete walls is proposed. A comprehensive experimental test involving 2 steel coupling beam with and without FBP has been performed. Through experimental study, the evaluation of the advantage of that was establish and proposed the failure mode.

  • In a super-tall building construction, thick and large-sized embed plates are usually used to connect mega structural steel members to RC core wall or columns by welding a gusset plate on the face of the embed plate with T-shape. A large amount of heat input accumulated by weld passes causes the plates to expand or deform. In addition, the temperature of concrete around the plates also could be increased. Consequently, cracks and spalls occur on the concrete surface. In this study, the effect of weld heat on embed plates and 80MPa high strength concrete is investigated by considering weld position (2G and 3G position), edge distance, concrete curing time, etc. Measured temperature of the embed plates was compared with the transient thermal analysis results. Finally, push-out tests were performed to verify and compare the shear studs capacity of the embed plate with design requirement. Test result shows that the shear capacity of the plate is reduced by 14%-19% due to the weld heat effect and increased as the concrete curing time is longer.

  • A refined method of analysis which is called the Advanced Analysis has been introduced This method is to consider the intial member imperfection residual stress and second-order effects so as to estimate the overall behavior of steel frame accurately Based on the refined plastic hinge method that is more suitable and practical in design practice. the program RPH-2DF is coded using the log model which represents the moment-rotation relationship of connection. The validity of this program is examined by frame test data. Finally to investigate the difference between behaviors of rigid and semi-rigid frame. the 10-story frame analysis results designed by MIDAS-GEN v4.2.2 are compared with the results by RPH-2DF.
