A detailed database of waste heat is built to propose energy exchange networks to recover waste energy in Pohang Steel Industrial Complex. A visualized technique is used to figure out the status of waste heat energy and to suggest potential energy exchange networks. Several energy networks are proposed in terms of temperature level, the amount of available energy, distance, and construction cost. A simple economical assessment is applied to the energy exchange networks which have higher economic potential. Their average payback period is estimated to be 2.8 years. The total amount of energy saving by constructing the proposed energy exchange networks is 4,778 TOE per year. It corresponds to 11,160 ton $CO_2$ reduction with the assumption that the recycled waste energy replaces the use of LNG in energy-demanding companies.

This study analyses the transformation of Asian steel trade and the change of corporate strategy. The purpose of this paper is to examine the circumstances of Asian steel industrial policies, and considering the feature of each nation's steel industrial policies, and the effect of the corporate strategy. In China, mighty steel productive capacity had already formed under original planned economy and industrial policy. In 2003, crude steel production have exceeded 220 million ton in China and that is 23.2% of the steel production share in the world. On the other hand, not only the amount but also the quality becomes an important point in the steel industry in the future. I consider, on researching Asian steel industry, it is important to build up partnership in Korea and Japan for achieve strategic alliance in the steel industry policies and understanding the change of corporate strategy.

보기좋은 떡이 맛도 좋다는 말이 있듯이 잘 포장된 제품은 그렇지 않은 제품보다 더 인기가 있는 것이 사실이다. 이런 관점에서 보면 포장은 단순히 내용물의 외형을 그럴듯하게 꾸미는 것으로 생각하기 쉽다. 하지만 사실 포장은 그 제품에 대한 이미지를 높이는 것은 물론 품질유지, 안정성 확보 등을 통해 해당 제품이 소비자들의 손에 무사히 전달될 수 있게 만드는 중요한 일이다. 특히 철강제품에서 포장은 더욱 각별한 의미를 지닌다. 그 제품이 냉연제품이라면 더욱 그렇다. 제품의 품질을 유지하기 위해 방청, 방수, 미적 등의 기술이 모두 동원돼야 하기 때문이다. (주)누벨피엔에스가 업계에서 유명세를 떨치고 있는 이유가 바로 여기에 있다. 철강산업에 많은 기업들은 기업내에 인적, 물적자원을 효율적으로 관리하고 기업의 경쟁력을 제고하기 위해 컴퓨터 시스템인 전사적 자원관리(Enterprise Resource Planning, 이하 ERP)를 도입하여 운영하고 있다. ERP 시스템을 개발하는 개발사는 자사의 솔루션을 글로벌 시스템으로 개발하기 위해 기업의 환경과 다양한 국가의 세법을 연구하여 시스템에 적용하고 있다. 이 논문에서는 "S" 사의 "M" ERP 시스템을 분석하여 국가별로 세법과 환경이 다른 사용자들의 요구사항을 해결하는 시간을 절약하고 초기 시스템 구축의 '확장성'이 떨어지는 현상을 Form Setup 방식을 이용해 개선한 시스템을 설계하고 구현하였다.

Park Tae-Joon, a pioneer in the Korean steel industry, has greatly influenced the advancement of science and technology as well as the development of the nation's economy. He believed that POSCO, which was a government-owned company, should not only focus on making profits, but also operate for higher state-level purposes. This belief became the basis for founding a general laboratory and a research university, as well as building big science and technology R&D facilities. Park Tae-Joon's efforts to establish a research university and his dedication to the advancement of science education stemmed from his devotion to public welfare. Just like he believed that the steel industry, which is the basis for all other industries, should be promoted at the state-level, he believed that university and basic science should also be promoted at the state-level. Thanks to his philosophy, the Pohang University of Science and Technology has risen beyond just a polytechnic school to become a research university that makes revolutionary science and technology advancements for the nation. The fact that Park Tae-Joon used profits from business to build the university and national research facilities such as the Pohang Light Source also shows that he nurtured pure science with the welfare of the whole nation in mind.

It becomes more and more important for business survival to have the ability to predict the future with uncertainties increasing faster and faster. To predict the future, text mining tools are one of the main candidate other than traditional quantitative analyses, but those efforts are still at their infancy. This paper is to introduce one of those efforts using the case of company "P" in the steel industry. Even with only four month pilot studies, we found strong possibilities, if not testified robustly, to predict future industrial trends using text mining tools. For these text mining case studies, we categorized steel industry trend keywords into ten components (10 categories) to study ten different subjects for each category. Once found any meaningful changes in a trend, we had investigated in more detail what and how some trend happened so. To be more roust, firstly we need to define more cleary the purpose of text mining analyses. Then we need to categorize industry trend key words in a more systematic way using systems thinking models. With these improvements, we are quite sure that applying text mining tools to analyzing industry trends will contribute to predicting the future industry trends as well as to identifying the unseen trends otherwise.

This research focuses on the process improvement of port logistics by using Lean methodology. On the one hand, we firstly analyze the current situation and weakness of the processes in port logistics, and then re-design the current processes by the principles of Lean discipline. Based on the appropriately changed processes, the improvement scheme of port logistics will be figured out. On the other hand, we construct the port logistics system by implementing the improved processes. The port logistics' processes accomplished in steel company will be further assorted and identified. The relationship of wharves process, operational process, shipping process, construction process, quality process, and purchasing process are also defined. Every process has been improved by Lean Tools in order to analyze the value added or non-value added processes, to improve the service level, and to reduce the cycle time, inventory, changing time, re-working and waste. Based on above, the appropriate environment that is suitable to Lean process of port logistics will be established and the modeling that can help to implement the improvement scheme will be figured out.
