Elastica of Simple Variable-Arc-Length Beams (단순지지 변화곡선 길이 보의 정확탄성곡선)

  • In this paper, numerical methods are developed for solving the elastica of simple beams with variable-arc-length subjected to a point loading. The beam model is based on Bernoulli-Euler beam theory. The Runge-Kutta and Regula-Falsi methods, respectively, are used to solve the governing differential equations and to compute the beam's rotation at the left end of the beams. Extensive numerical results of the elastica responses, including deflected shapes, rotations of cross-section and bending moments, are presented in non-dimensional forms. The possible maximum values of the end rotation, deflection and bending moment are determined by analyzing the numerical data obtained in this study.

  • A liner static and dynamic analysis for a golf shaft, which is made of carbon fiber reinforced composite materials, is presented in this study. Major mechanical parameters of golf shafts such as deflection, torsional angel, frequency of vibration(CPM), and kick point are analyzed by finite element method. The effects of major parameters on the performance of golf shafts are also discussed. The results show that the major parameters of golf shafts are strongly dependent on the material properties of fibers and design pattern of golf shafts. The present results will be useful to design sheet-rolled golf shafts.

  • The stress analysis of cold-formed channel section steel beams under transverse load is presented. The local buckling as well as the lateral buckling effects are included in the analysis. The analytical model is developed based on the thin-walled beam theory, and a one-dimensional finite element model is formulated to solve the analytical model. Numerical results are compared with AISI code. It shows that the proposed model is appropriate for predicting of stress as well as deflection of the cold-formed channel section beam.

  • 본 연구에서는 비대칭 박벽단면을 갖는 곡선보의 안정성해석을 수행할 수 있는 이론 및 엄밀해를 제시하기 위하여, 3차원 연속체로부터 유도된 평형방정식으로부터 선형화된 가상일의 원리를 적용하였다. 박벽단면의 구속된 ?(warping)과 곡률효과를 고려하고 유한한 회전각의 2차항을 포함하는 곡선보의 변위장을 도입하여 단면에 대해 적분함으로써 도심축에 대한 박벽 곡선보의 총포텐셜에너지를 유도하였다. 또한, 단순지지되고 일축대칭 단면을 갖는 박벽원형 곡선보의 면내 및 면외좌굴에 대한 엄밀해를 유도하기 위하여, 면내에 대해서는 균일압축을 받는 원형아치의 역대칭 좌굴모드에 대한 좌굴하중을 유도하고 면외좌굴에 대해서는 균일압축 및 순수휨을 받는 아치의 처짐함수를 가정하여 곡선보의 횡좌굴하중에 대한 일반해를 제시하였다.

Development of a Model for Predicting Modulus on Asphalt Pavements Using FWD Deflection Basins (FWD 처짐곡선을 이용한 아스팔트 포장구조체의 탄성계수 추정 모형 개발)

  • A development of regression model for asphalt concrete pavements using Falling Weight Deflectometer deflections is presented in this paper. A backcalculation program based on layered elastic theory was used to generate the synthetic modulus database, which was used to generate 95% confidence intervals of modulus in each layer. Using deflection basins of FWD data used in developing this procedure were collected from Pavement Management System in flexible pavements. Assumptions of back-calculation are that one is 3 layered flexible pavement structure and another is depth to bedrock is finite. It is found that difference of between 95% confidence intervals and modulus ranges of other papers does not exist. So, the data of 95% confidence intervals in each layer was used to develop multiple regression models. Multiple regression equations of each layer were established by SPSS, package of Statics analysis. These models were proved by regression diagnostics, which include case analysis, multi-collinearity analysis, influence diagnostics and analysis of variance. And these models have higher degree of coefficient of determination than 0.75. So this models were applied to predict modulus of domestic asphalt concrete pavement at FWD field test.

  • This paper represented the finite element analysis to estimate structural performance of stress-laminated deck, which is determined by deflection, stress, and aging characteristics of tensioning. After loading, the deflected shape showed plate behavior because pre-stressing make frictional force between each member. Compared between initial post-tension and the results, pre-stressing forces were decreased with deck deflection. This is because deflection occurred in the deck so that pre-stressing decreased due to load reduction. However, material plasticity was not considered so that advanced researches should be performed.

  • The crawler crane, which consists of a lattice boom, a driving system, and movable vehicle, is widely used in a construction site. It needs to be installed an overload limiter to prevent the overturning accident and the fracture of structure. This research is undertaken to provide the relation formula for designing the overload limiter as follows: First the relation formulas between the wire-rope tension and the hoisting load or the overturning ratio according to the luffing angle and length of a lattice boom are established. Secondly the derived formulas are corrected by using the compensated angle considering the deflection of boom through the finite element analysis. The stiffness analysis is carried out for 30-kinds of models as a combination of 6-kinds of luffing angle and 5-kinds of length of boom. Finally the shape design of a stick type load cell, which is the device to measure the wire-rope tension, is performed. 5-kinds of notch radius and 5-kinds of center hole radius are adopted as the design parameter for the strength analysis of the load cell.

  • In the recent construction industry, external tendon method has been widely used for strengthening and repair of civil structures. This paper presents the strengthening effectiveness and application of the proposed external tendons using lifting hole anchorage system. Based on the experimental results of the previous external tendons using lifting hole anchorage systems, two types of modified systems were proposed. In order to verify the strengthening effectiveness of the two systems, six beams were built and a series of experiments was carried out. To compare and analyze the behaviors of the proposed systems, deflections and strains were measured. Additionally, yield load, ultimate load and failure modes were compared and analyzed.

  • This study presents geometric nonlinear and material analysis of under-tension structure using Total Lagrangian and Updated Lagrangian method. In the regard, the under-tension system enables the load of upper part to carry to the end of beam by pre-tensional force in cable. The under-tension system on lower part of the structure is applied in order to reduce the deflection and size of member. This study is performed with conforming of the effect by pretension value in the cable and applying loading. Dead and Live loads are supposed to apply nodal on the top member. The member force and deflection of the structure are with MIDAS and ADINA.

  • This paper summarizes the results of experimental studies concerning the flexural strengthening of reinforced concrete beams by the external bonding of the new reinforcement material, which is composite panel with an advanced fiber sheet bonded on light concrete precast panel. The structural behaviors of strengthened beams are compared with codes in terms of yield load and ultimate load, deflection, flexural stiffness, ductility. Thirty nine large-scale beams were tested experimentally to evaluate the strength enhancement provided by the composite panel. According to the results, it is shown that beams strengthened with composite panel are structurally efficient and that the strength of the strengthened beams are improved comparing with beams strengthened with fiber sheet.
