The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of 'The Reading with Library' program in the national library for Children and Young Adults. For this study, data was collected through surveys with 590 children in 46 institutions that participated in '2009 The Reading with Library'program. The study mainly focused on three factors - Children's Self-Esteem, Sociality, and Reading Ability and Questionnaire surveyed. The study revealed that 42(91.3%) among 46institutions showed improvement in the Children's Self-Esteem, Sociality, and Reading Ability test. As the result, 11 institutions (23.9%) were influenced by the program.

The aim of this paper is to explore the promotion of reading books at the public school. The promotion of reading books at the school is more important and useful for students than the Educational Information Project, which is setting computers and the Internet at the public school. Because watching TV and navigating the internet without reading books is not good for students to exercise creativity and sound personality. To promote reading books at the school, at first schools need to hire librarian-teachers, and build collection at school libraries as explained. And then schools need to conduct campaigns for promoting reading books, such as reading boots for students, reading books for 10 minutes every morning, and book flood program. In addition, the lesson on reading instruction will be helpful.

90년대 초반부터 독서생활의 실천을 강조하며 어린이 독서지침서나 이론서들이 나오기 시작했다. 그러나 논술에 짜맞춘 수업용 지도서들은 교육보다 상혼에 기대 있고, 어린이 독서교육의 진지한 고민보다는 오히려 즐거운 책읽기를 방해하는 경우도 있다.

참으로 훌륭한 논문들은 사람냄새를 흠씬 풍기면서도 학술적인 글들임을 확인하게 됐다. 지적 오만의 인상을 주지 않으면서도 시시한 분석을 용납치 않고, 사고의 깊이가 엄청나면서도 좁은 사색이나 얕은 문제의식들을 부끄럽게 하지 않는 책읽기에서 사람의 냄새를 경험하게 된다.

책이 가득하고 책읽는 사람들이 북적대는 도서관에서 늘 책과 함께 살고 있는 우리 도서관인들은 과연 얼마나 책을 읽을까? 항상 책과 함께 하기에 혹시 읽지 않으면서도 만족감에 젖어 사는 것은 아닐까? 아니면 일에 지쳐, 시간에 쫓겨 마음은 있으면서도 책읽기를 게을리하는 것은 아닐까? 물론 도서관인들은 늘 책을 읽고 그 책들과 대화를 하며 가장 적절한 이용자에게 책을 전해주기 위해 애쓰고 있다고 생각한다. 그러나 가끔은 나 자신을 위해 책읽는 시간을 할애하면 어떨까? 도서관인으로. 한 사람의 일반인의 자격으로 자신을 위한 책읽기의 시간을 나누기 위해 이번호부터 이 지면을 신설하였다. ■ 편집자 주
