  • An autonomous driving system is based on the deep learning system built by big data which are obtained by various IoT sensors. The miniaturization and high performance of the IoT sensors are needed for diverse devices including the autonomous driving system. Specially, the miniaturization of the sensors leads to compel the miniaturization of the fixer structures. In the viewpoint of the miniaturization, metallic structure is a best solution to attach the small IoT sensors to the main body. However, it is hard to manufacture the small metallic structure with a conventional machining process or manufacturing cost greatly increases. As one of solutions for the problems, in this work, metallic FDM (Fused depositon modeling) based on metallic filament was proposed and the FDM process was investigated to fabricate the small metallic structure. Final part was obtained by the post-process that consists of debinding and sintering. In this work, the relationship between infill rate and the density of the part after the post-process was investigated. The investigation of the relationship is based on the fact that the infill rate and the density obtained from the post-processing is not same. It can be said that this work is a fundamental research to obtain the higher density of the printed part.

  • In a reinforced soil structure, the interaction between soil and an reinforcement occurs due to the frictional resistance on the contact surface between them or the pullout resistance of the reinforcement. Generally, a pullout test is conducted to measure pullout parameters of extensible geogrids. The factors affecting the pullout parameters in a pullout test include a density of backfill, shape of reinforcements, overburden pressure, length of spread reinforcements, and so on. The purpose of this study is to suggest a length of the spreading of an extensible reinforcement that can be used in estimating suitable pullout parameters of a pullout test. To this end, a pullout test was carried out. For the test, the length of spreading of an extensible reinforcement was set as 32 cm, 52 cm, 72 cm, and 100 cm, and effects of the lengths on pullout parameters were analyzed. As a result of the pullout test, it was confirmed that the frictional resistance between the soil and the reinforcement increases with the increase of the length of the reinforcement.

  • The exact resolution of channel initiation points is not so easy because of the dynamic behaviors of water movement on the hillslope. To this end, Kim, Joocheol and Kim, Jaehan(2007) have represented the channel network in real world basins for slope-area regimes using DEM. This study is its sequential content and then proposes the reliabilities of the hypothetical channel networks identified from DEM, which are assessed based on the geometric characteristics of drainage density and source-basin. The resulting drainage structures on the natural basin can be found to be depicted remarkably depending on the hypothetical channel network applied by slop-area threshold criterion. In addition, it is shown that there is a wonderful geometric similarity between the shapes of source- basin in a geomorphologically homogeneous region. Area threshold criterion could have restricted the shape of source-basin, so that it might bring about the incorrect drainage structures. But the hypothetical channel networks identified from DEM deserves special emphasis on expressing the space-filling structures nonetheless.

  • Uplift phenomenon occurs when the apparent unit weight of buried geo-structures becomes smaller than that of the liquefied backfill due to the increase of an excess pore water pressure during strong earthquakes. In order to explain the relationship between the uplift displacement of the buried geo-structures and the increase of the excess pore water pressure ratio in backfill, dynamic centrifuge model tests are conducted. In the present study, primary and secondary factors against uplift behavior of the buried geo-structures are considered in the dynamic centrifuge model tests. Among these factors, the most important factors affecting the increase in the excess pore water pressure ratio were the ground water depth, the relative density of backfill, and the amplitude of the input acceleration, which were also largely affect the uplift amount of the buried geo-structures.

  • In Korea, reutilization of construction waste is gaining attention as construction waste generated increases continuously. Currently, the concrete waste is simply crushed and used as a low value application such as paving, back filling, etc. To meet the demand of aggregate for construction and the resource efficiently, production of high quality recycled aggregate is necessary. Therefore, in this study, a better process for production of high quality recycled aggregate was developed using combination of heat pretreatment and autogenous milling. Test results showed that the recycled aggregate has a density of $2.5\;g/cm^3$ and a water absorption ratio of 3.0%, which meet the specification of the first class of KS F 2573. Currently, a pilot scale autogenous mill is being constructed and tests will be further conducted to develop a commerce-scale process.

  • Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) is a type of geosynthetic material manufactured with various strengths, unit weights, and dimensions. Due to recent advances in research on EPS, the use of EPS has increased dramatically. This super light weight material has a unit weight of approximately $0.16{\sim}0.47kN/m^3$, equivalent to 6.3~15.7 of that of most natural soils with conditions of fill materials. In spite of this advantage, it is noted that no standard method of resilient modulus test on EPS geofoam was reported and no literature on resilient modulus test methods for EPS geofoam exist. The main object of this study was to investigate feasibility of the resilient modulus of EPS when it was applied for flexible pavement. The investigation of the feasibility was completed based on the results from triaxial tests.

  • The procedure of soil sampling for on-farm quick test of soil nitrate is very important to improve practical application without weighing or drying soil. To improve application of test strip reflectometer as a quick on-farm analytical procedure for the estimation of soil nitrate concentration, three sampling methods such as gravimetric sampling (GS), particle density sampling (PDS) and bulk density sampling (BDS) for on-farm analytical procedure were investigated with twelve soils of 45 to $281mg\;kg^{-1}$ nitrate nitrogen concentration. The nitrate nitrogen concentrations measured from different soils were compared with two analytical methods, ion electrode method as a standard laboratory analysis (SLA) and test strip reflectometer at three moisture conditions, viz. air dried soil, 20 and 40% of maximum water holding capacity (MWHC). Nitrate nitrogen concentration measured by test strip reflectometer was significantly correlated with that of SLA, and the coefficients of variation (CV) were in the range of 3.5 to 10.9%. These CV values less than 10.9% were thought to be acceptable for the measurement of soil nitrate as an on-farm real time analytical procedure. The nitrate nitrogen concentration by BDS for test strip reflectometer as well as ion electrode method was more similar to that of SLA compared with those by GS and PDS especially in case of moist soils. This result suggests that the BDS is more useful than GS and PDS in case of on-farm analytical procedure of soil nitrate for moist soils. Further the practical measurement by BDS could be improved by substituting the bottle cap with a larger container.

  • Bentonite has been proposed as a buffer and backfill material for high-level radioactive waste repository. Under such repository environment conditions, bentonite is subjected to combined thermal, hydrological, mechanical, and chemical processes. This study evaluates the feasibility of applying X-ray CT technology on the characterization of bentonite under hydration conditions using a newly developed testing cell. The cylindrical cell is made of platic material, with a removable cap to place the sample, enabling to apply vertical pressure on the sample and to measure swelling pressure. The hydration test was carried out with a sample made of Gyeonju bentonite, with a dry density of 1.4 g/cm3, and a water content of 20%. The sample had a diameter of 27.5 mm and a height of 34 mm. During the test, water was injected at a constant pressure of 0.207 MPa, and lasted for 7 days. After one day of hydration, bentonite swelled and filled out the space inside the cell. Moreover, CT histograms showed how the hydration process induced an initial increase and later progressive decrease on the density of the sample. Detailed profiles of the mean CT value, CT standard deviation, and CT gradient provided more details on the hydration process of the sample and showed how the bottom and top regions exhibited a decrease on density while the middle region showed an increase, especially during the first two days of hydration. Later, the differences in CT values with respect to the initial state decreased, and were small at the end of testing. The formation and later reduction of cracks was also characterized through CT scanning.

  • A geological repository system consists of a disposal canister with packed spent fuel, buffer material, backfill material, and intact rock. The buffer is indispensable to assure the disposal safety of high-level radioactive waste. Since the heat generated from spent nuclear fuel in a disposal canister is released to the surrounding buffer materials, the thermal properties of the buffer material are very important in determining the entire disposal safety. Especially, since thermal expansion can cause thermal stress to the intact rock mass in the near-field, it is very important to evaluate thermal expansion characteristics of bentonite buffer materials. Therefore, this paper presents a thermal expansion coefficient prediction model of the Gyeongju bentonite buffer materials which is a Ca-bentonite produced in South Korea. The linear thermal expansion coefficient was measured considering heating rate, dry density and temperature variation using dilatometer equipment. Thermal expansion coefficient values of the Gyeongju bentonite buffer materials were $4.0{\sim}6.0{\times}10^{-6}/^{\circ}C$. Based on the experimental results, a non-linear regression model to predict the thermal expansion coefficient was suggested and fitted according to the dry density.

  • This study aims to develop CLSM fill material for emergency restoration using landfill coal ash. As a result of examining physical properties such as particle size distribution and fines content of landfill coal ash, bottom ash, fly ash, and general soil were mixed, and SP was found to have a density of 2.03 and a residual particle pass rate of 7.8 %. CLSM materials that secure fluidity in unit quantities without using chemical admixtures such as glidants and water reducing agents have a high risk of material separation due to bleeding. As a result of this experiment, it was found that the bleeding ratio did not satisfy the standard in the case of the specimen with a large amount of fly ash and a lot of addition of mixing water. As a result of the compressive strength test, the strength development of 0.5 MPa or more for 4 hours was found to be satisfactory for the specimens using hemihydrate gypsum with a unit binder amount of 200 or more, and the remaining gypsum showed poor strength development. Although it is judged that landfill coal ash can be used as a CLSM material, it is necessary to identify and apply the physical and chemical characteristics of coal ash buried in the ash treatment plant of each power generation company.
