In this paper, we analyze the I/Q imbalances effects at the WiBro uplimk when using direct-conversion RF transceiver. If I/Q imbalance exists, the transmit signal is spread over two sbcarriers. As a result, phenomenon of performance reducing is produced. Contrary to OFDM system in which one user uses all subcarrier, symmetrical two subcarriers are assigned other users in OFDMA system. I/Q imbalances elements can't be estimated such a conventional allocation method of tiles in subchannel and compensated. In order to solve the problem, We propose a new method in order that symmetrical two subcarriers are assigned one user. If novel method is applied, we can estimate I/Q imbalances and compensate distortion received signal. As a result, we can obtain a performance similar performance when I/Q imbalances is not existed. Also, if proper detection methods are used, we get the effect of performance improvement, because of diversity gain what is happened due to combining I/Q imbalances with multi path fading channel.

The accuracy of extracting the azimuth angle of a target is significantly affected by the error in the mono-pulse ratio of the air-borne antenna hybrid mono-pulse Radar system. This error is strongly induced by the phase imbalance between the channels of the system. In this paper, a method is proposed for effectively calibrating the phase imbalance caused by physical differences between the RF channels from the antenna to the $180^{\circ}$ hybrid. Through a flight test, it was confirmed that the accuracy of the azimuth angle of the target is improved by using the proposed method.
Dispersion management (DM) is the typical technique compensating for the distorted signals due to interaction of group velocity dispersion (GVD) and optical nonlinear effects for transmitting wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) channel with the excellent performance. Optimal net residual dispersion (NRD) and effective launching power range of optical transmission links with random distribution and artificial distribution of single mode fiber (SMF) length and residual dispersion per span (RDPS) required to flexibly design of optical links in DM. It is confirmed that optimal net residual dispersion (NRD) are +10 ps/nm and -10 ps/nm controlled by precompensation and postcompensation, respectively, in both of the considered distribution patterns of SMF length and RDPS. And, in optimal NRD, system performance in optical links with the descending distribution of SMF length and the ascending distribution of RDPS among the artificial distribution patterns are more improved, consequently, effective launching power range is expanded by almost 2 dB than those in optical links with the uniform distribution.

An orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system is a special case of multicarrier transmission, where a single data stream is transmitted over a number of lower-rate subcarriers. One of the main reasons to use OFDM is to increase robustness against frequency-selective fading or narrowband interference. However, in the radio systems the distortion introduced by high power amplifiers (HPA's) such as traveling wave tube amplifier (TWTA) considered in this paper, is also critical. Since the signal amplitude of the OFDM system is Rayleigh-distributed, the performance of the OFDM system is significantly degraded by the nonlinearity of the HPA in the OFDM transmitter. In this paper, we propose a simplicial canonical piecewise-linear (SCPWL) model based digital predistorter to compensate for nonlinear distortion introduced by an HPA in an OFDM system. Computer simulation is carried on an OFDM system under additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channels with 16-QAM and 64-QAM modulation schemes and modulator/demodulator implemented with 1024-point FFT/IFFT. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed predistorter achieves significant performance improvement by effectively compensating for the nonlinearity introduced by the HPA.

In this paper, it is investigated that the limitation due to the asymmetry of optical power with respect to optical phase conjugator(OPC) in mid-span spectral inversion(MSSI) for compensating optical signal distortion due to group velocity dispersion(GVD) and nonlinearities generated in fiber by combining with lumped dispersion management(DM) technique into MSSI. Two kinds of lumped DM configuration(configuration A and configuration B) are considered and compared each other in this research. Configuration A consists of two dispersion compensating fiber(DCF) span positioned after transmitter and before receiver, respectively. Configuration B consists of two dispersion compensating fiber(DCF) span positioned before and after OPC placed at middle of total transmission link, respectively. It is confirmed that the transmission performances are more improved by the configuration A combined with MSSI than configuration B. Also, it is confirmed that the best performance of overall channels are obtained by making net residual dispersion(NRD) to have positive value in self phase modulation(SPM)-limited WDM transmission systems, irrelevant to the configuration of DM.

A novel adaptive phase calibration method is proposed for nonlinear amplifiers. Based on the adaptive process of simple phase vector calculations, the AM/PM distortion can be significantly reduced for various input power. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated for up to 80 % improvements in AM/PM distortions, compared with the distortion of a conventional amplifier. Moreover, by means of an additional envelope-compensation technique, the improvement of the adjacent channel power ratio (ACPR) is presented.

In this paper, we investigate a market equilibrium in multi-channel sharing cognitive radio networks (CRNs): it is assumed that every subchannel is orthogonally licensed to a single primary user (PU), and can be shared with multiple secondary users (SUs). We model this sharing as a spectrum market where PUs offer SUs their subchannels with limiting the interference from SUs; the SUs purchase the right to transmit over the subchannels while observing the interference limits set by the PUs and their budget constraints. The utility function of SU is defined as least achievable transmission rate, and that of PU is given by the net profit. We define a market equilibrium in the context of extended Fisher model, and show that the equilibrium is yielded by solving an optimization problem, Eisenberg-Gale convex program.
In this paper, a frame synchronization structure for the Binary Phase Shift Keying (BPSK) modulation method in underwater acoustic communication was proposed. The proposed frame synchronization structure is largely divided into two. First, the approximate position and frequency offset of the frame are obtained by non-coherent correlation and sliding Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) method. Second, after compensating for the frequency error to the received signal, the exact position of the frame is obtained by coherent correlation method. Maritime experiments were conducted to confirm the performance of the 2-STEP frame synchronization structure. It was showed that the limitations of the non-coherent correlation and sliding FFT method can be verified when the power of the received signal was greatly reduced due to the channel characteristics. As a result, stable frame synchronization could be obtained by compensating for the frequency error and then using the coherent correlation method.
Since Ultra-Short BaseLine (USBL) uses an array with narrow sensor spacing, precise synchronization is required to improve source localization performances. However, in the underwater environment, synchronization errors occur due to relatively strong noise and underwater acoustic channels such as multipath and Doppler, which deteriorates the source localization performances. This paper proposes a covariance-based synchronization compensation method to improve the source localization performances of the underwater USBL systems. The proposed method arranges the received signals through cross-correlation and calculates the covariance of the arranged signals. The synchronization error is related to the phase difference in the covariance. Thus, the phase difference is estimated as the covariance and compensated. Computer simulations demonstrate that the proposed method has better source localization performances than the conventional cross-correlation method.
Recently, the demand of broadband communications such as high-speed internet, HDTV, 3D-HDTV and ATM backbone network has been increased drastically. For transmitting the broad-bandwidth data using wireless network, it is needed to use ka-band frequency. However, the use of this ka-band frequency is seriously affected to the received data performance by rain fading and atmospheric propagation loss at the Ka-band satellite communication link. So, we need adaptive MODEM to endure the degraded performance by channel environment. In this paper, we will present the structure and design of the 155Mbps adaptive Modem adaptively compensated against channel environment. In order to compensate the rain attenuation over the ka-band wireless channel link, the adaptive coding schemes with variable coding rates and the multiple modulation schemes such as trellis coded 8-PSK, QPSK, and BPSK are adopted. And the blind demodulation scheme is proposed to demodulate without Information of modulation mode at the multi-mode demodulator, and the fast phase ambiguity resolving scheme is proposed. The design and simulation results of adaptive Modem by SPW model are provided. This 155Mbps adaptive MODEM was designed and implemented by single ASIC chip with the $0.25\mu{m}$ CMOS standard cell technology and 950 thousand gates.
