A written questionnaire on queries into motivation for participation and internal engagement were developed and tested. The subjects were 1066 students from 4th to 9th grade who had participated in the Youth Science Contest under the auspices of the Korea Science Foundation. Interest and commitment were selected as constructing factors of internal engagement. Through exploratory factor analysis, preference, reward, and social motivation were determined to be the factors affecting the motivation to participate. Boys showed higher internal engagement than girls, and interest and commitment were found to be higher in elementary school students(p<0.01). There was no difference in interest among elementary school students; however, fourth grade students showed lower commitment than other students(p<0.01). Ninth grade students showed the lowest interest and commitment among junior high school students(p<0.01). To explore the causal relationship between internal engagement and factors influence internal engagement, path analysis was used. The selected model illustrated how reward motivation affected commitment directly, and how preference motivation affected interest directly but only commitment indirectly through interest. Reward motivation affected commitment with a standardized direct effect coefficient of 0.17. Preference motivation affected interest with a standardized direct effect coefficient of 0.75 and commitment with a standardized total effect coefficient of 0.63(direct effect; 0.27 and indirect effect; 0.36). In addition, interest affected commitment with a standardized direct effect coefficient of 0.49. Social motivation did not affect interest and commitment and reward motivation did not affect interest.

  • This study was conducted to explore the effect of the type of dashboard on online group discussion activities based on learning analysis. The experimental research was conducted among 51 learners from a university by dividing them into 2 groups. Group A provided participation and interaction dashboard, and group B provided the discussion topics and message type dashboard. First, pre-tests were conducted on attitudes toward computer writing and the level of motivation that could affect online discussion activities. Then the students participated three different topics of online group discussions. The participation and interaction data were automatically collected through the dashboard, and learning outcome data were collected through post-tests. The results showed level of participation in Group B (M=47.56, SD=2.37) that provided discussion topics and message type dashboard was significantly higher than the level of participation in Group A (M=38.13, SD=2.21) that provided participation and interaction dashboard. On the other hand, there were no differences in the level of interaction and learning outcomes. In future studies, we suggest that the dashboard effects based on the learners' characteristics should be carried out because the learners' characteristics may affect the use of the dashboard.

As a result of the analysis, the functionality of the preferred material consisted of movement, comfort, and body temperature maintenance. When purchasing, the factors to consider were extracted such as basic emphasis, emphasis on flaunting, and emphasis on practicality. The improvement requirement was composed of basic function improvement and various function additional factors, and the purchase satisfaction factor was composed of three factors: brand, practicality, design, and functionality. Motives for participation in marine leisure sports were grouped into mania, leisure, and health types. As for the functionality of the preferred material, the mania type and leisure type preferred movement, comfort, and body temperature maintenance functionality over the health type. As for the factors to consider when purchasing, the mania type and leisure type had higher consideration for the factors of basic emphasis, ostentation, and practicality than the health type. In the improvement requirements, both basic function improvement and various function additions had the highest mania type and the lowest health type. In terms of purchase satisfaction factors, practicality and brand were found to have a high leisure type, and functional factors were found to have a high mania type. For the enthusiastic group, it is thought that product development should focus on functionality and additional functions, and health types should be focused on design and utilization.
