  • The purpose of this study is to estimating the possibility of manufacturing radiation shielding sheet by searching for environmentally friendly materials suitable for medical environment of medical radiation shielding. There are many tungsten products which are currently used as shielding materials in place of lead, but there are small problems in the mass production of lightweight shielding sheets due to economical efficiency. To solve these problems, a lightweight, environmentally friendly material with economical efficiency is required. In this study, Barium sulphate and Iodine were proposed. Both materials are already used as contrast medias in radiography, and it is predicted that the shielding effect will be sufficient in a certain region as a shielding material because of the characteristic of absorbing radiation. Therefore, in this study, we used a Monte Carlo simulation to simulate radiation shielding materials. When it is a contrast agent such as Barium sulfate and Iodine, the radiation absorption effect in the high energy region appears greatly, and the effectiveness of the two shielding substance in the energy region of the star with thickness of 120 kVp is also evaluated in the medical radiation imaging region. Simulated estimation results it was possible to estimate the effectiveness of shielding for all two substances. Iodine has higher shielding effect than barium sulfate, 0.05 mm thick appears great effect. Therefore, the Monte Carlo simulation confirms that iodine, which is a radiological contrast agent, is also usable as barium sulfate in the production of radiation shielding sheets.

  • PVC was chosen as a plastic product that can cope with lead, a radiation shielding material that is widely used in medical institutions. In addition to radiation shielding clothing, we want to evaluate whether it can be used as a medical device component and industrial shielding material in low dose areas. Commercial PVC has a density of 3.68 g/㎠ and can be positively expected sufficient shielding effect in certain radiation areas such as material flexibility and economy efficiency, and can be transformed into various forms and used as a lightweight shielding wall. The shielding performance was tested by adjusting the thickness of 5 sheets of 3mm PVC in the range of medical radiation used for clinical examination in medical institutions. Shielding performance against effective energy was evaluated based on tube radiation voltage of medical radiation. The thicker the PVC, the lower the tube voltage and the lower the effective energy, the greater the shielding effect. The shielding effect was 70% at 12mm thickness and 80kVp tube voltage. Therefore, the shielding effect of PVC material has a high dependence of thickness. In the future, continuous research is needed to make thin and light eco-friendly products while improving shielding performance.

  • Rather than causing damage from heat, blast, and radiation of a regular nuclear weapon, recently, it is predicted that North Korea has been inventing high altitude electromagnetic pulse (HEMP) missile in order to incapacitate electronic equipment. HEMP shielding facility is used for military purpose today. Despite the electromagnetic shielding effects from high quality compression plates, problems may include such as the possibility of electromagnetic influx resulting in the welding of the compression plates, and difficulties and high cost of construction. Therefore, in this study, a high electrical conducting material was added to the concrete experimental subject to ensure the shielding effect through electromagnetic waves to for the concrete structure, instead of building a shielding facility separately for the structure. Also, among the experimental subjects, 100 ${\mu}m$ of Iron-Aluminum alloy metal spraying coat was applied to two types with the highest shielding effect, and to two types with the lowest shielding effect. The result of the experiment indicates that experimental subjects added with a high electrical conductivity material did not meet the minimum shielding criteria of MIL-STD-118-125-1 standard, but all the experimental material applied to the metal spraying coating satisfied the minimum shielding criteria. In conclusion, it is considered that 100 µm of Iron-Aluminum alloy metal spraying coat contains high efficiency in the HEMP shielding.

  • Research on the presence or absence of radiation shielding for FDM-type filaments has recently begun to be studied, but filaments with shielding capabilities are not sold in Korea, and not studies yet. Therefore, in this research, we will use HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) as a base material, select bismuth as a reinforcing material to manufacture a composite filament, evaluate the shielding ability, and provide basic data for the development of a radiation shielding composite material using 3D printing.A filament is produced by mixing Bismuth with an effective atomic number 83 with HDPE of PE series and adjusting the content of Bismuth to 20% wt, 30% wt, 40% wt. Compounded filaments were evaluated for their physical properties and shielding capabilities by ASTM evaluation methods. As the bismuth content increases, the density, weight, and tensile strength increase, and the shielding capacity is confirmed to be excellent. As a result of the radiation shielding capacity evaluation, it was confirmed that HDPE (80%) + Bi (20%) showed a shielding rate of 82% at 60 kV and a shielding rate of up to 94% or more at 40% bismuth content. In this study, we confirmed that it was possible to produce a radiation shield that is lighter than the metal particle-containing filaments. Furthermore, that have been shield radiation by using HDPE + Bi filaments, and radiation in the medical and radiation industries. The possibility of using it as a shielding complex was confirmed.

  • A method of making inserts for shaped fields in electron beam therapy on the Mevatron KD 67-7467 Linear Acclerator is introduced. The inserts are made from an alloy called Lipowitz metal. These are designed to fit the inside of the standard Siemens cones. Studies have shown that this method does not adversely affect field flatness. However, if the ratio of shaped field to open field is greater than about 70%, the output dose is significantly changed by the inserts. Because the cone ratios for the fields do not follow the open cone ratio curves on the Mevatron KD 67-7467, we separated the cone ratio suggested by Biggs into two parts, the insert ratio and the cone factor. The dosimetry for these shaped beams has been investigated extensively.

  • The eye lens is known to be radiosensitive organ and catarat can be induced by relatively low dose of radiation. In the treatment of head and neck tumors, shielding blocks are frequently used to minimize dose on sensitive organs. The shielding block, which is made of high atomic number materials (cerrobend), produce significant dose perturbations in megavoltage photon beams. The effects of these perturbations of eye shielding blocks are measured with film and ion chambers for the treatment of head and neck malignancies. Optimum parameters for the treatment are suggested.

  • The effects of shield gas on the structure of methane-air nonpremixed counterflow flames were numerically investigated. The near extinction flame of a low global strain rate 20 $s^{-1}$ of 19% methane diluted by 81% nitrogen by volume and undiluted air was computed. The flame shape, centerline temperature and axial velocity profiles were compared for different velocity of the shield gas and with and without the shield gas. The effects of the velocity of the shield gas were negligible for $V_{S}/V_{F}{\leq}2$ in normal gravity. Under normal gravity conditions, the flame shape and its position with the shield gas were different from those of the flame without the shield gas, whereas no discernible effects of the shield gas along the centerline were observed in zero gravity.

  • The main purpose of this paper is to make a map showing canopy cover by using airborne Lidar data based on region. Watershed algorithm was applied to elevation data to conduct segmentation, and then canopy cover was estimated through the regions extracted. In the process of transforming point data to raster, we solved the problems about overestimation and underestimation by using frequency method. Also, canopy cover map could be produced with various scales by differing level of segmentation and it provides more accurate and precise information than ones of ordinary public forest map.
