What Effect can Simple Hand Tapping Have on the Accuracy and Fluency of Speech Production in Children With and Without Speech Sound Disorders? (단순 손동작 반복이 말소리장애 아동과 일반 아동의 말소리산출의 정확성과 유창성에 미치는 영향)

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of hand tapping on the accuracy and the fluency of speech production in children with speech sound disorder(SSD) and their typically developing peers(TD). Methods : The study subjects were 15 SSD children and 15 TD children aged 4, 5, and 6 years of age. Subjects were asked to give a picture name without hand tapping in the first experimental condition, and with hand tapping in the second experiment condition. Results : The results showed that hand tapping significantly increased disfluency in TD, whereas in SSD. it did not affect the accuracy or fluency of speech production. In addition, TD demonstrated a significant positive correlation with the changes of accuracy and disfluency due to hand tapping, whereas SSD had no correlation. Conclusion : We discussed the possibility that hand tapping could serve as an obstacle distracting attention from SSD and TD, acting as a motor gesture to facilitate phonological processing when facing the difficulty in lexical retrieval for SSD.

Comparison of removal torque between prefabricated and customized abutment screw (기성품과 맞춤형 임플란트 지대주 나사의 풀림 토크 비교)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare the removal torque between prefabricated and customized implant abutment screw. Materials and methods: Three types of implant system (Osstem, Astra, Zimmer) were used. For each system, prefabricated abutment screw (control group) and customized abutment screw (test group) were used to connect the fixture and the abutment (n = 6). Digital torque gauze was used to control the tightening torque and the screws were tightened under each manufacturer's recommendation. 10 minutes after the connection the same tightening torque was applied, and 5 minutes after the second connection, the removal torque was measured. This procedure was repeated 10 times. In the cyclic loading test, 10 minutes after the first connection to the 6 groups (n = 3), the same tightening torque was applied, and a total of 1,000,000 time loading was applied at 30 degree angle to long axis with 50 N load. Repeated measures of ANOVA test (${\alpha}$=.05) was used as statistics to evaluate the effect of repeated loading number on the removal torque. Independent t-test was used to evaluate the difference in removal torque after cyclic loading. Results: The removal torque significantly decreased as the number of loading repetition increased (P<.05). In the 10 time repetition test, there was no significant difference between the prefabricated and customized implant abutment screw of the 3 implant system (P<.05). Also in the cyclic loading test, there was no significant difference between the prefabricated and customized implant abutment screw of the 3 implant system (P<.05). Conclusion: Within the limitation of this study, there was no significant difference in the removal torque between the prefabricated abutment screw and customized abutment screws.

Efficient Determination of Iteration Number for Algebraic Reconstruction Technique in CT (CT의 대수적재구성기법에서 효율적인 반복 횟수 결정)

  • The algebraic reconstruction technique is one of the reconstruction methods in CT and shows good image quality against noise-dominant conditions. The number of iteration is one of the key factors determining the execution time for the algebraic reconstruction technique. However, there are some rules for determining the number of iterations that result in more than a few hundred iterations. Thus, the rules are difficult to apply in practice. In this study, we proposed a method to determine the number of iterations for practical applications. The reconstructed image quality shows slow convergence as the number of iterations increases. Image quality 𝜖 < 0.001 was used to determine the optimal number of iteration. The Shepp-Logan head phantom was used to obtain noise-free projection and projections with noise for 360, 720, and 1440 views were obtained using Geant4 Monte Carlo simulation that has the same geometry dimension as a clinic CT system. Images reconstructed by around 10 iterations within the stop condition showed good quality. The method for determining the iteration number is an efficient way of replacing the best image-quality-based method, which brings over a few hundred iterations.

Analysis of Performance according to LDPC Decoding Algorithms (저밀도 패리티 검사부호의 복호 알고리즘에 따른 성능 비교 분석)

  • LDPC (low density parity check) code shows near Shannon limit performance by iterative decoding based on sum-product algorithm (SPA). Message updating procedure between variable and check nodes in SPA is done by a scheduling method. LDPC code shows different performance according to scheduling schemes. The conventional researches have been shown that the shuffled BP (belief propagation) algorithm shows better performance than the standard BP algorithm although it needs less number of iterations. However the reason is not analyzed clearly. Therefore the reason of difference in performance according to LDPC decoding algorithms is analyzed in this paper. 4 cases according to satisfaction of parity check condition are considered and compared. As results, the difference in the updating procedure in a cycle in the parity check matrix is considered to be the main reason of performance difference.

Assessment of Reproducibility and Repeatability for Color Vision Test (색각검사법의 재현성 및 반복성평가)

  • Purpose: To assess the reproducibility and repeatability for each color vision test method. Methods: The subjects for color vision test were 30 students without congenital color vision deficiency and they major in optometry in a university, Korea. The type of color vision test selected for this study were Hans color vision test, Hans 15 hue test and Lanthony D 15 hue test. The Ishihara test was added for assessment of reliability of inter-tester. Results: All of the subjects were classified into normal at pseudoisochromatic plates, but one subject's result showed mild blue-yellow color deficiency at Hue discrimination. Results of 3 repeated test for subjects and inter-tester examination showed no errors at pseudoisochromatic plates. There were differences in mild errors among repeated test at Hue discrimination, but no differences were found in the results of repeated test to classify color vision deficiency. Conclusion: Each tester had better be more skilled to test even simple color vision test for eliminating the possibility of mild errors. Each subject might just as well be careful in color vision test. It is required to test both method of pseudoisochromatic plates and Hue discrimination in screening test.

A case study on the effect of repeated reading aloud for mathematics textbooks (수학교과서 소리내어 반복읽기 효과에 대한 사례 분석)

  • This study aimed to proposed repeated reading aloud, which combines repetitive reading and reading aloud, as a method for teaching and learning mathematics. We investigated the effect of repeated reading aloud on students' academic achievement and cognitive load, and explored the implications of repeated reading aloud as a method for teaching and learning mathematics. To this end, we conducted a case study involving repeated reading aloud for two units: the limit of a function and the number of cases. The study targeted four 9th-grade students and four 10th-grade students, analyzing how their academic achievement and cognitive load changed. As a result, the eight students showed positive changes in academic achievement and cognitive load as the repeated reading aloud accumulated. When comparing the units, the academic achievement was lower for the limit of function than the number of cases. In terms of cognitive load, students exhibited higher cognitive load in the unit on the limit of function. When compared cognitive load by grade, there was no significant difference after 3rd repeated reading. However, in both units, the academic achievement of four 10th-grade students was higher than that of four 9th-grade students. Nonetheless, the gap narrowed as the reading aloud was repeated.

Helicobacter pylori Infection in Children with Recurrent Abdominal Pain (소아에서 만성 반복성 복통(Recurrent Abdominal Pain)과 Helicobacter pylori 감염과의 연관성에 대한 연구)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between H. pylori infection and recurrent abdominal pain (RAP) in children and to evaluate the effects of eradication therapy on RAP. Methods: From January 1998 to January 2005, 166 children with RAP (61 male, 105 female) aged $10.0{\pm}3.3$ years were included. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopies were performed for all the patients. All H. pylori infected children (n=70) received the eradication therapy and were divided into two groups: Group Ia (n=52); eradicated, Group Ib (n=18); non-eradicated. H. pylori-negative children (n=96) were divided into three groups according to the medication: Group IIa (n=67); no medication, Group IIb (n=13); acid-suppressant, Group IIc (n=16); both acid-suppressant and antibiotics. Questionnaire for symptoms were asked at the first, 6th, 12th, 24th, and 36th months following the treatment (grade 0; completely resolved, grade 1; definitely improved, but there are occasional episodes of mild abdominal pain, grade 2; no change in the frequency and intensity of abdominal pain). Results: In about 90% of H. pylori positive children, RAP improved in the both H. pylori-eradicated and non-eradicated children in a follow-up survey. In about 75% of H. pylori-negative children, RAP also improved among in the three groups of patients regardless of medication. Conclusion: These results suggest that there was no correlations between improvement of RAP and eradication of H. pylori, and between improvement of RAP and medication. Consequently the reassurance that the children with RAP have no serious organic cause was important to improvement of RAP.

A Research on Training Effect of EEG according to Repetitive Movement of a Hand (반복동작에 따른 EEG의 훈련 효과)

  • This study is to find training effect on EEG(Electroencephalography) and EMG(electromyogram) evoked by repetitive movement of a hand. Five university students participated in this study and were asked to perform repetitive movement of right hand for 5 seconds with rest for 10 seconds. They repeated the movement for 48 minutes and for 5 days. EEG and EMG were measured according to every movement. Coherence between EEG and EMG and power spectrum of EEG were analyzed and were tried to observe their changes within a day and between days of the repetitive movement. Training effect according the time of the movement was significantly found in mu and beta frequencies in EEG. However, training effect was not significant between the days of the movement and also, not in coherence between EEG and EMG.

Repeatability of Methane Hydrate Formation (메탄하이드레이트 생성의 반복성에 대한 연구)

  • 천연가스를 대체하며 21세기 신 에너지원으로 기대되고 있는 메탄 하이드레이트가 주목을 받게된 것은 1930년대 시베리아의 화학 플랜트에서 고압의 천연가스 수송용 파이프라인이 막히는 사고가 빈번하게 발생하여 그 원인을 조사한 결과, 파이프 내에서 가스와 물이 결합하여 하이드레이트를 형성하고, 그것이 파이프의 내벽에 부착되어 파이프를 막고 있다는 것으로 밝혀지면서 천연가스 하이드레이트가 주목을 받게 되었다. 또한 메탄 하이드레이트의 경우 46개의 물분자에 8개의 메탄가스 분자가 포획된 구조로, 그 분자식은 $CH_4{\cdot}5.75H_2O$이다. 따라서 메탄가스와 물의 이론적 용량비가 216:1로써, 표준상태에서 $1m^3$의 메탄 하이드레이트는 $172m^3$의 메탄가스와 $0.8m^3$의 물로 분해된다. 만약 이와 같은 특징을 역으로 이용할 경우 메탄을 주성분으로 하는 천연가스를 물에 포집시켜 인공적으로 하이드레이트를 제조할 수 있기 때문에 천연가스 수송 및 저장의 수단으로써 그 중요성이 커지고 있으며, 액화수송보다 18-24%의 비용절감이 이루어진다고 보고하였다. 그러나 인공적으로 메탄 하이드레이트를 제조할 경우 가스 포집율의 예측이 매우 어려운 것으로 알려져 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 동일한 조건에서 메탄 하이드레이트 형성의 반복성 실험을 10회 수행한 결과 과냉도가 클수록 최대최소차이가 줄었고 또한 교반을 시킬 경우도 최대최소차이가 줄어 들었다.

The Selective Effect of Cohesive Devices on Scientific Text Reading and Comprehension (과학텍스트의 읽기 및 이해에 대한 결속장치의 선택적 영향)

  • 본 연구는 결속장치(cohesive devices)가 과학텍스트의 읽기 속도와 내용 이해에 끼치는 영향에 대해 연구하였다. 연구의 목적을 위한 실험을 통해서 먼저, 텍스트의 문단별 읽기 시간을 측정하여 온라인 처리 과정을 검토하였고, 둘째, 회상과 재인 검사를 실시하여 오프라인 상태에서의 이해도를 조사하였다. 이 연구의 재료로 사용된 텍스트는 번개 생성과정에 대한 과학텍스트로서, 반복, 지시사, 정박(anchoring), 인과적 접속사 등의 결속장치를 이용하여 응집성(coherence)의 강도를 높고, 낮게 조작하였다. 실험 결과, 결속장치가 길속장치의 종류와 지엽적 응집성의 강도에 따라 과학텍스트 읽기와 이해에 선택적으로 영향을 끼친다는 것을 발견하였다. 첫째, 인과적 접속사는 읽기 시간에는 영향을 주지 않는 반면, 이해를 촉진했는데, 이 긍정적 효과는 과제의 종류에 따라 다르게 나타났다. 즉, 회상 검사 결과에서는 인과적 접속사가 쓰인 모든 문단에서 유의한 차이가 나타났으나, 재인 검사에서는 유의한 차이가 부분적으로만 나타났다. 둘째, 반복 결속장치는 다른 결속장치와 같이 발생할 경우에만 읽기 시간과 이해를 부분적으로 촉진하는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째. 정박 결속장치의 영향은 읽기와 이해 두 처리 과정에 모두 선택적으로 영향을 준 것으로 나타났다. 인과적 접속사와 함께 쓰인 문단의 경우에는 회상 검사에서만, 반복 결속장치가 함께 쓰인 문단에서는 회상, 재인 검사에서 모두 긍정적 영향을 준 것으로 관찰되었다.
