  • NGN(Next Generation Network) is a communication network which can make use of broadband and QoS-enabled transport technologies. One of the main service issues over NGN is a multimedia service, such as IPTV, using a multicast method. And overlay multicast technology is one of the promising solutions instead of traditional multicast technology which has a few problems, and supports flexibility and scalability for multicast services. Also, the main controversial topic in NGN and overlay multicast is QoS. In the present paper, we designed an agent in each receiver's network, and a manager which is in a source network and which manages the whole multicast network. Both of them are communicating with each other and applying resource policies to their multicast network. This mechanism enables overlay multicast to support QoS, focusing on RACF(Resource and Admission Control Functions) in NGN QoS architecture.

  • This study aims at proposing three prestige indices-closeness prestige, input domain, and proximity prestige- as useful measures for the impact of a particular node in citation networks. It compares these prestige indices with other impact indices as it is still unknown what dimensions of impact these indices actually measure. The prestige indices enable us to distinguish the most prominent actors in a directed network, similar to the centrality indices in undirected networks. Correlation analysis and principal component analysis were conducted on the author citation network to identify the differentiated implications of the three prestige indices from the existing impact indices. We selected simple citation counting, h-index, PageRank, and the three kinds of centrality indices which assume undirected networks as the existing impact measures for comparison with the three prestige indices. The results indicate that these prestige indices demonstrate distinct impact dimension from the other impact indices. The prestige indices reflect indirect impact while the others direct impact.

  • In this paper, an algerian that provisions absolute and proportional differentiation of packet delays is proposed with an objective for enhancing quality of service (QoS) in future packet networks. It features a scheme that compensates the deviation for prediction on the traffic to be arrived continuously It predicts the traffic to be arrived at the beginning of a time slot and measures the actual arrived traffic at the end of the time slot and derives the difference between them. The deviation is utilized to the delay control operation for the next time slot to offset it. As it compensates the prediction error continuously, it shows superior adaptability to the bursty traffic as well as the exponential traffic. It is demonstrated through simulation that the algorithm meets the quantitative delay bounds and shows superiority to the traffic fluctuation in comparison with the conventional non-adaptive mechanism.

  • In this paper, relative service differentiation in JET based optical burst-switched networks with deflection routing is presented. It differs from conventional schemes in that it tries to make the loss rate of high class bursts as low as possible while maintaining the desired proportional ratio between the high class bursts and low class bursts. Strategies applied to it are dynamic wavelength allocation and the preemption which are combined to deflection routing. With dynamic wavelength allocation, the number of wavelengths allocated to high class bursts are dynamically changed. Preemption which gives more preference to high class bursts is also applied to decrease its loss rate. To lower the loss rate, deflection routing is applied for any kind of traffic. With those strategies, the suggested scheme shows desired properties that the loss rate of high class traffic is as lowered as possible. A queueing model for the scheme is developed to approximate loss ratio and the numerical results show that the proposed scheme provisions relative service differentiation.

  • In this paper, sharing based admission control scheme is suggested for both service differentiation and improvement of wavelength utilization efficiency in burst switching networks. To provide service differentiation and high wavelength utilization efficiency, some of the wavelengths on a output link are shared with all classes and the others are used for the highest class exclusively. Markov based analysis is applied to the suggested scheme for the performance analysis and the numerical results are derived. The results are: The performance of lower traffic is more improved by the more number of shared wavelengths in case that the higher traffic or lower traffic is arrived equally or that the input rate of lower traffic is low. Another result is that the sharing effect of wavelengths is a little bit lowered when lower traffic passes the threshold.

  • In this paper, we propose a window based resource reservation scheme to minimize an waste bandwidth due to resource reservation in mobile networks. Specially, this scheme decides a proper timing to reserve resource by using the number of movement, which is provided by the differentiated handoff estimation model, among inner regions. In the previous resource reservation scheme[6], it requests a resource reservation to neighboring cells as soon as a mobile host enters or creates into a cell. But, after a proper time based on the number of movements in the differentiated handoff estimation model passes, the proposed scheme requests a resource reservation to neighboring cells. Because of this reason, it can improve resource utilization on mobile networks. And, this scheme differentiates resource reservation according to a request ratio for resource reservation to each neighboring cell. Also, this scheme improves resource reservation acceptance rate and bandwidth utilization.

  • In this paper, a simplified QoS model of MPLS-based backbone network. Conventional scheme proposed by IETF(IETF schem) is to embed a DiffServ model in MPLS network. However, this approach results in overall upgrade of MPLS system and so it is difficult to deploy this approach. Our proposed model, however, uses a Vidual Link which is a set of Label Switched Path(LSP) connected from an Ingress Label Edge Router(LER) to an Egress LER. In this model, Per-Hop-Behavior(PHB) is implemented only at each LSP in ingress LER and Core Label Switch Routers(LSRs) just guarantee each LSP's bandwidth, not service. This bandwidth guarantee service is fully provided by legacy MPLS model. Also we propose flow allocation mechanism and the flow distribution among LSPs of the virtual link by the flow according to the network status. To evaluate the simplified approach, the characteristics of the approach are compared logically with these of IETF's one through simulations.
