Comparision of the Residue Property of Insecticide Bifenthrin and Chlorfenapyr in Green Onion and Scallion under Greenhouse Condition (시설재배 쪽파와 부추에서 살충제 Bifenthrin과 Chlorfenapyr의 잔류특성 비교)

  • In order to use in the classification of minor crop for the mutual application of safe use guideline, it was compared a green onion with a scallion on the residue property of insecticide bifenthrin and chlorfenapyr. After pesticides were applied 2 times with 1 week interval in that day of harvest, 3 days, 7 days, 10 days and 14 days before harvest, vegetables were harvested, and the residue of pesticides was investigated. Base on the residue in that day of harvest, the deposit of spray solution in vegetables was calculated. The deposit of spray solution of bifenthrin was 123.0 mL/kg in a green onion, and 74 mL/kg in a scallion. In case of chlorfenapyr, it was calculated 126.5 mL/kg in a green onion, and 70.0 mL/kg in a scallion. When the amount of the deposit of both pesticides was compared a green onion with a scallion, it was higher in a green onion. On the other hand, it was estimated the predicted dissipation curve of pesticides in a green onion and a scallion during cultivation. The dissipation curve of bifenthrin was y = 1.0334 $e^{-0.0602x}$ ($R^2$= 0.8606) in a green onion, and y = 0.7693 $e^{-0.1823x}$ ($R^2$= 0.9756) in a scallion. In case of chlorfenapyr, it was y = 2.2603 $e^{-0.0519x}$ ($R^2$= 0.9043) in a green onion, and y = 1.2940 $e^{-0.1051x}$ ($R^2$ = 0.9782) in a scallion. The half-life of bifenthrin was 11.51 days in a green onion, and 3.80 days in a scallion, respectively. Also, it was estimated half-life in chlorfenapyr, it was 13.35 days in a green onion, and 6.59 days in a scallion, respectively. The half-life of both pesticides in a green onion was longer than in a scallion. When both vegetables were compared with the residue property, the deposit of spray solution and half-life of dissipation in a green onion were more than those in a scallion.

Physicochemical Characteristics of Native Korean Allium wakegi Araki according to Different Seed Bulb Origins (종구산지에 따른 한국산 쪽파(Allium wakegi Araki)의 이화학적 특성)

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the physicochemical characteristics of native Korean Allium wakegi Araki samples, which were grown from seven local seed bulbs(Yesan, Muan, Anmyon-do, Deokjeok-do, Jeju-do, Yecheon, and China) to produce high quality native Korean Allium wakegi Araki. For the proximate composition of samples, moisture contents were in the range of 90.69~92.43%. The crude protein content of the Jeju-do sample was highest compared to the other samples. However, there were no significant differences in total sugar contents between samples. The seed bulb origin did not affect the hardness of the stem part, but was high for the leaves of the Yesan sample compared to the other samples. The results for anti-oxidative activity were as follows: Yesan(2.30 mg/mL) > China(2.51 mg/mL) > Muan (2.56 mg/mL) > Yecheon(2.74 mg/mL) > Jeju-do(2.85 mg/mL) > Anmyon-do(2.87 mg/mL) > Deokjeok-do(3.18 mg/mL). In terms of mineral and amino acid contents, the Yesan sample showed the highest levels, respectively, compared with the other samples. Food values such as contents of total phenolics and pyruvic acid were highest in the Jeju-do sample. These results show that the physicochemical characteristics of Allium wakegi Araki were significantly different according to different seed bulb origins.

  • Growth status, plant nutrition and soil chemical properties were investigated for lettuce, spring onion and red pepper grown under vinyl house near Yesan. Low Ca and Mg with high K in soil resulted in Ca deficiency with slight Mg insufficiency in Korean lettuce. In this soil pH was low and EC was extremely low. Spring onion(Allium wakegi) can not emerge or showed poor growth(50%) due to high EC(above 0.5m mho/cm) and low pH (below 6.2). Red pepper plant showed wilt disease probably due to low soil pH.

Economic Analysis of Chives for Packaging (쪽파 포장을 위한 경제성 고찰)

  • Economic feasibility was analyzed for packaging of chives, which are currently distributed without packaging. The additional revenue from packaging of chives was estimated to be 3,471 million won in summer season (May to September in Korea) and 3,083 million won in winter season (October to April). But, the additional cost due to packaging was estimated to be 1,926 million won in summer season and 1,254 million won in Winter season. Thus, net profits were estimated to be 1,545 million won and 1,829 million won respectively. In terms of unit (1.4 kg), the net profit with packaged distribution estimated to be 247.9 won/unit in summer season and 226.5 won/unit in winter season, respectively. therefore, total profit through packaging was estimated to be 2,799 million won per year.

Leaf Feeding Insects of Welsh Onion and Shallot, and Their Species Abundance Patterns (대파 및 쪽파 잎기생 해충상과 종 빈도 분포형)

  • Leaf feeding insect species of welsh onion and shallot were surveyed, and their species abundances were analyzed by fitness test for lognomal disstribution. A total of 13 and 6 species were identified on welsh onion and shallot, respectively. The dominant species on welsh onion were Thrips tabacid, Acrolepiopsis sapporensis, Spodoptera exigua, and Liriomyza chinensis. Thrips tabacid was also identified as the major species on the shallot. The community dominance was high in welsh onion and shallot observed on 12 October, Suwon. The species abundance patterns of the two communities were well described by lognormal distribution(P> 0.50).

  • The major volatiles from Allium species were found to be sulfide compounds and the ratio of sulfide to volatiles was 66.1% in garlic, 66.1% in scallion, 62.3% in green onion, 39.2% in onion, and 4.2% in chive. Trace of cyclooctasulfur was found to be present among the volatiles. The most oviposition of 17.2% occurred at diallyl sulfide and the least of 0.8% at acetylthiophene whereas the most oviposition of 43.3% occurred at ethyl alcohol if concentration was 100%. Among the organic solvents used for dilution, ethyl alcohol received the highest 52.5% of oviposition and ether the lowest of 5.9%. Furfuryl mercaptan which is also one of the volatiles, received 46.9% of oviposition. For oviposition site, D. antiqua preferred sulfides at near 1%, ethyl alcohol at high, and other volatiles at various concentrations. At 100% concentration, most volatiles except dimethyl disulfide and ethyl alcohol received less oviposition than the control which was watered sand with no volatiles added.

  • Four crop plants, such as green onion(Allium ascalonicum L.), radish(Raphanus sativus L.), potato(Solanum tubersum L.) and chinese cabbage(Brassica pekinensis Rupr), were grown in greenhouses to determine the accumulations of Cd and Zn absorbed by the plants grown on soils treated with municipal sewage sludge of different levels of 0, 22.5, 45.0 and 90.0 ton $ha^{-1}$ as soil dry weight. The result was analyzed to be comparable to the heavy metal content in the plant tissues among the crop species and the statistical characteristics were investigated to determin a possible relationship between causes of increased contents of Cd and Zn in plants and in soils. The results were as follows : 1. The Cd and Zn content in experimental crop plants increased with increase in quantity of treatment sludge. 2. The Cd and Zn content in roots of all experimental plants increased with sludge treatment amount in soil, in the following order : green onion>potato>chinese cabbage>radish. 3. The Cd content in leaves of crop plants were high in this order : green onion>radish>potato>chinese cabbage, and the Zn content in leaves of crop plants was high in this order. : potato>radish>chinese cabbage>green onion. 4. Concentrations of Cd in potato tubers, radish roots and chinese cabbage leaves ranged from 0.03 to 0.12 ppm. 5. Concentrations of Cd and Zn in plant tissues grown in sludge treated soil of 90.0 ton $ha^{-1}$ were 1.2 to 10 times and 0.4 to 2.3 times higher as compared with those absorbed from sludge-free soil, respectively. 6. The accumulation rates of Cd and Zn in sludge-treated plant tissue were almost constant except for green onion roots.

Occurrence of White Rot on Alliaceous Vegetable Crops (백합과 채소작물에서의 흑색썩음균핵병 발생)

  • 1995년 4월, 국내 백합과 채소작물 4개 재배지역에서 흑백썩음균핵병 발생을 조사하였다. 이 병은 마늘에서 최고 85%까지 가장 심하게 발생하였으며, 파에서는 매우 적게 발생하였다. 쪽파와 양파에서는 흑색썩음균핵병이 국내에서는 처음으로 발견되었으며, 발생율은 각각 최고 10%와 30%에 이르렀다. 이 병의 원인균은 배양적 및 형태적 특성에 E라 Sclerotium cepivorum Berk로 동정되었다. 병원성검정 결과, 이 균은 상기한 4종의 백합과 채소작물에 병원성을 나타냈다.
